VALIDA Babayeva
PHOTOGRAPHY
ARTIST STATEMENT My name is Valida Babayeva and I consider myself a selftaught photographer who is in the process of constant learning. Before exploring photography, I have been studying at Azerbaijan State Economical University and graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 2010. I have been volunteering for several years in different fields trying to find my voice, besides my “official” profession. So I think photography is the field where I felt more comfortable and interested in. To me photography is a pleasing challenge that motivates me the most. I was fond of photography from my early ages, but I never had a chance to explore it until the day when I bought my first professional camera. Currently my primary interests are documentary and portrait photography. Streets are the main source of my photographs. I enjoy taking pictures of people that I don’t know most of the times, yet I feel like I remember them for good. Sometimes I will meet them in the streets again and it feels as if I know them for so long, even though they don’t recall me. I believe that those ordinary people will continue to live in my photographs forever. The process of taking pictures sometimes involves small conversations with my subjects, and I see in their eyes the courage and desire to be the “famous star” even for a split of a moment and be remembered by a complete stranger, like myself. Besides that documenting events is another of my interest areas. Below are some photography projects that I was involved in and you will be able to see the samples within the pages of my portfolio.
