CEO Letter 4

G.I.R.L.

Just because I am from a small town in Pennsylvania, doesn’t mean I can’t do big things.” — Ambassador Girl Scout Alexis (Spring, Mills, PA) about how Girl Scouts inspired her to change the world!

These words echo feelings of strength, determination, resilience and hope. Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania’s (GSHPA) programs work together to give girls the tools for a bright future, while applying their new-found skills to build a better tomorrow for all of us. Girl Scout badges are for the go-getters who like to jump into learning new things, building new skills and setting the goal to fill her vest or sash with accomplishments. Girls Go STEM programs are for our innovative problem-solvers who might just spark curiosity in a STEM career. Girl Scout Fall and Cookie Programs allow girls to become risk-takers by opening and running their very own business from start to finish. Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards are for girls ready to lead and discover sustainable solutions for issues facing their local and global communities. This year help her plan the ways she can discover her inner G.I.R.L. and do something BIG! Flip through our guide to see how Girl Scouts can take the lead every day! Have fun and make it a G.I.R.L. kind of year! Yours in Girl Scouting,

Hear what GSUSA’s CEO, Sylvia Acevedo, has to say about us!

Summer is CAMP Season! The calendar of events for June, July and August is so chock-full of outdoor activities that we couldn’t fit them all here. Look for the annual CAMP GUIDE publication, which details GSHPA’s full range of day and resident camp offerings. In the meantime, we’ve included fun outdoor activity ideas here that Girl Scouts can participate in at any time during the year!

Volunteer Kick-Off & Annual Meeting

Boost Up Your Goal York Troop 20082 boosted their Girl Scout goal and dialed up the fun during the Fall Product 59 Minute Challenge. Read about their success in Sherri Coble’s volunteer Q and A!

Q A

Did your troop have a goal in mind when they started the Fall Product Program?

Learn more about the 59 Minute Challenge.

For our challenge, we gave our girls the goal of selling 100 nuts candies and magazine in 59 minutes. We’ve gone on a lot of great trips with the girls over the years. They know they have to work hard and fundraise to do this. By the end of the 59 Minute Challenge, our Girl Scouts sold 150 products!

What was the girl’s reaction to being so successful during the 59 Minute Challenge?

Q

They were so happy! They tried really hard to double their goal. I was surprised to see how much fun they had.

A

Q A Q A

Why should troops host a 59 Minute Challenge? For one, the girls loved it! Secondly, I believe they sold more than if parents or volunteers had sold for them.

What is the best tip you can share with volunteers and parents for a successful Fall Product Program? Get the girls involved. We gave the girls different options of how they wanted to sell like doing emails and the 59 Minute Challenge telethon.

Fall Product Program

Oct 2–Nov 28, 2017 17

Q A Q A

What did the girls like best about the 59 Minute Challenge? Ringing the bell with every sale and meeting their goal as a team.

What do you plan to do with your Fall Product proceeds?

We don’t know yet, but they will be starting their Silver Award soon. Plus, they would like to go on an international trip in a few years.
