Cold Stone Creamery prides itself on giving customers the “Ultimate Ice Cream Experience.” Beyond serving premium ice cream that is made daily, Cold Stone Creamery crew members engage the “Cold Stone Experience Factor” which includes singing, flipping and tossing ice cream creations, and creating a fun, family-friendly atmosphere for customers. “When a customer walks into Cold Stone Creamery they can expect fresh, super premium ice cream, the sweet and dreamy scent of waffles wafting through the air, and helpful, friendly crew members smiling, greeting and giving you the ultimate ice cream experience,” says Jason Chua, general manager of Cold Stone Creamery. As part of the Cold Stone Creamery international market, Cold Stone Guam has garnered several awards in the past year: Top Cake Sales, Top Shake Sales, Top Sales awards and Golden Spade awards presented for elite standards in quality, service and cleanliness. Since opening its first location in July 2004, Cold Stone Creamery has supported numerous individuals and island organizations through in-kind donations and support. In addition, Cold Stone Creamery has had a longstanding relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and donated portions of grand opening day sales to the American Cancer Society and the Guam Girl Scouts.
With nearly 100,000 Facebook followers, KFC Guam is island’s most popular social media food account. KFC Guam uses the channel to interact with customers and market new products and promotions. “Social media has been a great learning experience for us,” says general manager Frank A. Cruz. “It’s great that we’re able to connect with our audience faster and better than ever, but it can be a challenge to keep up with the responses. That’s something we’re always working on improving.” Although KFC is an international brand, KFC Guam takes strides to localize the menu by developing meals and flavors that are closer to home but stay true to franchise standards. Guam KFCs are the only KFCs in the world that offer red rice, finadene, and chicken kelaguen. Lay’s potato chip crusted fried chicken is another item only available in Guam KFCs. Cruz says KFC does extremely well during lent season when temporary menu items like shrimp kelaguen are available. “During Lent, a lot of people give up eating rice, so while our rice sales might dip, our mashed potato sales shoot way up,” says Cruz. The restaurant also sells platter-sized portions of certain menu items and fills hundreds of orders of red rice pans every week. Last year, KFC launched its delivery service in the Tamuning area and clocks an average delivery time of 15 minutes. KFC Guam has seven locations across the island, including a new location in Yigo. The Dededo restaurant renovation is expected to be completed this summer and future plans include expanding delivery service to Agana, Mangilao and Dededo and renovating the Anigua location.

WENDY’S
SHIRLEY’S COFFEE SHOP
For nearly 30 years, Wendy’s Guam has been committed to serving the best value of quality fast food offerings including healthy menu options such as salad entrees made with fresh hand-cut vegetables. In 2015, Wendy’s Guam received the International Franchisee of the Year award at the Wendy’s convention in Orlando, rising above over 200 international franchise owners across the globe. The award is presented every two years to one international Wendy’s franchise that excels in key facets of the business, including operational excellence, sales, employee development, marketing and community involvement. Home of the Baconator and the award-winning Dave’s Hot N Juicy Signature Cheeseburger, Wendy’s Guam employs a workforce of 188 and has four restaurants in Hagåtña, Tamuning, Barrigada and Upper Tumon. A fifth restaurant is expected to open later this year at Naval Base Guam. “Currently, we’re beginning the planning and development of Wendy’s at Naval Station, Guam,” says Jeff Munoz, general manager of Wendy’s Guam. “We’re honored and humbled to be able to serve our men and women in uniform, their families, our veterans, and the great people who support base operations.” Munoz went on to say that over the years, Wendy’s Guam has also proudly supported the local community including countless individuals, nonprofit organizations, churches, schools, youth groups, and government offices.
Shirley Wai opened her first Shirley’s Coffee Shop at the Agana Downtown Hotel in January 1983. Although she had little experience in the restaurant business, the matriarch was quick to learn and was soon cooking up dishes that would garner international notoriety and land her fried rice recipe on the back of cans of SPAM. Wai would even go on to collaborate with Hormel Corporation to create the “Hot and Spicy” variety of the popular canned meat. Today, the local family restaurant serves a unique fusion menu of American, Chamorro, Chinese and Filipino dishes at its four locations. After 33 years in business, fried rice is still a top choice among patrons as well as Shirley’s pork chops, jumbo prawns, and anything on the breakfast menu. Shirley’s Coffee Shop says customers can expect a new menu featuring new dishes in the near future. “What really makes Shirley’s unique is how family orientated we are,” says Stephanie Lai, granddaughter of Shirley Wai. “We treat you and our staff like family. We even recognize our regular customers and we know their orders by heart.” Lai also mentioned that the family recently renovated the Agana and Tamuning restaurants to provide a clean and comfortable environment for their customers. Shirley’s Coffee Shop is a long advocate for the local sports community and created the annual Shirley’s Basketball Invitational League tournament, which is coming up on its 17th year. Shirley’s Coffee Shop also supports Guam Football Association, home of the Matao team.
