OUTDOOR EXHIBITION

Grounds For Sculpture announces the opening of the new seven-acre

wildflower meadow with its first-ever outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring the majestic creations of internationally acclaimed artist Steve Tobin.

AERIALROOTS Steve Tobin Opens Saturday September 17 Runs through Summer 2012

Renowned for his prodigious outpouring of work in a variety of sculptural media, Steve Tobin is famed for casting the uprooted tree that protected St. Paul’s chapel near “Ground Zero” where so many first responders on and after 9/11 took refuge and found solace. The inspiration for Tobin’s SteelRoots sculptures originates from that profound first casting, but have morphed into something entirely new and original.

Steve Tobin, Steel Roots, 154 x 180 x 198 inches, Courtesy of the Artist

EXHIBITIONS

Made of massive rolled and bent steel pipes, these works range from human-scale shapes that seem to dance across the ground to massive structures soaring gracefully through space, almost mystical in their cryptic calligraphy and stark shadows. Now 10 years after the intense sorrow that gave birth to an artistic idea, Tobin presents us with a dramatic interplay of art and nature that transforms our new meadows and groves into a magical landscape. They invite you to touch them, stroll through them, gaze upon them and fall under their spell as they heighten your perception of earth, sky and humanity. Aerial Roots will span four seasons so visitors may return to marvel in how they seem to change with the light, weather, and foliage.
