Search for Famous Guns of the Outlaws on GunBroker.com American outlaws are often thought of as folk heroes. Many had a signature weapon, from the classic Colt Single Action Army to the 1911 Colt. If you are looking for interesting weapons used by outlaws while browsing GunBroker.com, look for these firearms.

Jesse James: Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3 Jesse James, leader of the James-Younger gang, was a bank and train robber. One of the most famous outlaws, he gained sympathy from the American public despite his brutal crimes. The outlaw used a Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3 single action revolver, which used 45 Schofield rounds. Unlike many Wild West revolvers, it was a top-break that hinged open and had an automatic ejector. Because of this feature, the handgun was incredibly quick to reload. The Army eventually adopted the model. Billy the Kid: Colt M1877 Henry McCarty, also known as William H. Bonney and most famously as Billy the Kid, was an outlaw and federal fugitive for a good portion of his short life. A thief and cattle rustler, McCarty stole to survive. Unlike other outlaws, he did not target banks or trains. His firearm of choice was the 41 Long Colt model of the Colt M1877, a double-action revolver. Though fast to fire, the so-called Thunderer was slow to reload. It was an uncommon gun in the U.S., though Doc Holliday also used one. Bonnie and Clyde: Remington Model 11 and Browning BAR During the Public Enemy era between 1931 and 1934, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow traveled the U.S., robbing banks, small stores, and rural funeral homes. They also murdered at least nine police officers and four civilians. The Barrow Gang was famous during the Great Depression

until a posse of police officers ambushed the couple. Bonnie famously used a Remington Model 11 or Browning Automatic 5, the first semi-automatic Remington shotguns. Clyde used a Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR, hacked to be short and using custom-made 40-round magazines. He called it a “scattergun” as it scattered crowds. Pretty Boy Floyd: Colt M1911A1 Charles “Pretty Boy” Floyd saw widespread press coverage around the same time as Bonnie and Clyde. Often portrayed as a tragic figure thanks to the Great Depression, it was believed he burned mortgage documents to free others from debt. He had multiple shootouts with law enforcement, killing multiple officers. He was killed carrying two Colt M1911A1s, considered sophisticated firearms compared to revolvers of the time. One later sat on J. Edgar Hoover’s Wall of Shame. Butch Cassidy: Colt Single Action Army Butch Cassidy, real name Robert LeRoy Parker, was the leader of the Wild Bunch in the Old West. He and Harry “Sundance Kid” Longabaugh were famous for robbing trains and banks, eventually fleeing to Argentina and Bolivia when pursuing the Pinkerton detective agency. He used a Colt Single Action Army known as the “Amnesty Colt.” The gun he used was surrendered in October 1899 when he was tired of running, and he pleaded with the Utah governor for amnesty. The governor was willing to agree if Parker had no murder warrants. However, he did have murder warrants in neighboring states, so he fled to Argentina. While many of the guns on this list are still easily obtainable, you may want to search GunBroker.com for reproductions of the famed Peacemaker, such as the Ruger Vaquero.
