About Groves Summer Programs
Groves Summer Programs are designed specifically for students entering grades 2-8 with dyslexia, ADHD, and other language-based learning challenges. Our programs offer in-person, expert, individualized instruction. We will empower your student to prepare for the upcoming academic year, equipping them with the tools they need for a strong and successful start to school in the fall.
We offer academic programs that provide a nurturing, fun, and transformative experience to help children gain confidence. For many students, participating in Groves Summer Programs is their first positive academic experience. They begin to feel confident, bright, and capable and may develop a completely different outlook on school.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This summer we are excited to partner with Benilde-St. Margaret’s again! Due to construction at Groves, the 2025 Summer Programs will be held at their campus, 2501 MN-100, St. Louis Park, MN 55416.
Summer Programs Students
Our programs are designed for students who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and other language-based learning disabilities. Most students have average to above-average intelligence with a discrepancy between aptitude and achievement in the classroom. We recognize that each student is unique, and we carefully review each student’s application to ensure that admitted students will experience success.
Academic Program
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 2-8
Turning academic potential into achievement.
The 4-week academic program for students entering grades 2-8 provides small class sizes of 6-8 students grouped according to age, reading, writing, and math abilities.
STUDENTS IN THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM attend reading, writing, and math classes. In each subject, care is taken to begin at a level where students can experience success before confidently moving on to more advanced skills.
Teachers combine their experience and expertise with care and understanding, using a diagnosticprescriptive approach to continually assess and address individual needs. A final progress report, including recommendations, is sent following the conclusion of the program.

Writing and Executive Function Program
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 6-8
July 7 - August 1
Organized Minds, Better Writers.
Experience a unique summer course that takes your student on a writing and executive function journey.
This course provides a roadmap to writing proficiency and organization by focusing on executive function strategies and applying them to help students become more capable and independent writers.
A portion of the class focuses on executive functioning skills using a combination of methods and strategies. Another portion of the class consists of reading a novel and writing in response to that novel. All of the executive function skills that students learn about are applied to their writing. The writing portion of the course focuses on sentence and paragraph-level writing as well as pre-writing and editing/revising practices using The Writing Revolution® curriculum.
Fun activities are built in to practice executive function skills including growth mindset, sustained attention, planning, organization, time management, flexibility, and metacognition.
A best-fit student for this class has functional reading skills, a need for executive functioning strategies, and specific support in writing. This is a stand-alone offering that cannot be paired with the Grades 2-8 Academic Program.
Please note: If your student has already taken this course, we do not recommend taking it again.

We enroll 271 students in grades 1-12, with an average class size of eight. GROVES LITERACY PARTNERSHIPS
The vision of Groves Learning Organization is to redefine the way our nation is taught, one student, one teacher, and one school at a time. Literacy Partnerships through GLO enable us to share our evidence-based teaching methods from our school to advance literacy instruction with other teachers and schools in the community. We work with teachers in partner schools to ensure all students receive literacy instruction based on the science of reading.
For more information about teacher literacy training or establishing a literacy partnership for your organization, please contact Matthew Brandt, GLP Director of Partnership Development, at brandtm@groveslearning.org.
“ The Summer Program was fantastic. My son never once complained (odd for him) about going to school and most days he’d come home talking about what he learned or something that happened in class. When we reviewed all of the papers he brought home – he was so proud of the work he did! I was really impressed at the amount of information that was covered in 4 weeks! ”

Every student is a priority

4 out of 5 students improved or maintained their sight word recognition skills.
Students increased their decoding score by an average of 6 words per minute over the four-week program.
7 out of 10 students showed improvements in reading comprehension scores from the first to the last week.
