3 minute read
A Day in the Life
7:00 AM
My morning ritual starts with a short exercise or reading of around 30 minutes to an hour before work. Exercising and reading calms and clears my mind, and helps me get myself ready for the day ahead. While commuting to work, I listen to podcasts to keep myself updated with the latest news and happenings in the market.
9:00 AM
The first thing after arriving at the office is to get a cup of coffee! As I sip my morning brew and wait for the effects of caffeine to take place, I work on two tasks simultaneously. Firstly, I review the daily production performance to make sure production output is on schedule, and run through the summary of production key highlights over the past 24 hours. Secondly, I catch up on my emails, and send in replies or flag emails that may take longer to analyse and respond.
After finishing my cup of coffee, I quickly create a schedule for the day, including the tasks I intend to accomplish in between meetings. Outlook comes in handy, as I can add in tasks easily for different days, as well as mark flagged tasks as complete in order to clear them. This helps me keep track of my progress and important activities. This is also the time where my mind is most alert and focused. If there are no meetings scheduled, I make use of this time to work on complicated tasks, such as department performance analysis, strategy and roadmap planning, technical analysis, or even running simulations to support the analysis or planning activity.
12:00 PM
Po-Yu obtained both his Master of Science (Industrial and Systems Engineering), and his Bachelor of Engineering in Bioengineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2015 and 2011.
Depending on my schedule for the day, I may either go out for a quick lunch while catching up with different colleagues, or enjoy the company’s provided bento with my team. Lunch time is always great for team bonding!
1:00 PM
I favour face-to-face meetings, and if possible, would avoid carrying my laptop to meetings. This allows me to focus on the content of the meetings, and ensure that I don’t miss out any important details.
2:00 PM
The second half of the day starts with another cup of coffee. Contrary to my morning routine, I’ll meet with my Department Managers while consuming my coffee. Over the meeting, I get updates on the department’s progress, address any challenges encountered and also bring up other topics of interest. This is also a good time to exchange views on the department strategy planning or technical analysis outcome, and ensuring goals are always aligned.
4:00 PM
If I have spare time in the afternoon, or free time between meetings, I walk around the production line, either viewing from the corridor, or entering the clean room physically. Occasionally, I may engage in a quick conversation with my Team Leaders or Operators, in order to gain better insights of the happenings within production.
5:30 PM
At the end of the day, I look through the Outlook task list again to ensure that I’ve accomplished my set targets for the day. After that, I drop a message to the colleagues who I commute home with, and leave the office with them.
