PROLOGUE In the light of my enthusiastic about Art and Natural Landscape, I chose Landscape Architecture Design as my major to pursue the connection between human architecture and natural landscape. With in-depth understanding and learning, I realize landscape design is not only just about the design of environment space, but also maintains the link between nature and human balance. Absorbed in this major, I acquired more motivation to learn and explore the city renewal and ecological restoration in this field. As shown in my portfolio, my design attempts to connect and combine nonlinear objects in the space, so that they can grow together, and achieve the goal of enriching the experience and levels of the whole work, shaping a more diversified environment. I would love to establish a studio dedicated to urban environment renewal and ecological restoration, standing out from the commercial companies and contribute myself to the landscape architecture worldwide. In order to fulfil my career dream, I have been striving for success all the way through. As a senior student of Central Academy of Fine Arts, I was fully exposed to the needs of the landscape design profession and had a good command of professional skills in workplaces, especially on how to complete the identification of landscape and pay attention to the excavation of urban and natural context. During my undergraduate, the architecture courses of the first two years laid a solid foundation for my subsequent design. After entering the landscape architecturee design courses in the third grade, I have a comprehensive understanding of the major and focus on the comprehensive application of excavated cultural elements into landscape design, which was shown through my several academic projects like Beijing Shuangxiu Park Renovation Design, Microspace Creation for Old Communities,etc. I believe all I have mastered and experienced will play a role on my way of further study and life long learning. With my career dream and ambition, I would like to seek more professional knowledge in the United Kingdom so that I can gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the discipline of landscape architecture and the related profession.

01 RECONSTRUCT MARKET BOUNDARIES RENOVATION OF LOS ANGELES DISTRIBUTION MARKET Type: Personal Work / Architecture Design Location: Los Angeles, U.S.A Duration: 07.2018-08.2018 Instructor: Lingzhe Wang

Alameda produce market is located near downton. It was formerly the LA terminal market built in 1917 and used to be the pivot of fresh goods across the area. It is still continuing the previous function as a market for the distribution of agricultural products. The market is open to everyone for six days a week. A market fair is held on Sunday. The site is rarely visited apart from being the weekend market fair. Its spatial environment is greatly different from the surrounding ROW DTLA. The design intends to renew the inner market and continue the original fresh food transactions while integrating different types of business space to attract different groups of people here to activate this area.


SITE ANALYSIS

Until 1923, with more buildings and factories, this site was latter called as Alameda produce market. The vast majority of fruit and agricultural trade took place there.

THE HISTORY OF THE SITE This outdoor market covers 5 acres and was founded in the fall of 1917, known as the Los Angeles Terminal Market. It is located on the side of Central Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue and flanked by two long buildings to serve as a central market for wholesale products. STEP 1

STEP 3 The historic LA Terminal Market has become the Seventh Avenue Agricultural Market at present. The market remains the main hub for agricultural products distribution, which is open to everyone every Saturday and taken over by Smogasburg on Sunday.

The plane is divided into outdoor and indoor space. The interior space contains main roads and commercial space on both sides. In this space, different types of commodity transactions mix with together. There are also a few greening leisure space inside, where people can rest at the same time.


The combination of open and semi-open shops in space brings visitors a variety of shopping experience. The main road is distributed with different-scale greening leisure areas to provide the rest space for the shopping people.

The semi-open shops are designed based on the shapes of the main roads. It combines a walk-in store for simple food sales and semi-open grocery sales daily.

There are fresh food stores and restaurants at the entrance. People can enjoy all kinds of delicious food when shopping. Meanwhile, there are all places for people to have meals inside and outside the restaurants.

VERTICAL DESIGN The roof structure is designed on basis of plane. The distribution of beam and column network and the roof structure are determined according to the distribution of plane function. Stores are distributed between the column network. The whole structure forms a semi-open space.

A quadrilateral mesh system with continuous members, which is bolted, screwed or welded together at nodes. The biggest advantage of the shell is that it is easy to manufacture.

The whole structure produces vertical ups and downs according to the function of internal space, which makes people have different levels of experience. The panel between the beams is made of translucent materials, which make the internal space have better lighting effect.

