PARTNERING WITH STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
CONNECT WITH US Physical Learning Center (PLC) (724) 458-3371 career@gcc.edu gcc.joinhandshake.com @gcccareerservices
The Career Services Office (CSO) invites student professional & academic groups to partner with us! We know that student professional & academic organizations are often interested in connecting with employers and promoting professional development among their members. A partnership with the CSO can benefit student organizations by creating special connections with career coaches, employers, alumni and other professionals through workshops and presentations, along with providing information and resources on CSO services and events. Check out the following partnership options to get your group involved with the CSO!
PARTNERSHIP OPTIONS
INVITE A CSO SPEAKER!
We welcome you to invite a CSO staff member or student Career Ambassador to your meetings to present on various career-related topics or to provide a quick overview of our office (beginning in October after Career Fair). We are also able to provide customized, field-specific content for your organization. For presentation requests, please provide at least two weeks’ notice and if possible, we suggest timeframes of 11:00am1:00pm (a “lunch & learn” format) or afternoon sessions between 2:00-5:00pm.
PARTICIPATE IN SCHEDULED EVENTS!
Consider inviting your organization to one of the CSO’s scheduled events which can be viewed on Handshake (“Events”) or on our myGCC calendar. These events provide great opportunities for your members to engage in professional development.
PROMOTE CAREER RESOURCES!
The CSO is happy to share helpful career resources with your group to help members research career paths related to their major and industries of interest. Examples include PathwayU (self-assessments and career/industry exploration), What Can I Do With This Major?, Big Interview (virtual interviewing platform which includes industry-specific questions), CareerShift (job/internship search platform), and alumni resources (including the Alumni Directory) to research/connect with GCC alumni in fields of interest. NOTE: When using the "advanced search" feature on the Alumni Directory, you can even search for GCC alumni by student activities/groups!
TALK UP HANDSHAKE!
Handshake (gcc.joinhandshake.com) is the CSO’s online career management system – our hub for everything we do. On the platform, students can access resources (including career guides), jobs/internships with thousands of employers all across the country, on-campus/online interview schedules, events and more. *TIP: For students to maximize their experience using Handshake, we recommend that students complete their “Career Interests” (under their name) to receive more customized/tailored content toward their career interests/goals.
CONNECT WITH ALUMNI & EMPLOYERS!
The CSO is happy to help connect our student organizations with various professionals with whom we’re connected to help you identify speakers and presenters for your events and meetings.
HIGHLIGHT YOUR INTERNS!
Internship panels featuring different students from your organization is a great program idea to get your members learning about internship options. The CSO surveys students every year to learn about students participating in internships. Let us know if you need assistance identifying interesting internships from your field/discipline.