MAXX RACING Since 2003, Tom Tsiao and his team at MAXX Racing have strived to become the island’s premier source for custom aftermarket wheels and tires. Located across Micronesia Mall, the shop carries the latest wheel designs and trends and has over 60 designs currently in stock. “Right now black chrome is very popular,” says Tom Tsiao, MAXX Racing general manager. “I keep up with the market and follow the auto trends to make sure our shop has the latest designs on hand.” MAXX Racing also puts in special orders for customers, with a delivery time of about one month. MAXX Racing is open Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 5PM.

KWONG HWA
TODAY’S REALTY
For over 30 years, the Kwong Hwa family store has provided the latest in affordable home furnishings and decor for residents of Guam. “We always look for new items that are away from the mainstream and we focus on an affordable price point,” says Jack Chen, Kwong Hwa general manager. Chen says the store strives to stabilize its product price range so that “even when the price of fuel goes up, our customers won’t have a fear of our prices also going up.” As a small family business, one of the ongoing challenges Kwong Hwa faces is competition with large department stores and online shopping. “When big stores slash prices it’s very difficult, sometimes impossible, for us to compete. One way we try to counter that is to offer product and items that are not available in the big stores.” Chen says he loves discovering and bringing new and exciting products to Guam. “Competing with big stores is a challenge, but I am a positive thinker. We have 30 employees, but I think of them as 30 families that need support. That keeps me motivated to find ways for the store to continue being successful. When customers shop in a local store, they are directly supporting the employees and families that work there.” Giving back to the island is also important to Chen, and Kwong Hwa supports a number of local charities including the Salvation Army, Kamalen Karidat, and the American Red Cross. “I’m proud that despite all the challenges, we are still in business after 30 years,” says Chen. “We have to give back to the island for that.”
Today’s Realty was formed in 1997 when several real estate agents teamed up with a plan to create a new way to do real estate in Guam. Today, the company includes over 25 of Guam’s top producing real estate agents and brokers and a team of support staff and assistants. They also employ a full time marketing and graphics team that maintains the company’s three websites: guamhome.com, guamliving.com, and todaysguamhome.com. Today’s Realty covers an array of real estate services including real estate brokerage rentals and sales, property management, homeowner association management, consulting, and home staging. The team is a diverse multilingual group with Chamorro, English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Dutch, and Filipino language speakers. “One of the founding principles of the company was to continuously enhance the skill levels of its team members,” says Anthony Godwin, Today’s Realty Principal Broker. “Real Estate associates with the firm meet as a team for more than 8 hours a month to discuss various topics that affect the market locally as well as nationally. Smarter Agents bring faster results.” Much of the company’s technology is now cloud-based, giving agents and staff the time to focus on client needs using the most advanced tools in the industry. The company completed a six month conversion from a local computer-based system to a fully automated and integrated online property management system. “We will continue to enhance our systems and tools to provide efficiencies to our team members that will result in the opportunity for them to spend more time with our valued clients and customers,” says Godwin.
SAM ROSEWOOD With over 30 years of experience under his belt, Sam Hsu is an expert in manufacturing, repairing and selling rosewood furniture. From 1996 to 2008, Hsu was the exclusive distributor of rosewood furniture for the Navy Exchange in Guam and in other countries including Iceland and Sicily. “For 30 years, rosewood furniture was very popular in Guam but then it decreased because the prices doubled and then tripled,” says Hsu. “But prices are stabilizing now and rosewood is starting to regain popularity.” Sam Rosewood carries handmade rosewood furniture that “will last a lifetime, even in Guam’s heat and humidity,” according to Hsu. “I just repaired a rosewood chair that is 25 years old. It looks new,” he says. Sam Rosewood opened for business on April 1, 2016 and is located at 1056 N. Marine Corps Drive, next to Nissan Motors in Upper Tumon (the old Sears building). Sam Rosewood is open Monday to Saturday 10AM-6PM and Sunday 1PM-6PM.
