ABOUT PROGRESS Progress is a part of ‘Building Better Opportunities’, a programme funded by the European Social Fund and the Big Lottery Fund that is designed to support young people across Coventry and Warwickshire to progress into employment, an apprenticeship or training or to re-engage with education. Through tailored, one-to-one support, the programme aims to increase the confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing of those enrolled, boosting social and personal skills as well as employability. Young people will work with a dedicated Progress Coach – an experienced youth work professional – who will encourage them to set positive goals, inspire a positive work attitude, and help them navigate their own personal path towards employment. With up to 12 months of dedicated, personalised support, Progress is aimed at those furthest away from getting into work, and who need a bit more support to build their confidence and skills. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Progress is open to young people aged 15-19 and up to 24 for those in or leaving care or with disabilities. The young person must have the right to work in the UK and be NEET (not in education, employment or training) or at risk of becoming NEET.
About Progress 5
THE PROGRESS PARTNERSHIP Progress is delivered through a partnership that brings together leading youth and employment charities and organisations specialising in supporting young people with complex needs with colleges and training providers to maximise the impact of the programme. Young people from all backgrounds aged 15-19 (and up to 24 for those in or leaving care) will have access to one-to-one coaching and specialist support from our diverse, expert partnership, co-ordinated by Groundwork UK. The partnership is comprised of: • Coventry Citizens Advice • Coventry City Council • Groundwork UK • Groundwork West Midlands • Heart of England Mencap • Hereward College • Innovating Minds CIC • Motorvate UK • Positive Youth Foundation
• Targeted Support for Young People (Warwickshire County Council) • Team SpringBoard • The Learn2 Group • Valley House • Values Education For Life • Voluntary Action Coventry • Young People First (formerly Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs)
TYPES OF PARTNER Progress partners will provide three levels of support: Up to 12 months Support: End-to-End Partners are responsible for the core delivery of the programme, and will offer support to young people for up to 12 months, from recruiting eligible and suitable young people, referring into specialist support, and finally into sustained onward progression.
6 The Progress Partnership
Up to 6 months Support: Programme Partners will also support young people from recruitment through to sustained onward progression, but with a shorter, more structured programme of specific activity for up to 6 months. In addition to the core programme of Coaching Support, Specialist Partners will support the work of the End-to-End and Programme Partners by offering a range of services and activities to deliver more tailored interventions to suit young people’s specific needs.

VALUES EDUCATION FOR LIFE Initially each young person’s cognitive and emotional needs will be assessed through the use of a small battery of tests that will evaluate the current stage/level of development within the areas of reasoning and emotional literacy. This will provide some specific diagnostic assessment of areas of weakness which may form barriers to social inclusion, including the world of ‘work’. Each young person will work through a twelve session programme aimed at developing identified areas of weakness. The programme specifically supports areas of human cognitive and affective development which includes Empathy, Motivation, Self-awareness, Self-Regulation, Social Skills, Affiliation, Property, Contract, Law, Life, and Justice.
