Designed for excellence Cart paths of local volcanic stones, hand-laid. Greens irrigated by pre-existing, natural water channels. Hardwood bridges assembled from fallen timber. These 18 holes were already here, but were unearthed by the vision of David McLay Kidd, an award-winning course designer of international acclaim. Kidd’s eye for par and preservation brought the Guacalito Golf Course to life for players of all skill levels. And alive it is. With parrots, monkeys, birds of all colors, fruits, vines and everything beautiful. Each hole reminding players that once again, golf is sport. Because nowhere else can you hook a drive around the Tree of Life. Or surgically chip onto a beach green that taunts the ocean, only a few feet from the waters of high tide. Indeed, this course was born millennia ago.
Golfers begin their game just steps from Manzanillo Beach on the first hole, which is named “Genízaro” after the native tree that towers over the tee box. From here the course leads golfers away from the ocean as it meanders through the tropical coastal forest, incorporating dozens of natural arroyos, hillsides and the Manzanillo River. On several holes, golfers will cross hard wood and even a suspension bridge built by local craftsmen and pass under towering Guanacaste, Tamarindo and Mango trees where Howler Monkeys gambol in the branches. The seashore wrap up The 18th hole brings players back to the beach, so close that the 18th green dramatically abuts the sand. After wrapping their game, golfers can take off their shoes and cool their feet in the ocean.
Expansive practice range Guacalito Golf Course also features an expansive practice range, a state-of-the-art pro shop with rental clubs and shoes and complimentary bag storage, new golf carts and a Golf Academy where golfers can fine tune their skills. In keeping with the family-friendly atmosphere of Guacalito de la Isla, the Guacalito Golf Course offers a SNAG Golf training games for children. Golfers will enjoy delicious food and Nicaragua’s famous cigars and Flor de Caùa rum at the Guacalito Golf Course Beach Club.
