Girl Scout Troop
A Girl Scout Troop meeting is where friendship, imagination, and fun come together! While the Troop Leader organizes the place, day and time for meetings, they do encourage the girls to play an active role in planning activities, service projects, field trips, and more. When she plans it, she’ll love it! DID YOU KNOW? That girls can participate in Girl Scouts without being in a troop? Create your own Girl Scout experience by joining as a “Juliette”. 4 | Girl Scouts
Unplugged . . . Outdoor Adventures
There’s no app that a girl can download that recreates the heart-thumping, jaw dropping excitement of conquering our climbing tower or saddling up a horse for the first time. Through our Outdoor Programs, girls will learn about everything nature has to offer AND experience it firsthand, all year round!

FAQs
How much does it cost to be in Girl Scouts? All members
pay a $15 annual membership due that makes them a member of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). The Girl Scout year runs from October 1 – September 30. Beyond the membership dues paid each year, the troop may set a dues amount to help cover the costs of activities, patches, and supplies for the troop. Additionally, while books and uniforms are not required, they are suggested. Families looking for financial assistance can find more information on our website at www.gshpa.org.
Does my daughter have to join a troop? While many girls
do belong to a troop, many others join as individual girls (called “Juliettes”). All registered Girl Scouts can join in on the fun of council-wide events and camp.
Who is leading my daughter’s Girl Scout experience?
The Troop Leaders and Co-Leaders are volunteers who have been trained by GSHPA staff and passed a background check.
What is the time commitment of Girl Scouts? While the
troop meeting frequency is determined by the Troop Leader, Girl Scouting is more flexible than ever. If you can’t find a troop that fits with your busy schedules, your Girl Scout can join as a Juliette and pick and choose the programming that fits with her.
How old does a girl have to be to join? It’s never too late to
be a Girl Scout. Girls ages 5-17 can join in on the fun! Keep in mind that 5 year olds must also be in Kindergarten to qualify. Adults can join at any age to become an adult member or a volunteer.
Does my daughter have to participate in product sales? While the Girl Scout Cookie Sale and Fall Product Sale are not requirements to be a part of Girl Scouts, it is a great group activity that teaches girls about goal setting, teamwork, and financial management. The sales also help the troop earn money to help cover costs for special trips and events.
How will I know what activities and/or council-wide events are available? You can see what adventures await
your Girl Scout by visiting our website at www.gshpa.org, following us on our social media pages, or checking with your daughter’s Troop Leader. Special invitations and announcements are also sent out via email to all registered girls and their parents so don’t forget to include your email address when you sign her up.
What type of awards will my daughter receive? There are
several Girl Scout awards available for girls based upon grade level, interest and involvement The highest award in Girl Scouting is the Gold Award, which is a great accomplishment and offers opportunities for college scholarships.
Girl Scout LAW I will do my best to be Honest and fair, Friendly and helpful, Considerate and caring, Courageous and strong, and Responsible for what I say and do, And to Respect myself and others, Respect authority, Use resources wisely, Make the world a better place, And be a sister to every Girl Scout.
