A Day in the Life

9:00 AM

I try to reach the office a little before 9 AM so that I can catch a seat by the window – one of the joys of hotdesking. I’m on the 26th floor, and the view of the surrounding central business district (CBD) area is amazing! Next, it’s time to go through my emails and prep my agenda for the day. Sometimes, I head to the pantry for a quick breakfast and catch up with colleagues there, too.

11:00 AM

There are department meetings at least twice a week. It’s the time for teams to share their ongoing projects and activities, or even conduct short knowledge sharing sessions to upskill the rest of the department. They’re also great opportunities to learn and build cross-team synergies!

12:30 PM

Lunch! I usually pack meals from home and have lunch together with colleagues in the pantry. We have a really cool pantry with an equally nice view, and even a table tennis table. On occasion, we also head over to OCBC’s Recreation Club to play pool or sing karaoke during lunch.

2:00 PM

Being part of the Fintech and Ecosystem team, my role requires me to work with both external partners like fintech companies, and internal stakeholders across all business lines within OCBC. I work with our internal teams to explore opportunity areas and understand their pain points, and how innovative solutions can address these pain points. My team also come together on a weekly basis to discuss progress updates, brainstorm ideas and identify cross synergies. We provide strategic oversight to drive ecosystems strategy, build partnerships and champion the change.

4:00 PM

The next big job for the day is to source for innovative solutions that can uplift our tech infrastructure or drive transformation. I reach out to the relevant companies to do a preliminary assessment of suitability before involving internal stakeholders. It’s an exciting role as I get to understand various technologies and processes within the bank and the emerging trends in the market. It’s never the same thing twice, as there’s so much to see and learn about the broader picture within the financial services industry.

5:30 PM

It’s time to upskill! We have our very own OCBC Campus and learning platform, Campus on Cloud. Numerous training courses and materials are available for staff based on our interests. There’s a plethora of interesting courses for everyone, and no restrictions on what you can sign up for and invest in oneself.

6:00 PM

Ending the workday, I’m either off to meet family and friends for dinner, or for a quick workout. It’s always good to take some time off to relax. Work hard and play hard!
