A Day in the Life
5:00 AM
I usually start my day early to work out in the gym and meditate. I find that this helps to clear my mind and gives me the mental clarity and energy that will set the tone for the rest of my work day.
9:00 AM
When I’m in the office, I’ll buy takeout breakfast from the Bistro, a café in our office building. I usually spend the first part of the work day clearing any outstanding emails and catching up with my team. Amidst the morning office chatter, my team will also typically use this time to give updates on our current workstreams and to raise any issues that we may need help with. We use this opportunity to align ourselves with Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) larger strategies to evaluate which projects need to be prioritised.
11:00 AM
This is my first rotation with STB’s Wellness Team, and I assist with the planning of Wellness Festival Singapore (WFS) 2023. My responsibilities involve shortlisting programme proposals and evaluating the quality and impact of wellness experiences. Through this stint, I get to connect with colleagues from other STB departments and government agencies involved in the planning of WFS. It never fails to amaze me what a huge machinery the Government is, but I’m thankful for how at the end of the day, we always come together as One Public Service!
There’s never a dull day in STB as our workstreams span a diversity of issues across departments. As a Management Associate (MA), this gives me good exposure to broaden and deepen my knowledge on the core tourism pillars. Coming from a chemistry background, I appreciate the various avenues that STB provides to help me keep abreast of the everchanging demands in the market, be it on-the-job-training, or study sponsorships and courses.
1:00 PM
When I’m in the office, my colleagues make the effort to set aside at least one day to have lunch together as a team. Sometimes, my MA batch will also arrange a lunch outing if it’s our common office days. Ion Orchard is just a stone’s throw away given the recent opening of the TEL line outside Tourism Court, and there’s no lack of exciting food options along the “brown line”.
When I’m working from home, I’ll have lunch with my mum when she’s not at work. Otherwise, I spend lunchtime alone and I appreciate the alone time.
3:00 PM
Other than WFS 2023, I also catch up on other areas of work within the wellness team, as we constantly look to our industry partners to develop their wellness offerings with a tourism focus and impact. I liaise with various wellness-related stakeholders to assess both the wellness and tourism impact of their products and experiences, and decide how STB can step in to support their wellness offerings. This helps me to develop my business acumen and critical thinking skills, which are paramount in our engagement with the tourism sector.
5:00 PM
Outside of my Wellness work, I’m also part of STB’s employees-led recreation club known as Kucinta Club. In Kucinta Club, I’m in the Welfare and Privileges Team, and our team looks at how we can enhance the welfare offerings for STB Officers. My role is to help secure corporate benefits and experiences across sectors, such as dining, telecoms and lifestyle, for our officers. We recently organised our Chinese New Year event in the office where we had an energetic lion dance, a delectable Muah Chee live station and a visually striking Chinese calligraphy live station.
6:30 PM
As the work day comes to an end, I make a to-do list for the next day before knocking off from work. On some days, I head out with the other MAs for a catch-up dinner!
