What’s dwelling? Traditional dwelling or an contemporar y one? Must a strangers share these dwelling? What’s a nomadic lifestyle? Here, a space designed to accommodate one of the most well connected and international community, the new nomads. Leaning toward international cities, a contemporar y setting for maximum interaction. The challenge here is to insert an contemporar y human into a traditional world, retaining the proximity to the tradition of while providing a space that allow the occupant to carr y out their immediate creative operation. But, how to navigate this incredibly dense neighbourhood? Can going underground ever be an option?
04
To explore the possibility here, the housing retains the original footprint of a typical courtyard house found in a typical Beijing’s Hutong and take whatever left to generate a void which will then ser ve as a director of the space below.

Light becomes less accommodating as we go underground. By appropriating the light, a hierarchy is created vertically. Sound produced in each space then organise the adjacency horizontally
10
_WORKING ARCHIVE | 2014-2018_
A simple light analysis is done to the void, estimating the amount of light that each locus would provide if the soil around it were to be removed. Explosive are then put in strategic location within
the underground space, referring its position to the criteria of each program. This resulted in a continuous container of fluid space underground. Now a subtle insertion of an foreign community is then accomplished allowing the underworld to exist as a opposition to the space above - becoming a ‘Mirrored Polarity’

THE HINDU TIMES A Matter of Style
Instructor: Peter Fisher, Design Studio Jan-May 2016
_WORKING ARCHIVE | 2014-2018_
Publication: INDA Ne wsletter 2015 2016
The project analysed the core principles, both visually and conceptually, of the Hindu-Indian architecture orders and translated these into a set of remade architecture elements by employing modern construction techniques and materials. Can we question why something had been built in such way? Or rather can it be build in another matter while representing the same principle? A number of experimentation had been done to alter how modern material perform. This includes the different casting methods and experiments on tensile materials.
12
To challenge the style further, the different elements were incorporated and combined with broader ideas and principle into a type of ‘canonical building’ : a petrol station.

Exhibition: INDA Parade 2016 When discussing about architectural ideas of Rem Koolhaas and the architectural firm OMA, it can be difficult to classify the buildings as they do not belong to any particular style - visually there’s a lack of consistency in the work. However this lack of consistency is just the formal qualities, the conceptual qualities is another stor y… There is writing of architecture and writing as architecture, in many of the early work of Koolhaas the writing exist long before the actual architecture, this is why today OMA works closely to its research counterpart AMO. It occurs to Koolhaas that the actual architecture is irrelevant if the process is though thoroughly - its context, user, programs, circulation, because in the end a characterless architecture is just a “Junkspace”.
20
The project is dedicated to cracking the architect’s code and the process of how the Rem Koolhaas design and respond to different context presented.

The Framework Despite the formal inconsistency in Koolhaas’ work, Could there be an alternative approach that is not presented do visually. Assuming Koolhaas use writing as a tool to direct form.
22
A grasshopper script is written to translate text types into grids and volumetric framework, complying texts of Koolhaas, and generate them into a singular block of program then composed the adjacency of programs within the framework which can be further use to further develop an architectural project on.

ing the main spaces surrounded by stairs, Ramps as the main circulation. Emphasising on the idea of context and user, interaction between people in the organisation is crucial. Ramps allow people to circulate through the spaces but at the same time interact with others passing by.
“Rem was designing the office, not designing the building, He was designing the infrastructure that would allow building projects and research to happen”. The context is so critical the exterior form can be said to not be of any relevance, It can turn out nice, iconic or even plain right ugly

Supernature or the extremity of things, the project seeks a hypothetical design of the act of regeneration or ‘to bring into new existence’. One of the geographical characteristic of Bangkok is the Chao Phraya River cutting down the middle of the city. Toward the banks surrounding the Rattanakosin Island stands multiple temples and palaces housing some of the oldest structures of Bangkok.
26
The regeneration scheme consist of an archipelago down the Chao Phraya river into a public platform. Taking reference from cur vature of the old soaring structure, the stupas and turning them into a completely new structure. Referring to a set of photograph by Andy Day, documenting parkour practice on architectural war monuments. This piece is a reinterpretation in that matter.

