Before coming to Georgia Tech, President Peterson served in positions such as the as Chancellor of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Executive Associate Dean of Engineering of Texas A&M University. President Peterson also has a strong background in engineering—holding a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M—so he too knows the pain that the students feel. He was officially named as the primary choice of Tech's Presidential Search Committee in February 2009 and took the position in April. President Peterson replaced former president G. Wayne Clough, who retired his position in July 2008 in order to serve as Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. President Peterson has high hopes for the future of Georgia Tech's President, G. P. "Bud" Peterson Georgia Tech, and he looks to continue several of the programs established by President Clough See pictures of GT NROTC at President Peterson's (such as the Tech Promise Program). Alternative Jet Fuels By: MIDN 4/c Boyce
“It isn’t going to be better than last semester.”
The United State's dependency on the middle east for fossil fuels is a threat to our national security. Part of the military's strategic plan is to reduce the dependence of fossil fuels within the military. The Air Force has conducted flight tests with synthetic fuels derived from coal and natural gas. Now the Navy wants to expand the effort to include fighter jets that are powered by "Biofuels," made from oilseeds. The Navy plans to fly these fighter jets within the next year. Since this is a recent improvement, there is a lack of information making test flights dangerous. This development of alternative fuel also opens up competition for other energy sources. The "Biofuel" will reduce our import of fossil fuels and increase the demand for oilseed crops in the United States. The oilseed crop is grown in arid parts of the western United States. The contracts to produce these Biofuels are worth more than 11 million dollars, producing over sixty thousand gallons of Biofuel. Soon the Navy will be flying jets with an alternative source of energy. The Navy's innovation is sure to make it to the private sector. ◊

“This semester will be more challenging because I will be teaching two classes—one of which I have never taught before, I will be taking three classes —one more than I took last year, I have thirty four Midshipmen to advise—I had only ten last year, and I have a wedding to plan. Once Ikpah gets here life should get easier. “ LT Hurd

R for strong graphic violence, language and brief sexuality. This movie has a little bit of everything, drama, comedy, suspense and action. Although gory at times it is well worth the money spent on the ticket. ◊
