EXHIBITIONS BOAZ VAADIA: SCULPTURE
MAY 1 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2016
Boaz Vaadia: Sculpture will feature the work of the Israeli-born New York artist who creates figurative compositions by stacking layers of sedimentary stone, capturing in the artist’s words the “pause in the movement.” With more than 100 sculptures on display in the Museum, Domestic Arts Building Mezzanine, and outdoors, this exhibition will encompass the depth of Vaadia’s works, including some rarely seen early works and some recent sculptures cast in bronze. Sponsored by the Quakerbridge Mall, a Simon Mall, and The Consulate General of Israel in New York.

PAUL HENRY RAMIREZ: RATTLE
FEBRUARY 27, 2016 – JANUARY 8, 2017
The West Gallery will feature RATTLE, a site-specific installation created by Paul Henry Ramirez. Through layers of direct painting, applied canvases, sound, and other elements Ramirez will transform the gallery into a whimsical fantasy of color and energy, playing with and against the architecture of the space, creating a sculpted environment where the viewer experiences the installation on multiple sensory levels. Sponsored in part by Bank of America

NIKKI ROSATO: INBOUND
MAY 1 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2016
This season, the Domestic Arts Building lower level features two exhibitions—Ayami Aoyama: Silence and Nikki Rosato: Inbound. Aoyama is a NJ-based artist who works with stone, embracing the spiritual nature of the material as she carves sculpture that is connected to the natural world. Sponsored in part by the Brooke Barrie Art Fund
4
In Inbound, Nikki Rosato creates figurative works using road maps, cutting away all the land masses, leaving linear forms created from the leftover roads and waterways as a metaphor for personal connections and experiences. Rosato’s use of volumetric negative space forms a spatial counterpoint to the fluid solidity of Ayami Aoyama’s Silence.
EDUCATION GALLERY INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH: A BIG READ MURAL PROJECT MAY 13 – JULY 10
This spring, as part of a National Endowment for the Arts funded Big Read project centered on the book Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea, GFS and the Hamilton Township Public Schools partnered to engage students across grade levels in a project that brought literature and the visual arts together. Come view the mural created by these students and teaching artist Karina Raude, and witness a celebration and exploration of the history of Latin American muralism, and themes including identity, family, and community.
COMBAT PAPER PROJECT
AUGUST 13 – OCTOBER 2
This exhibition features powerful works on paper created at workshops organized by Combat Paper NJ, an organization which helps veterans express their complex experiences through art-making and the language of papermaking. Combat Paper NJ’s goal is to build and strengthen the veteran and non-veteran community by changing the culture of the “silent veteran,” transforming the veteran into a storyteller, the nonveteran into a witness.
COMING THIS FALL! MEMBERS’ MUSINGS Don’t miss the seventh annual juried exhibition exclusively featuring artwork by members of GFS. In addition to supporting the arts, many GFS members are gifted artists themselves. This exhibition showcases the diversity of our membership through these varied artistic creations and unique inspirations. Please check our website after June 15th for information on how to submit your work for this exhibition!

In New York, she rubbed elbows with luminaries like Andy Warhol. She has exhibited in numerous solo shows across New York and Connecticut. LABYRINTH
THURSDAY, JULY 7 (RAIN DATE: JULY 14)
Produced by George Lucas and directed by Jim Henson, this gothic fantasy pits living and breathing actors against a motley collection of Muppet monsters. A selfish 16-year old girl (Jennifer Connelly) is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King (David Bowie). Featuring music by Bowie and Trevor Jones, it’ll be a night to remember!
Directed by Rob Reiner, the story is a classic tale of love and adventure as the beautiful Buttercup (Robin Wright) is kidnapped, held against her will in order to marry an odious prince, and Westley (Cary Elwes)—her childhood beau, now returned as the Dread Pirate Roberts—attempts to rescue her, meeting a smorgasboard of unforgettable characters in his quest. With cameos by Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal, and Christopher Guest—relive this remarkable love story.

SHA’AR
AVI WISNIA
“Sha’ar” is the Hebrew word for “gate.”The musical project Sha’ar was conceived as a gateway to understanding the multicultural influences on Israeli society through an exploration of the life and music of the late Israeli composer, Yedidia Admon. Sha’ar’s group members bring their own mix of cultures (Israeli, Argentine, and American) and distinct musical identities to Admon’s music, adding electric instrumentation and updated arrangements that give Admon’s music a contemporary spin.
Grounds For Sculpture welcomes Avi Wisnia, with his eclectic mix of refreshingly original songs and a dynamic ensemble of talented musicians. The award-winning songwriter finds inspiration in Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950’s west-coast jazz and contemporary pop, captivating audiences around the world with his clever lyrics, smooth vocals and deft piano skills. To find out more about this artist, visit aviwisnia.com.

THE POWER OF NON-CASH GIFTS FRIDAY, MAY 6, 8:30–10:30am
There are meaningful tax benefits to your giving—and not just in the form of a charitable deduction on your income taxes! Join us to talk about the power of non-cash gifts. We’ll discuss what happens when you make a gift of securities, for example, stock or mutual funds, and we’ll touch on gifts of property, including cars, art, and real estate. This conversation will equip you to have a discussion about your charitable objectives with your tax and legal advisors, and will illustrate opportunities to turn appreciated assets of all kinds into tax-wise contributions. An optional guided tour of artist Paul Henry Ramirez’s 4,000 square foot new site-specific installation, RATTLE, will be offered after the talk.
GIVING FOR A LIFETIME: WHAT ORDINARY PEOPLE CAN LEARN FROM THE CHAN ZUCKERBERG INITIATIVE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 8:30–10:30am
“We—the current generation—have a moral responsibility to make the world a better place for future generations, we hope others will join us in committing to do our small part to make this happen.” - Dr. Priscilla Chan, wife of social-media pioneer, Mark Zuckerberg. In December 2015, Dr. Chan and Mark Zuckerberg pledged 99 percent of their Facebook holdings to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a limited-liability company that will invest in for-profit companies, advocacy work, and non-profit groups. They’re in their 30s, and so they have many decades of learning and giving ahead of them. Join us to discuss how you might choose long-term giving themes and lessons learned from other long-term philanthropists (including the Greatest Generation, an unusually generous group).

GIVING WITH YOUR CHILREN: RAISING GENEROUS CHILDREN
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 8:30–10:30am

Families give together for many reasons: to transmit values from one generation to another, to experience joy together, to pass on life lessons or financial concepts. Do you have a reason to give with your family? If so, please join us in an informal setting as we talk about giving together and making an impact on the community. We’ll try out tools that you can use with both children and adults, discuss “family mission statements,” and share some conversation-starters. This workshop is especially effective if you bring a family member – a parent, an older child, a spouse, or sibling.
