COMMUNITY

HOME OF MAN’S BEST FRIEND

Old Drum Memorial, downtown Warrensburg, erected 1958

Warrensburg is home to Old Drum, a dog whose death became the subject of an 1870 Missouri Supreme Court case. The delivery of a famous speech as the closing argument to the case known as the ‘Eulogy to Old Drum’ was where the phrase ‘Man’s Best Friend’ was coined. 150 years later, Warrensburg remains dedicated to the four‐legged friends with several pet friendly restaurants, the city maintained Old Drum’s Best Friends Dog Park, dog watering sta ons throughout downtown, and even an annual Old Drum Dog fes val and parade.
