BOLD GIRLS & BRIGHT FUTURES.
A NOTE FROM THE CAMP DIRECTOR Hi there! Welcome to the first step in an amazing adventure this summer. My name is Erin (camp name, Chip) and I am the camp director at Camp Molly Lauman. I am so excited that you’re considering spending part of the summer with us. Many of my favorite memories are of times I spent at camp, and I know you’ll have a blast too! Whether this is your first time at camp or you’re a seasoned pro, Camp Molly Lauman is the place for you. We’ve got opportunities to channel your inner mad scientist with some explosive experiments, and time to snuggle into a hammock with a good book, along with my personal camp favorites: horseback riding, canoeing, and arts and crafts! On my first trip to camp, I was pretty scared. I was worried I wouldn’t fit in and I was really far away from my family. But on my very first day, a girl took my hand and introduced herself — without realizing it, I had just met my best friend and we are still best friends today! Now as the camp director, it’s my job to help other girls find those same friendships and make their own memories that will last forever. Camp is a place for everyone, not just Girl Scouts. There is something special about watching the sun rise over Big Bear Lake on a canoe or listening to the ponies whinny with happiness as they gobble down their dinner. It’s a certain kind of joy you can only find at camp! It’s my goal to make sure every girl who comes through Molly Lauman’s gates finds a new friend, tries a new activity and leaves feeling more confident in herself. I hope you’re ready for the best summer ever — I know I am! Erin Feinour, Camp Director Camp name,

tent while making lifelong friendships and memories.
Green grass tickles your back as you roll down a hill…
If you’ve completed any grade K-12, Camp Molly Lauman has a program for you. If you’re not a registered Girl Scout, all you have to do is pay a $30 membership fee in addition to camp registration costs — which allows you to participate in other activities offered by the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council through September 2020! We offer programs for all interests—from horseback riding and high adventure, to culinary camps and spa experiences. We even have camps based on your favorite books and movies.
You can hear girls laugh discovering frogs by the creek… Hiking in the woods with the group, you spot a doe and her fawns… And of course, you can almost taste the melted chocolate on your fingers after making the perfect s’more. At camp, you’ll get in touch with all your senses AND your Girl Scout friends! Since 1929, Girl Scout summer camp has given girls a chance to explore their inner go-getter, innovator, risk-taker and leader. At camp, every girl can try new things — from learning archery to exploring life in the creek. Girls practice outdoor skills like building a campfire and pitching a

CAMP ACTIVITIES Each camp program has activities that relate to a special theme, and all campers also have plenty of time to do traditional camp activities such as: • Swimming
• Singing songs
• Arts and crafts
• Playing games
• Exploring nature • Campfires
• Hanging out with new and old friends
• Cookouts
• Outdoor adventures
In addition, you’ll get to do free-choice activities with your group. Camp counselors will talk you through the options and help your group decide what additional activities you want to do. Some of the activities that are offered include: • Archery*
• Spa mixology*
• Axe throwing*
• Slime making
• Outdoor movies
• Night games
• Canoeing*
• Sleeping under the stars
• Creeking
• Gaga tournament
• Scavenger hunts
• Yoga
• Slacklining*
• Letterboxing
• Slingshots *Some activities have age restrictions, but there are many options available for every age! 7
LIFE IN THE
WOODS
Even sleeping at camp is a fantastical adventure! Campers live in a group with other girls who have signed up for the same program. Each unit has sleeping quarters for 16-24 girls, pit latrines, a hand washing station, and a picnic shelter. Two central shower houses are available for all girls to use. In case of severe weather, indoor shelter is available.
We have four types of sleeping shelters:
Platform tents are where
Cabins have lights, screened
most girls sleep. They are heavy canvas structures with wooden floors and four beds. Open flaps allow for light and ventilation.
windows, and four beds. They have electricity, so you may want to bring a small plug in fan to help keep cool.
Yurts are a cool cross between tents and cabins. They have ceiling fans, lights, screened windows, and four sets of bunk beds.
8
Our lodge is a large open room. Girls sleep on folding cots and have access to indoor bathrooms. This is the only sleeping arrangement where counselors sleep in the same room with the campers.
CAMP STAFF
Our staff members go through a rigorous screening, selection, and training process. Many staff members are aspiring teachers, outdoor educators, and former campers. They come from all over Ohio, the United States, and the world to work here! With the exception of campers who sleep in the lodge, staff members do not stay in the same sleeping quarters as campers. Counselors stay in quarters near the center of the unit, where they can easily monitor everyone. At night, camp counselors will check to make sure everyone is settling in and feeling comfortable in their outdoor surroundings. Often, they’ll read stories or sing each tent to sleep. Your counselors are always within earshot if you need them during the night.
9
WHAT'S COOKING? Meals at camp are kid-friendly and healthy. We prepare many dishes from scratch, which allows us to accommodate most common allergies and dietary restrictions. Most meals are served family style in the camp dining hall. Campers also enjoy campfire cookouts, where they’ll get to help plan and prepare the meals. Typical meals include tacos, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, and cheese quesadillas with tomato soup. If you’re a picky eater, we’ve got you covered! There’s always a salad bar and sandwich station available.
10
CAMP FRIENDS FORVER
(CFF)
Bring a Friend!
Lone Wolf?
You can request one buddy* to bunk with you during your time at camp. To be bunk buddies, you both must be registered for the same program and both must request each other by name, not troop number. Why just one buddy? Most campers stay in four-person tents or cabins. We do not allow groups of three to request each other because that leaves one girl in the tent/cabin who may feel left out. After all, part of the fun at camp is making new friends, and that’s hard to do when you’re only hanging out with girls you already know.
More than half of the girls who come to camp come on their own. So, if you come without a buddy, don’t worry. You’ll be living with a group of girls who have signed up for the same program as you, so you’ll already have something in common!
If you have more than one friend coming to camp with you, you’ll have plenty of time to hang out with them during most of the daytime activities, like swimming, meals, and game time.
Camp counselors are great with helping everyone get to know each other through fun games and icebreaker activities. You’ll definitely want to bring a notebook and pen along with your camp gear, because you’ll want to get contact info from your new buddies at the end of the week.
*Requests for multiple buddies will not be honored.