SENSING WATER
Site-Specifically Beautilitarian
Instructor: Chutayaves Sinthuphan, Bea Vithayathawornwong Design Studio Jan-May 2018
_WORKING ARCHIVE | 2014-2018_
Publication: Reseach Book (Site -Specific Beautilitarian: Bangkok & Mumbai )
Site specifically beautilitarian architecture refers to the beauty aspect surrounding utilitarian elements. The project studied the drainage elements around Yaowarat district in comparison to a case study in Mumbai where the each type are categorised into different systems: down-spout, open pipes, gutters, retention pools Rather than designing a piece of drainage equipment, this approach integrate the entire drainage system into a shop house as a part of the architecture, acting as a water retention system, as well as a recreational space that could only be access by the resident living in this row of shop-houses via the rooftop access.
34
The project seeks to explores different conditions on the space during rainfall and how water reacts with the ‘drainage system’, changing and evolving the space with time. Celebrating the act of falling water instead of concealing it, revealing its effects on materials the senses of the person experiencing it. It is system that provokes different spacial feeling with rainfall - drizzles, downpour and so on. Resulting in an ephemeral space to be experience.

_WORKING ARCHIVE | 2014-2018_
Instructor: Naiara Vegara, Marie -Isabel de Monseignat-Lavrov, Katya Larina. Design Studio Aug-Dec 2017 AA Visiting School Almeria as a region is recognised by its remarkable amount of plastic greenhouses. So much it’s touching the edges of national parks and cities. In other word it’s at maximum capacity. With growing demands, plastic hydroponic farming must become more efficient. The project analysed the existing infrastructure that support research and development of greenhouse studies. To no surprise the number of research facility in the area is equiproportional to the number of greenhouses.
42
As part of a master plan to grow Almeria Seaport, a research centre in collaboration with the existing passenger arrival port is to be situated on the waterfront to not only grow research on plastic greenhouses but also introduce new jobs which will attract young people and businesses to the area.

The Act of inversion. When the first camera was invented, we recorded the world in its inversion. The play of light created an illusion of a 3 dimensional world in a 2 dimensional plane. How do we record the world within its true medium? Using a Lidar scan of AA’s Hooke Park, the area of forest is inverted and 3d printed, manipulated, installed into the forest, photogrammetrise and digitally re-inverted. The inversion is represented through an old analogues camera which had been transformed through the new world methodologies.

The aim of this workshop is to design and construct a functional enclosure for INDA’s new CNC router and a guidebook of best practices to use and maintain the machine. The CNC will in the future be a part of a much larger INDA LAB including a wider array of fabrication machines. You will be the pioneers of that lab, laying the foundations for generations of INDA students to come. The partitions are design without any nail or glue and played a crucial part in dividing the room and store the essential tools for model making and fabrication work.

THE ERRATIC MONOLITH Rammed Earth Sculpture
_WORKING ARCHIVE | 2014-2018_
Instructor: Jason Orbe Smith Design Experimentation Workshop 2017
The erratic monolith is a foreigner in the landscape. The object sits distinct and separate from its environment while simultaneously captivating its surroundings, a powerful object of individual expression and novelty. Massive silhouettes shift and move, changing with ever y viewpoint, creating complex relationships within their context. Oscillating between cracked and sleek, assured and polished, their messy interactions offer unusual and unexpected moments of formal resolution. Disconnected from their origins, how do these sojourning bodies affect change within their new environment?
56
How does their presence shape the movements and relationships of the world around them?

Design Build for Community 2017 Rising up as a mountain from the surrounding farmland, the Mae Ku Learning Centre is a monument to education located near the Thai border with Burma. The Mae Ku Learning Centre is designed as a mountainous, monolithic object nestled in amidst the adjacent fields and echoing the mountains of Burma on the horizon. Playful, massive shapes are assembled together for children to engage and explore. Natural, locally sourced materials are used throughout the building to integrate the object within its surroundings. The centre is visible from afar, an enticing culmination to the long distance that many students travel to come to school.
58
The construction of the Mae Ku Learning Centre emphasises natural materials and sustainable building practices. The building’s rammed earth walls respond to the environment and use their thermal mass to produce a steady and pleasant interior temperature. Passive cooling through the building is provided by open breeze ways and the exterior bamboo skin. The natural lighting of the interior allows the building to use virtually no electricity during the day. The bamboo skin’s shading of the interior walls helps to maintain a comfortable ambient environment. The bamboo used is a locally available, renewable resource that protects the earth walls while adding to the building’s character and interior volume.
