The orchid family is the largest family of flowering plants at this time. There are literally thousands of varieties that are found naturally as well as those which are known as hybrids. Those who love orchids want to enjoy their beautiful blooms as much as possible. When your orchid isn't blooming, what can you do? If you know how to bloom orchids, you can have blossoms all year long. Orchids are presented to us in garden centers and nurseries in full bloom. Do you ever see them when they are not in bloom? Perhaps only once you have brought them home and their blooming season is over. Then they are not so attractive without their enchanting blossoms. We know that we can't wish them to have blooms all year round. This isn't possible because they are not meant to naturally bloom twelve months out of the year. Mother Nature has preset standards that must be met and many can't be altered in any fashion. However, someone was nice enough to figure out how to bloom orchids when they aren't supposed to be fashioning a bloom. The trick in learning how to bloom orchids is to simply trick the flower into blooming. The process is easy but time-consuming because it takes time for the plant to realize that certain elements are changing. What we need to do then is to follow the lead of Mother Nature set, but simply at a quicker rate.

To begin the slow but quick change process, you will need to move your orchid away from the spot that it loves. Move it into a darker location which also has cooler temperatures. This represents cooler months or, in other words, winter. The new location should be a place where it will be protected and free of drafts. While the orchid is in the new location, you should water it but not as often as usual. You want the potting mixture to dry out as this is what happens in its natural habitat. This again is another sign that the "seasons" are changing and another step in learning how to bloom orchids. The final step is to remove the orchid from its "winter" location and move it back to its original spot. This move should occur after several months. Once the move is completed, water with a high quality fertilizer. Fertilization is a very important step in learning how to bloom orchids. The fertilizer, especially one that is formulated to encourage and increase blooming, will give the orchid energy to jump-start its next growing spurt. You may not want to take the time to hide, so to speak, your orchid and then possibly forget about it. You could try an alternative way to get your orchid to bloom. This process may not always work (remember you're trying to trick the Mother Nature) and your orchid must be healthy. Give your orchid a fertilizer that is high in phosphorus for about a week and a half. There should be ample lighting and the right temperature for blooms to occur. Learning how to bloom orchids may not be something everyone will want to try, but it is possible. Orchids are very ornate and beautiful to look at. If you do try, best of luck to you; I am sure that you will be successful!
