Dear friends, young people of Beijing and the world: Thank you for your engagement. I firmly believe that young people must be at the heart of our thinking on sustainable development, on climate change, on bio-diversity, on our transformation to a low-carbon economy. It is your future! But how we respond today to the challenge of sustainability will shape the world, you inherit. Your generation has an opportunity to carve out new industries, and create the path to a more sustainable, clean energy future for all. This mission begins with each of us in our daily actions and choices. Our lifestyles, what we concern, have tremendous importance for the well beginning of the atmosphere, for oceans, rivers, lands and forests, for species and nature resources. I recently established a global sustainability panel with the members from many countries, including China. I have asked them to create the new vision on low-carbon prosperity, one that leads to life for dignity for all while protecting the eco-systems that sustain us. We need your voices too. After all, sustainability is about your lives, your hopes and your future. So please unleash your imagination, inspire us with your passion, and insist that we do more without delay. Together, let us work to make the future saver, greener, and more sustainable for all. Thank you!

I am honoured to be sending this message to be shared with those gathered here participating in the Global Sustainable Leaders Forum.
This year, one of our key achievements is the collaborative development of the Framework Approach guiding the efforts of the United Nations system throughout this International Year of Youth.
I would like to offer my sincere support for the vision and mission of the Forum, and the efforts made to form close partnerships with young people to create a sustainable world. Indeed, I was very pleased to learn that there are over 1200 delegates participating in this important event and of those numbers, more than 200 in attendance are Youth Delegates. I congratulate the many young people from different types of youth organizations and backgrounds taking an active role in the issues that concern them at the national, regional and global levels. Your participation showcases the important role you have in driving forward youth development at all levels, and the strong voice and power young people possess when they are actively engaged. Clearly, the presence of young leaders here today give evidence to the fact that youth are not just the leaders of the future but are also leaders of the present. As you know, the international community has proclaimed this year to be the International Year of Youth under the theme: “Dialogue and Mutual Understanding”. This year provides a tremendous opportunity to raise awareness that young people should be at the centre of our efforts to promote development, peace and security, and to create a sustainable future. Young people must be both beneficiaries of new policies and agents of change within their local and national communities. As I am sure all are aware, youth engagement in activities throughout the year is therefore very important to its success.
The UN system’s approach for the Year focuses on the following three key areas: - increasing commitment and investment in youth; - increasing youth participation and partnerships and, - increasing inter-cultural understanding among youth. To boost our commitment and investment in youth we must first recognize youth development as a smart investment and see young people as important members of society contributing to development. We need to work towards an understanding of inequalities among youth and how to effectively address the needs of the most disadvantaged. A key element to this is fostering research and knowledge building to better inform policies and programmes.
We were delighted when we learned about this Forum and the important role youth are playing in its success. We encourage you to organise activities to kick off the beginning of the year – and we encourage you to continue to celebrate and advocate it over the next 10 months. In order to support you in celebrating the Year, the United Nations Programme on Youth partnered with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the World Organization of the Scout Movement to develop an Activities Kit: A guide to celebrating the International Year of Youth. The purpose of this Kit is to provide youth with practical guidance and concrete examples to organize and implement activities throughout the Year and beyond. You can easily download the kit from our website. The year of youth is, of course, just one of the many ways in which the Youth Programme and the Network work to advance youth development.
To improve youth participation and partnerships, we must institutionalize mechanisms for youth participation in decision-making processes and we must support youth-led organizations, including strengthening networks and partnerships.
We understand that as youth leaders, it can be sometimes frustrating to be side-lined to specific youth processes, and we are working at better establishing means of involving young people in the work of United Nations in a broader sense through our partnerships.
To enhance intercultural understanding among youth, concrete efforts should be undertaken to promote youth interactions across cultures and empower youth as agents of social inclusion and peace.
The Programme on Youth also works on a daily basis to ensure young people across the globe can input to its work in a variety of ways. This year the Programme launched a new website on the International Year and we have received thousands of emails and letters from young people that have provided valuable feedback for our work during the Year. We are encouraged by the continued motivation and energy young people like you bring to our work.
The UN System at the Global level has increased our collaboration and coordination on youth so that we can be even more effective in our contributions to the achievement of internationally agreed development goals.
I am sure that in this room there is no doubt that the United Nations must invest in young people. When looking at the UN Framework for this Year, it is very important to understand that partnerships with young people are fundamental in each and every action we take this Year. The progress achieved during this Year will lay the foundation for further work in youth development, including the implementation of the World Programme of Action for Youth and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
With growing interest in youth issues We have undertaken more youth focused activities across the UN system resulting in the establishment of the UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development of which the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat is honoured to be the permanent co-chair with UNESCO as our current Co
We need to work together and form partnerships around the world to create events, information campaigns and programs targeting youth. These combined efforts play an important role in making policymakers aware of the existing support for youth issues and shows the public how important youth are to their societies.
As such a large percentage of the world population, youth involvement in sustainable development, national or local communities, their schools, NGOs, media or the private sector can have an enormous impact for positive change. The Programme on Youth will continue to work to strengthen its partnerships so that young people are more involved and are empowered in all types of decision-making processes in society. Thank you for your attention and in closing, we at the United Nations Programme on Youth would like wish you a successful Forum and a successful Year.

Global Sustainable Leaders Forum 全球可持续发展领袖论坛 ２０１０
Dear friends from all generations, The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the year commencing on 12 August 2010 as the International Year of Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding. As the one year anniversary of COP15 Copenhagen conference is approaching, we gather here in Global Sustainable Leaders Forum, Beijing, in the People’s Republic of China, to encourage youth engagement in sustainability and to inspire innovation about sustainability through cross generation dialogue. Youth is the rising backbone of the future society. The mindset and behavior of young people will largely determine the progress and efficiency of human effort in sustainability in the generation to come. The present United Nations International Year of Youth coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first International Youth Year in 1985. After 25 years, a new generation of youth is readily available to lead with innovation and contribute through practice. We would like to thank all leaders of today who support the Forum, and especially our partners for their concern and generous help to courage youth engagement in sustainability. We also would like to express our gratitude to our team, all the staff and volunteers. They, at the average age of 23, made the first ever Global Sustainable Leaders Forum possible which per se is truly amazing. Let’s face the challenge of sustainability and grasp the opportunity of the coming new economic wave of low carbon economy. Thank you.

着装 与会期间，23日、24日白天请着正装；23号晚宴请着晚礼服。24号晚上，globe villiage 请着民族服装或者休闲装。 其他提供的服务： 会议语言 所有会议提供同声传译。会议提供的同声传译语种为：汉语、英语 2. 胸卡IDs 在论坛期间，请您佩带胸卡。凭胸卡出入各活动场所、到指定餐厅用餐、乘坐穿梭巴 士。胸卡如有丢失或损坏，请立即通知全球可持续发展领袖论坛接待服务中心补办。 3. 上网 此次论坛不提供上网服务，您可以到国家会议中心的商务中心购买无线网卡，其价格 是一天80元，两天110元，三天130元。 4. 机票服务 此次论坛不提供预定机票，火车票服务，请提前安排好行程。 5. 组委会提供有偿打印，复印服务，打印：3元/页，复印2元/页。 6. 参会期间，如果遇到任何问题，请及时到咨询中心处询问。 与会期间的注意事项： 在会议、宴会期间务请关闭移动电话和其他电子设备，或将其设定为静音状态。 请勿在会场内吸烟。 Other service： Convention language All the convention will provide simultaneous interpretation.
