Work On Introductions Your girl will meet all kinds of new people when she starts kindergarten, so make sure she knows how to introduce herself with a smile and eye contact.
Practice Builds Confidence Your girl will feel extra confident when she can zip up her coat or put on her shoes all by herself. Practice buttons, zips, Velcro, and other fasteners she might encounter during the day. Remember: kindergarten is a place to play and learn, so dress for ease and comfort.
Give Her Emergency Info Teach your girl her phone number and how to spell her name, and make sure this information—including your contact details—is on a card in her backpack.
Reinforce What She Knows Does your girl know her alphabet or colors? Can she count to ten or higher? Celebrate her skills and let her know these abilities will help her when she starts school. Calling out these strengths will give her the confidence she needs in those first days.
Help Her Make New Friends Gather her pre-school friends and start a new friends group over the summer. Knowing a few extra kids will help your girl feel less alone and give her an instant crew to hit the playground with!
Text DAISY to 59618 for expert tips and activities to prepare your soon-to-be kindergartener for success before she even walks into the classroom. Message and data rates apply.
Confidence and Pride
“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold.”
Girl Scouts is the place for every G.I.R.L.! As a kindergarten Girl Scout, your girl will practice leadership with grit like a go-getter, problem solve like an innovator, embrace challenges like a risk-taker, and show empathy like a leader—all in a girl-led environment where she can feel free to let her full, magnificent personality shine through. Girl Scouts is the best leadership experience for girls because it is designed specifically with, by, and for girls. She’ll try new things and discover exactly what makes her light up. Everything a Girl Scout does centers on four program pillars: STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math); the outdoors; life skills; and entrepreneurship. Activities may include a field trip to a local science center or a simple neighborhood hike. Through community service, Girl Scout Daisies have the opportunity to change the world! Girl Scout leadership awards give girls a chance to make lasting change for a community issue they care about.
