WHAT’S HOT THIS SEASON AT GFS An Evening with Susan Orlean

Monday, October 22, 7:30 PM. $35 General Admission, includes park admission and a signed edition of The Library Book In partnership with the Princeton Public Library, we look forward to welcoming this acclaimed author to GFS. Orlean’s most recent novel, The Library Book, is being released this fall. A limited number of tickets for students and seniors will be available for $30. Tickets will be on sale beginning September 1st at 9am.

Common Threads coming this winter!

Join us for this series designed to provide dynamic opportunities to explore, discuss, and reflect upon the complex questions and issues facing our community today. Common Threads programs will include conversations, workshops, performances, and events, while creating a space where area artists, educators, and community members interested in positively impacting the world we share can come together, exchange knowledge and ideas, and engage in new experiences. Jersey Cares Coat Drive

Mid-November – Mid-December, 1 – 4 PM For the 6th consecutive year, Grounds For Sculpture will participate in the Jersey Cares Coat Drive by serving as a collection site for new and lightly used warm coats. These coats find new homes with families in need in our community. In appreciation, guests who donate a coat at GFS will receive one free “anytime” admission pass for a future visit.

Whether you’re planning to visit weeks ahead or same day, purchase tickets online to expedite your entry to the arts! Members, Library Pass Holders, and Anytime Pass Holders do not need to reserve tickets in advance except on special event days.

Grounds For Sculpture is open year-round and changes dramatically with each season. Visit the grounds this winter to experience the majestic, snow-covered landscape or warm up indoors with special exhibitions and programs. Admission between December 1 – March 31 is discounted when you buy online at groundsforsculpture.org.

ACCESSIBILITY

GFS is committed to offering accessible facilities and programs. Free cart tours are available on our Access-Mobile for guests with mobility challenges 11am – 3:30pm. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 609.586.0616. Scooters and wheelchairs can be rented in the Welcome Center for a fee (limited availability). Visit groundsforsculpture.org for more information about accessibility features including assisted-listening devices and Touch Tours for guests with visual impairments.

EXHIBITIONS Masayuki Koorida: Sculpture

through March 17, 2019 The first major US exhibition by this Japanese artist. Often inspired by forms found in nature, the exhibition includes works meticulously carved in stone, some of which took up to two years to complete, as well as smaller works in stainless steel, acrylic, and a series of graphite drawings. Location: Museum Building and Outdoors

Michael Rees: Synthetic Cells

through July 14, 2019 Since the advent of the internet age, Michael Rees has been redefining objects by combining digital technology and innovative materials to engage the viewer. Hidden within Synthetic Cells is Para (Site), a virtual exhibition curated by Ed Winklemen and Murat Orozbekov of The Moving Image, which reveals the works of Rees and several other artists in a “collision of utopias.” Location: West Gallery

James Carl: oof

through January 5, 2020 Canadian artist James Carl makes his first major debut in the United States with two parallel exhibitions. Inspired by the egg carton, oof is a monumentally scaled wall relief constructed from cardboard, each piece carefully cut, assembled, and mounted to the 80-foot wall. Location: East Gallery

James Carl: woof

through March 17, 2019 woof, which derives its name from the process of weaving, features work from James Carl’s Jalousie series. Woven from venetian blinds, these sculptures focus on the artist’s decades-long exploration of volume, form, and cultural archeology. Location: Domestic Arts Building

That’s Worth Celebrating: The Life and Work of the Johnson Family

On View Now Learn more about the works of Seward Johnson and the Johnson family’s passions, their belief in the spirit of innovation, and the power of community. This exhibition provides a deeper understanding of the founder’s vision for The Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture and how that vision shaped Grounds For Sculpture’s early years. Curated by Lynn DeClemente Losavio, Collection Manager of The Seward Johnson Atelier. Location: Cecelia Joyce and Seward Johnson Gallery