02 THE MEMORY OF COAL MINE RECONSTRUCTION OF ABANDONED COAL MINES IN THE POSTINDUSTRIAL ERA Type: Personal Work / Architecture Design Location: Shanxi, China Duration: 03.2019-04.2019 Instructor: Jimmy With the industrialization and urbanization, resource-based areas contribute greatly to the national economic development. However, with the development and utilization of resource, these cities confront the over production capacity problem at present and their economic development gradually stagnate. Taking industrial transformation is the primary problem that these resource-based areas are facing with. The site is located in Wanbailin District, Shanxi Province. The uncontrolled mining of coal mine has caused serious ecological damage and left a large number of coal mine wasteland there. Under the background of the post-industrial city area, the design intends to retain the landscape of some wasteland and designs a commemorative country park to attract the surrounding residents to play here and carry out the exhibitions of popularization of science about industrial land at the same time.

The museum is connected to the terrain of the site and the external space retains the original appearance of the waste mining land.

03 THE OASIS PARK DESERTIFICATION CONTROL AND THE REVIVAL OF ECOLOGICAL CHAIN Type: Personal Work / Architecture Design Location: Shanxi, China Duration: 04.2020-05.2020 Instructor: Siteng Xu Desert environment is one of the most serious environmental problems in the world. According to the results of the fifth national desertification and desertification monitoring, China is one of the countries having the most desert resources and the most serious desertification phenomena. Faced with the threat of desertification, the construction of desert parks and renovation of desert landscape play a positive role in controlling desertification environment, promoting desert tourism and regional economic development. This project is located in the Gobi Desert of Guazhou City, Gansu Province, where desertification is more serious. The design combines the local climate environment and cultural customs to design a large eco-tourism park. It not only satisfies the demands of tourism and agricultural cultivation, but also improves the ecological environment of the region and promotes the sustainable development of local economy and ecology.

Gansu Province is located in the interior of northwest inland with relatively serious land degradation and desertification. It destroys the ecological environment, exacerbates poverty and damages the social stability.

DRYING SQUARE

Due to the climate conditions, the local farmers dry the fruit and grain after harvest and then sell them. In order to lower the cost, the villagers make the drying tools by themselves. Dried fruits such as dried cantaloupes will be sold at the farm produce fair to increase the family income. 04 RECOMBINATION PROTECT AND GIVE NEW LIFE TO THE ABANDONED CHURCH Type: Personal Work / Architecture Design Location: Shanxi, China Duration: 11.2020-12.2020 Instructor: Lingzhe Wang

Chiesa Diruta is a Catholic church, built in the 15th century and in Grottole (MT) to receive local community of clergy and become one of the most important churches for bishops. It has suffered lots of damage due to earthquakes, fires and building problems, and been abandoned quickly. The design intends to reconstruct the abandoned church to create a space used for drama or music performance and retain the original relics at the same time. Through the design, it not only can preserve local residents’ memory of the church, but also become an art center to attract residents and tourists to gather here, which brings visitors different spatial experience.


THE HISTORY OF THE SITE In 1508, a pre-existing parish church became the new St.Luca and St. Giulian Church and set up a priestly community there. In the 16th and 17th centuries, many interventions were made on altars and decorations, which changed the appearance of the church. Since the 17th century, the earthquake greatly damaged the church and the church gradually collapsed in subsequent decades. In the early 19th century, this church were totally abandoned and named after the “Chiesa Diruta” (The Fallen-church) in vernacular. In 1985, the other collapses occurred. Then, lots of repairs were carried out in the subsequent years to protect the church, but the church was not reused.

The overall structure of the church is preserved relatively well. The walls on both sides of the east and west have different degrees of damage.

The stage is chose to design in the vertical space with relatively great height difference. The performance’s appeal is enhanced through the light and space.

According to the main entrance and stage, the auditorium is divided into two parts and the middle forms a pedestrian passage.

The auditorium is designed faced with the stage, which is divided into two layers to form the differentheight performance experience.

Based on the morphology, the stepped auditorium is designed and the two layers are connected together by the staircases.

The interior and exterior roofs of the site are connected to form a tour route surrounded the relics.

By virtue of the original conditions of the relics, the tour routes and viewing platform are designed around the original walls.

B The main functions are divided into theater and musical performances and viewing space and archaeological viewing space. The stepped viewing and performing space is divided into different heights, so that the audience can see the stage at different angles at the same time.
