Sandra A. Kenoff President/CEO Girl Scouts of Northern New JerseyA Message from Bonnie Barczykowski,
CEO of Girl Scouts of the USADear Friends,
Every year, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey’s Women of Achievement event celebrates honorees who embody the spirit of mentorship that is embedded in the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. This mission is more important than ever for today’s girls.
One reason Girl Scouts has had such a powerful impact across generations—in northern New Jersey and around the country—is thanks to the adult role models and mentors who bring the Girl Scout experience to life. They open girls up to new experiences, offer valuable guidance on how to navigate the world with confidence, and give them insights into the possibilities and opportunities that are out there to be seized.
On behalf of the entire Girl Scout Movement, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to this year’s Women of Achievement honorees: LaKreisha Jean, Catherine O’Hern, Veronica Ross, and Kristina Tiralosi.
All exceptional leaders within their fields and amazing role models, these women reflect the vision and values of the Girl Scout mission and are making an incredible impact in their communities across northern New Jersey. I am so grateful for their leadership.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Bonnie Barczykowski Chief Executive Officer Girl Scouts of the USASponsors

Litigation
AssociateSchenck Price Smith & King
Catherine O’Hern is a litigation associate at the law firm of Schenck Price Smith & King, headquartered in Florham Park. As a member of the Professional Liability Practice Group, O’Hern has experience in medical malpractice defense, civil litigation, insurance defense, third-party liability, and Appellate matters. She was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C., in the Superior Court Chancery and Law Divisions, and served as a judicial intern and mediator in the Morris County Superior Court and with the NJ Attorney General in the Consumer Affairs Division, Alternative Dispute Resolution. Prior to joining Schenck Price, she practiced at a law firm in New York City.
O’Hern began her professional career as a marketing representative for a mainframe and supercomputer firm, designing and supervising the installation of proprietary software solutions to Fortune 500 companies. After taking time away to raise her four daughters full time, she fulfilled a lifelong dream and attended law school. Making her experience even more rewarding, one of her daughters attended law school and took the Bar Exam at the same time. O’Hern’s unconventional choices to take “the road less traveled” have provided her with a unique opportunity to begin a new chapter in the law, at an uncommon age, and she says, “that has made all the difference.”
O’Hern holds a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Veronica Ross
SVP/Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Kearny Bank
Veronica Ross is a Senior Vice President and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Kearny Bank. In this role, she works closely with all departments on the bank’s DE&I initiatives to drive awareness to all team members and to establish a diverse environment in which all employees and clients feel valued and respected. Ross also leads the women in business program, Kearny Bank ChangeMakers, which provides educational resources, support, and networking opportunities to ensure the growth and success of womenowned businesses.
Ross’s diversity-related initiatives have been greatly informed by her background and work experience. She was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States with her parents and younger sisters at the age of four—a formative experience that instilled in her an uncommon work ethic and a unique appreciation for the opportunities that came available to her.
With more than 35 years of experience in the financial industry, Ross has been with Kearny Bank for the past eight years, where she led the Treasury Management team before taking on her current role. Prior to joining Kearny, she was a Regional Manager and SVP for PNC Bank, and before then served in various regional management positions with Wachovia Bank where, among other special projects, she launched its Hispanic initiative for the tri-state area and served as spokesperson for radio commercials and television spots in Spanish that promoted Wachovia’s products and services to the largely underserved Hispanic community.
Ross’s professional experience is complemented by her longstanding devotion to charitable endeavors and resolve to serve her community. She actively supports and volunteers at Table to Table, Junior Achievement, and St. John the Baptist Church in Hillsdale, where she has served as a Eucharistic Minister for the past 10 years. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of New Jersey, and the Executive Women of New Jersey. Her deepest commitment to community service was as a member of the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey for 10 years, during which she served as the Second Vice Chair, Chair of the Finance Committee, and as a member of the Audit Committee. Most importantly, she used her leadership status there to serve as a role model for young women— especially those of diverse backgrounds—and to help them develop the courage, confidence, and character to have a positive and lasting impact on society.
Kristina Tiralosi
Senior Software Engineer
Crestron Electronics, Inc.
Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise
Kristina Tiralosi is a Senior DevOps Software Engineer at Crestron Electronics. A graduate of Ramapo College in Mahwah, she has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and is a Gold Award Girl Scout.
While at Ramapo College, Tiralosi led the college’s Computers & Technology Club. In 2023, when Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey visited Crestron Electronics for its International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebration, she was a keynote speaker and guide to the attending Girl Scouts. The girls learned about career opportunities in the A/V industry as they toured the Crestron Experience Center.
Tiralosi earned her Girl Scout Gold Award for her successful chartering of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organization at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan when she was a student there, contributing to a large-scale anti-smoking and anti-drug movement at the school. She continues her work in this area by returning to the school each year to mentor
students and present an award to a graduating senior who has participated in the club.
The Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award was founded in 2014 to pay tribute to the former Girl Scouts of the USA National President (1996-1999) and former Girl Scout Council of Bergen County Board Chair (1974-1980). Celebrated for her outstanding leadership of Girl Scouts, Ellie is dedicated to the mission that all girls may reach their full potential. Through this award, we honor Ellie Ferdon’s vision by highlighting an exceptional young woman with a very promising career ahead of her.

Mitzi Golbek Spirit of Girl Scouting Award
Academically, Jean earned a degree in History/Political Science with a minor in French from an Historical Black College and University, Virginia Union University. She went on to receive an M.L.S. from Northeastern University and M.B.A. from Long Island University. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctorate from the American College of Education while on sabbatical as an adjunct professor at Bergen Community College.
Guided by her core values of equity, opportunity, respect, and accountability, Jean remains dedicated to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey as a Lifetime Member, Service Unit Treasurer, and Troop Leader. Aside from her community and academic work, she maintains a healthy lifestyle while balancing her commitments as a triathlete and she-warrior.
The Mitzi Golbek Spirit of Girl Scouting Award was founded in 2007 to memorialize the former Girl Scouts: Lenni-Lenape Council executive director, who led the council from 1989-2002. Celebrated for her innovation in programming and council growth, Mitzi was an advocate of good food shared with friends and family. Through this award, we honor Mitzi Golbek’s vision and her 39 years as a Girl Scout.
Jane Kurek
Women of Achievement Committee Chair Honoree Class of 2009
Jane Kurek is this year’s Women of Achievement Committee Chair and an outstanding Girl Scout volunteer. She was a Women of Achievement honoree in 2009.
Kurek retired from The Provident Bank Foundation in 2020 as the Executive Director after an extensive career in banking. Under her leadership, the foundation invested more than $7 million dollars in communitybased nonprofits and educational institutions in the locations where Provident Bank conducts business.
Throughout her career, Kurek has focused on providing leadership to nonprofits to help them achieve their missions and meet the needs of those they serve. In retirement, she continues to be deeply involved as a volunteer leader in the nonprofit sector, establishing and building strategic relationships and partnerships with key community stakeholders.
Girl Scouting has been a family affair for Kurek—her mom was a Girl Scout leader during World War II. In 1993, Kurek followed in her mom’s footsteps as Troop Leader for her daughter’s troop. Now in 2024, her granddaughters are Girl Scouts with their mom as their leader.
Kurek is actively involved in United Way’s Women United Council, which provides support for ALICE and households in poverty here in the region. She is a Trustee & Board Treasurer of The Compassionate Friends Foundation. She continues her long-time volunteer work with First Night Morris County as a
