SHARING SPACE Apartment Complex Otto Busses Vej
05
Located on Otto Busses vej in a central part of Copenhagen, the site makes an industiral statement with old railway workshops and garages. By adding a new function to the site (housing) a new architectural form also makes sense. Taking into account the contextual conditions such as materials, dimensions and typology, the new rythm of the building enables a new type of life on site.
A
In order to build and live in a society facing problems of overpopulation we need to reconsider the way we share space. The definitions of private and public space should be questionned and reinvented so we can build in a more responsible way. This project aims to explore the balance of private/public in an apartment building complex.
B
GROUND FLOOR PLAN OF TWO BUILDINGS
06
THE MAIN CONCEPT of the plan is to challange B
the convetional way to meet your neighbour. The building is connected through a long central staircase hall. This is where you enter the apartment building and your individual apartments. Its has two main staircases and two elevators. In addition to connecting horisontal and vertical movement, the staircase hall serves to offer social areas for eating, reading and relaxing with your neighbours. On each side of the hall there are two blocks. The northern block is elevated from the ground floor, creating an outdoor space for bicycle parking and other activities. One apartment unit stretches from the south block, through the staircase hall and into the north block. Entering from the public staircase hall into the apartment offers a transistion into a little less public space. Still a social area, on the first floor of the units there is a kitchen/dining area and balcony. A more private area is reached through the stairs to the 2nd floor inside the aparments. A glass alleyway connects the south block with the north. This is another opportunity to see your neighbours through the tinted glass. Further into the 2nd floor is a bathroom, bedroom and balcony. The further in you get the more private a space is. On the third floor of the apartment is a larger bedroom and closet. The slight angle of exterior and interior walls allows for light to reach far into the space. The staircase hall allows for an interesting mix of direct and inderect light throughout the property.

CASE STUDY Visualisations of Skaparbyn A study of Ralph Erskines Skaparbyn. Analysing the wooden structure and reconstucting it in Rhino. After a deeper understanding of the architectural components the files were edited and rendered in 3DS MAX. Special attention was paid to lighting components and natural lighting. Finnishing touches were made in Photoshop.

MENDING THE EDGE A Bath and Sauna By the Sea KALASADAM, Tallin, Estland SITEPLAN 1:500 Emma Grynge
The site is located in an old fishing harbour (Kalasadam) in Tallin, Estonia. The industrial charactaristics talk of a restricted area, unaccessable to the public. Due to the central location the potential of a vivid city waterfront is huge. The aim of this project is to provide a connection from the city to a bath and sauna by the sea. It does so by reinforcing the eroded edge of the harbour, contributing with a wooden landscape to sit and walk on. At the far end of the edge the bath and sauna rises up from the landscape. Creating a sort of hill structure in which to enter from the top. The view from the top of this structure opens up to the baltic sea.

the edge. The final point of the wooden landscape. Here people can stop to look at the view and either turn around again or continue down into the Café section and further down into the sauna and bath.
15
On the second floor one is greeted by a Café area with public bathrooms and a small kitchen. The space is a little more private than the top floor and shelters from the ocean winds. The ong wooden windows frame views of the open sea north and harbour east. PLAN ( Etage 2) 1:50 Kalasadam, Tallin Emma Grynge
A more intimate experience starts with the stairs from the Café leading down to the first floor. This is the dressing rooms and relaxation area. An outdoors balcony to the west and a more private relaxing room to the east. Before entering the sauna and eventually out in the water. PLAN ( Etage 3 og 4) 1:50

Frank Gherys Santa Monica Residence A analysis of the residence to and by Frank Ghery. The difference in material use and the destructive way of transforming an old building into a new piece of architecture. A section of the building was chosen to represent the attributes above. The section was realized in a 1:1 model wich also helped in developing the set of drawings.

A project with a focus on two main areas. The first a study of methods on how to add to and transform an existing building. The new addition replicates the rytm in the construction of the old building whilst still defining new spaces within. The second a focus on horisontal vs. vertical movement. The plan is defined by the big staircase running through the old and new building. The stairs define a new space everytime they turn aswell as the positioning of windows and views. Being such a central part of this project the stairs also end up as a piece of furniture upon which to sit and read or study.
