The Guns of Red Dawn You Should Search for On GunBroker.com If you are a film buff looking for new and used guns for sale on GunBroker.com, you might want to search for some of the same guns used in the Red Dawn movies. The original, from 1984, starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson, and C. Thomas Howell, while the 2012 remake featured Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Here are some of the iconic guns from both movies you can add to your collection.
Colt Single Action Army Jed Eckert (Patrick Swayze) used this famous Peacemaker film as his sidearm in the original film. Interestingly, the gun used in the film was a personal firearm from director John Milius. Smith & Wesson Model 66 Jed’s brother Matt (Charlie Sheen) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 66 during the final assault in the movie. It is also likely what Daryl (Darren Dalton) used in the first assault. Winchester Model 1912 and Remington 870 Wingmaster Robert Morris (C. Thomas Howell) uses a Winchester Model 1912 during the first encounter with the Soviets. Due to a continuity error, it changes to one of the most famous Remington shotguns later in the movie. He uses a Remington 870 Wingmaster, eventually cutting it down to make a short-barreled shotgun.
Marlin Model 336C Arturo “Aardvark” Mondragon (Doug Toby) uses a Marlin Model 336C before a UH 1 helicopter attacks the Soviets. He also uses it in the later ambush scenes. Ruger Model 77 Jed’s sniper rifle of choice was a 30 06 rifle. He picks up the Ruger Modell 77 Ultralight from Mr. Morris’ store at the film’s beginning. Robert later uses it to hunt. Valmet M78 Because of the Cold War, actual Soviet weapons were hard to find during the time of filming. A Valmet M78 stood in for the RPK that paratroopers use at the beginning of the movie. Later, Erica (Lea Thompson), Toni (Jennifer Grey) and Jed all use the M78. Browning Hi Power The Browning Hi Power sees a lot of use in the 2012 remake, with Pete (Steve Lenz) nearly killing Jed (Chris Hemsworth) with it. Jed then uses the same gun, as does Julie (Alyssa Diaz). Matt (Josh Peck) later takes it near the film’s end. S&W 59 Toni (Adrianne Palicki) uses an S&W 59 during surprise attacks on North Korean forces. Intratec TEC 9 and Cobray M11/9 The Wolverines use fully automatic TEC 9s during the training montage. Jed, Robert (Josh Hutcherson), and Daryl (Connor Cruise) later use them during an ambush. The training montage also sees the Cobray M11/9 in use, which Matt later uses during an ambush. Remington 700 and Winchester Model 1894 Matt and Jed use their father’s Remington 700 bolt-action rifle until they get better weapons. Toni and Daryl use it during the training montage, while Robert later hunts with it. The Eckerts also use their father’s Winchester Model 1894, and Daryl uses it during the montage. AKM and AKMSU The AKM was used in the original movie by Aardvark in the famous “Wolverines!” scene, and it is also heavily featured in the remake. They are modified to resemble AK 103s for the film. Multiple Wolverines use it, while Jed uses a captured AKMSU after an ambush.
Colt M4A1 Carbine SgtMaj. Andrew Tanner (Jeffrey Dean Morgon), Sgt. Hodges (Matt Gerald), and Cpl. Smith (Kenneth Choi) all use the M4A1 as their primary firearm. FN M249 SAW Robert’s preferred firearm in the second half of the film is the SAW. He recreates the original “Wolverines!” scene with it. Then, near the end of the film, he gives it to Daryl.
