New Year Resolution
For the coming New Year, let’s just forget the word ‘diet’. The buzzword these days is ‘lifestyle change.’ ‘Diets’ are designed to be temporary, but their results can also be, unfortunately, temporary. For the coming new year, you can have a sustainable new year’s resolution, with a new lifestyle — a new mindset, new habits, and a new body — without too much effort and sacrifice. The Paleo lifestyle is sustainable, according to nutrition professional Jesse Rosario. “As a nutrition professional for over 10 years I’ve tried every diet possible to try and understand which diets work and which don’t. I’ve found that the real problem was dieting itself. So when I started reading about Paleo I liked that it focuses on sustainability rather than a 30-day or timed eating plan. The biggest benefit to me is that it’s sustainable and very easy to adopt into your personal life. That’s the message I try and help my customers understand. It’s shouldn’t be a diet. Let’s make it a lifestyle.” And it seems that his customers are understanding very well. The Boka Box, which he opened in Hagatna early
this year, has been receiving and sustaining subscriptions to their meal prep service, which offers Paleo-based meal plans that help people establish a solid nutrition foundation. No doubt, the benefits of decreased blood sugar and cholesterol levels, weight loss and overall increased energy and well-being have kept them coming back. Paleo is sustainable because it has existed forever, according to Jessie. Cultures around the world have always focused on eating vegetables, fruits, and proteins, and on eating fresh. The only difference is that Paleo stays away from grain, dairy, bean products and refined sugars — and definitely eschews processed and canned products that are loaded with chemicals and preservatives that do harm to the body. Sounds doable enough. Why not try a couple of these simple Paleo recipes from The Boka Box to kick start your New Year? This may be your first step towards a ‘lifestyle change’ and a Paleo New Year!
Paleo Brownies made with Cassava Flour Paleo Almond Butter Cookies (as a substitute for Peanut Butter Cookies) 1 cup All-natural almond butter 1/2 cup Coconut palm sugar 1 Egg, beaten 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Mix all and bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 10 min.
1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped raw cacao powder - 1/2 cup pure maple syrup - 1/2 cup coconut oil - 1/3 cup eggs - 2 cassava flour - 1/2 cup vanilla extract - 2 teaspoons salt - 1/2 teaspoon baking soda - 1/4 teaspoon cacao nibs - 3 tablespoons Mix and bake in oven at 350 degrees for 18-20min.