GET CAMP-READY! At resident camp, girls can be themselves. In this safe environment, girls practice independence and interact with peers who share similar interests. Going to camp for the first time (or second, or third) can be a little scary, but there are lots of ways to be prepared!
Check out Chip’s Tips:
Become confident with washing, combing, and pulling your hair back on your own, especially after swimming or showering!
Learn how to identify daddy longlegs, which are completely harmless. Practice what to do if you find one in your tent (stay relaxed and gently sweep the little guy outside).
Step out into a natural environment at night time. Listen to the sounds to prepare for sleeping in the woods.
Learn how important it is to stay hydrated! Make a water bottle a constant part of your day, and set goals for how much water to drink, especially while being active outdoors.
Practice applying bug repellent and sun screen and remember (always spray away from the tents)!
Familiarize yourself with what a tick looks like and how to properly check for them. Practice what to do if you find a tick on yourself (tell an adult).
Try new foods at home, and even come up with some cool recipes that you could make over a fire!
Practice packing your bag! Make sure you know how to roll your sleeping bag just like you’ll do at the end of camp. Try your best to come to camp with just one bag!
Practice singing a camp song.
Have progressively longer sleepovers. Start with one night at a friend or family member’s home, and gradually build up to at least 3!
12
TIERED PRICING (what is it?) We believe that every girl, regardless of financial circumstances, should have the opportunity to experience camp. While the cost to maintain camp continues to rise, we understand that families have differing abilities to meet summer camp costs. For this reason, we use tiered pricing.
Tier One closely reflects the full cost of camp, including staff expenses, property maintenance, food, and program supplies.
Tier Two is a partially subsidized cost of camp, for families that can pay a little more, but not the full cost of camp.
Tier Three is heavily subsidized through participation in product programs, special events, donations, and grants.
Choose the tier that works best for you and your family. Fee choice is on the honor system and no financial documentation is required. All campers will have the same experience regardless of the tier chosen, and camp staff will have no knowledge of which tier their campers have selected.
13
CHECK OUT CAMP! Summer Camp Open House Check out camp before your sleepaway camp adventure! Poke your head in a tent, test out the beds, play a round of Gaga Ball, and make a s’more. Meet the director and some summer camp staff members, learn a new outdoor skill, and ask any questions that you may have about resident camp.

ADVENTURE TREK FAQ Big adventures can bring up some pretty big questions. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive. What’s included in the cost? The cost includes all meals, lodging, equipment rental fees, trained guides and transportation necessary for the trip. You’ll only need money for snacks and souvenirs along the way. What special gear will I need to bring? We provide all the group camping gear, cooking equipment and specialized activity gear, such as tents, backpacking packs, bicycles and rock-climbing equipment for each planned activity. All you need to bring is your personal gear — clothes, sleeping bag, pillow, personal overnight items, water bottles and mess kits. We’ll send you a specialized packing list for your trip, but here are a few items to start thinking about now:
What kind of physical shape should I be in to go on a trip? If you can run a mile without stopping (no time limit), then you’re in good shape for an Adventure Trek. How long will I be away from camp? Most Adventure Trekkers spend one or two nights at Camp Molly Lauman before leaving on their adventure. You’ll return on Thursday of the following week — right on time for closing campfire with the rest of camp. What happens if I get sick or injured on the trip? If you get sick or injured, getting you better will be our top priority so you can safely get back to the fun. If you are unable to continue, we will contact your parent or caregiver to arrange a pickup.
Sleeping Bags: The smaller the better. We pack gear for 12 people in each van. Smaller sleeping bags can help save space for things such as coolers of food. Footwear: Sneakers are recommended for biking, caving and rock climbing. For backpacking, you will need sturdy, broken-in hiking boots; for watersports, you will need secure, closed-toe amphibious shoes. Clothes: Quick-dry clothes are best for all activities. Cotton should be avoided because it stays wet and uncomfortable for a long time.
