The pavilion is located at Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan near Tokyo International Exhibition Center. There, it is held the annual Tokyo International Anime Fair. The pavilion can be used as an exhibition area for the festival.

The design was inspired by a mythical creature “The nine-tailed fox”, a fox with nine tails. Every supporting part of the pavilion represents one of the fox’s tails. This creature is found in Japanese mythology and folklore, and also in lots of anime.

The perforated form aims to give the sense of straight connection with nature and the pavilion, as it is encircled by grass and trees. Furthermore, it achieves the desired atmosphere and and an abundance of different shadows, depending on the light. The shiny texture of the metallic materials gives more emphasis at its look.

Seagull Island

2019

Politi Georgia 10/10

Traveling back in time, the gulls arrived on the Seagull Island after a long journey. There they created their everlasting home and lived freely. People who wanted to follow the example of the gulls and live according their own rules organized the Seagull’s settlement. It was built on a marshy slope on the edge of the island’s lagoon.

Characteristic of the site is the seasonal rise of the lake’s water level.

Daily routine is based on a collective life. The private spaces are the residences, which are used only for resting. All other spaces are shared to all. Today humans and seagulls coexist and live free in peace.

T he geological changes led to the creation of a wetland ecosystem around the Sea G ull site, which is characterized by warm summers and cold winters. During the summer months, the lagoon level rises with the result of hydrographic vegetation being formed on the banks of the lagoon.

Motion Picture Museum

Opposite Klathmonos square between Parnassos and Ioannou Paparigopoulos streets is the study plot. In the effort to search for content, a study of the surrounding area was carried out.

Who are the daily walkers?

Which city hubs are within easy reach?

What are the nearby museums? What is the history of the building block?

The numerous cinemas in the center of Athens as well as the destruction of the “Attikon” cinema, which is located in the same building block as the study plot, are key references for the project.

The Motion Picture Museum wants to tell the story of cinema and honor its representatives. Using both digital and physical media, it creates a narrative path and takes the visitor from the era of the black and white image to the present day. At the same time, the building itself functions as an alternative route to Klathmonos Square. As it emerges organically, a hill is formed on its planted roof that houses a open air cinema theater.

Urban Wedges | Activating residues of space in Kypseli Diploma Project

Location:

This thesis is a “parasitic” strategy scenario, which aims to exploit the minimal empty spaces left in densely populated areas. Kypseli in Athens was chosen as the study area, due to the large number of residents and the density of the buildings.

Observing the area, between the narrow streets and such tall apartment buildings, “cracks” appear in some places, which are gaps left between buildings. Through the recording, it was observed that these places have been abandoned by their owners and now have the function of garbage dumps.

We consider that these urban “cracks”, are places that could host functions for the benefit of the inhabitants and be activated again. By placing scaffolding and objects that apply to it, it will be possible to use these spots in a reversible way and create additional spaces, which may “relieve” the area. Each scaffolding has a different use with a public character and is placed in one of these places. In this way, another traffic and communication network will be formed for those who need it.

The logic of this “invasion” is based on the mode of action of parasites, where through conflict with other organisms, they lead the whole system to symbiosis and then to co-evolution.
