The 2018-19 Ultimate Guide includes everything you need for an amazing troop year—trainings for volunteers, programs for girls and families, outdoor adventure opportunities, and much more. It is designed to be a comprehensive resource for you, our volunteers, who are the backbone of our organization. Thank you for being the strong support girls need on their leadership journeys. The Girl Scout Mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. A key way we deliver this mission is through providing girls with experiences where they can try new things, conquer their fears, and persevere through challenges… where they can set high goals, and reach them with the support of their Girl Scout sisters. Through nature exploration, arts enrichment, science experiments, and more, girls are building skills that they can take with them through all life stages. They are embracing their potential, and becoming inspiring leaders. All of our programs are developed with girls in mind—they are girl-focused and girl-led! It is my hope that every G.I.R.L. across eastern Massachusetts—both girls and volunteers—is able to embrace new opportunities in Girl Scouting this year, and have a ton of fun in the process! Yours in Girl Scouting,
Welcome to a new year in Girl Scouting!

Going for the Gold! Over 50 G.I.R.L.s in eastern Massachusetts earned the Gold Award in 2018! Meet four of our 2017-18 Gold Award Girl Scouts:
Maggie Chiffer, Topsfield Maggie addressed the far-reaching impact of dementia in older community members by teaching dance classes at her local Council on Aging, leading educational workshops about brain health and dementia risk reduction, and creating a dementia literacy curriculum for the local high school’s health program.
Katie Hurwitz, Walpole
Sarah Hutchinson, Concord Sarah noted that most children who have lost a parent do not get bereavement support. Inspired by the care she received after a personal loss, she created a program to train teens in supporting and guiding grieving children. The National Alliance for Grieving Children is now sharing Sarah’s training program across its entire network.
Emily Kiehl, Marion Emily responded to a lack of programming for residents of a permanent supportive housing community for veterans by creating programs that support social, culinary, and technological skills development. She taught technology classes and gave cooking lessons based on family-style cookbooks.
Contact us at CustomerCare@gsema.org or call 844-306-GSEM (4736)
GIRL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Katie helped others find their individual storytelling voice by creating a six-week writing program, with each week devoted to a different genre and including a presentation by a professional writer, a writing workshop for local students, and an open microphone night for all to share their stories.
