wave//individual beach footwear Case: Creating a product based on rapid prototyping as the form of manufacturing. The product should benefit the market, either because of unique qualities due to the production method, or because of the customization potential based on the buyer’s demand.
idea
A website service where people may choose their own footprints on a given type of shoe. Color combinations are also customized to ensure shoes with individual attitude. The shoe is printed in flexible rubber and the texture contributes to the material properties. 5
With the help from a Z-Corp 3D scanner, this model of my foot was made. The shoes were drawn in CAD software and tested on the 3D foot model before being printed.
Different shapes and textures were tested to get the best fit. The shoe has a flexible inner shape and a reinforcing sole where the relieff is printed.
6
web service On the main website you can either choose to “make your own wave” or “surf other waves”. The latter is a library of existing models submitted by other users of this service.

snitt//refreshing bottle drink
(norwegian) meaning both section, cut and is also the designation of a smaller amount of drink.
8
Case: To make a blow moulded plastic bottle of 2 dl. The contents consist of a tonic water and grape fruit juice blend. The drink has a distinctive bitter and mature taste. This should be communicated in the shape, and the bottle must stand out in its category. 9
sketching
The process of shaping the bottle were approached with the use of both 2D and 3D modelling tools. Car clay provided a correct indication on how the given volume filled different shapes, and how they fit the hand. 3D software and rapid prototyping made it possible to examine details, and compare them to each other.
10
tekst
Production: The given method of production was injection blow moulding. The design had to meet requirements such as: rounded corners, a mid-axis around which the shape is more or less symmetrical, and also a neck for transporting the bottle at the bottler, amongst others. 11
A “pull and break bottle cap is chosen to make the drink accessible for most people. It also makes the bottle stand out among other bottles, and adds an exclusive touch. The small volume justifies not being able to close the bottle once opened.
The upper section of the bottle is slightly tilted. This is done to create a shape that changes when it is seen from different angles, and also to signify the edgy taste.
The front is cut to get a flat area suited for labelling. This also makes another possible exposition of the bottle, resting gently on the ground. The brand is still reckognizable because of the unique main shape and logo on bottle cap. 12
Summer edition with limited labels. The motives are summery and delicate.
The main shape is an extruded section of a citrus, and is therefore adaptable to other varieties within a product line. 13
tactility
One of the challenges in this case was to balance the limited volume in a shape that fits the hand properly. The tactile surface ensures a good grip, and makes the bottle recognizable. The imitation of a citrus fruit makes a striking play with lights and shadows.

lightspeed//bicycle rim with light Case: To design lighting elements by the use of extruded aluminum. This could be both indoor and outdoor lighting, and the case is not limited to lamps.
concept A true “fix is picky on the details. Aesthetics comes before safety. Most existing solutions on bicycle light are visible in a non-desired way and the components often affect the maneveurabilities. Lightspeed is a bike rim with aesthetic qualities, making it more visible in dark surroundings. The induction principle behind the concept leaves no use for batteries or impractical components attatched to the bike. Lightspeed makes use of the existing components, and adapt them into a unique rim with a circuit powering ligths as you ride.
18
structure
The hub consists of a magnetical core surrounded by copper wire. When the wheel spins, electricity is thus created. A capacitor is connected to the hub and distributes the electricity going out through a hollow spoke. The circuit around the rim has eight connected LED-diodes, and electricity is lead back to the hub through a hollow spoke corresponding to the spoke leading the current on the opposit side.
19
The light from each LED-diode is emitted through five circular holes in the rim. They are delicate, discrete when unused, and inexpensive to produce.
The cross section of the rim is a deep and rounded V-shape. After the extrusion, the aluminium is bent and welded. Holes for spoke nipples and the bike lights is easily drilled right into the aluminum on both sides at a time to save production costs. 20

22
customization
The aluminum rim can be anodized in a wide range of colours, depending on the customers wishes. The two spokes containing the electrical conductor are always marked with a color contrasting the other spokes.
23
momento//high quality coffe machine
24
Case: To design a coffee machine that preserves the taste of roasted quality coffee beans for use in private kitchens. The machine is adressed to people around the age of 50 who are changing their habits and becoming more conscious of what distinguishes a good cup of coffee from an average one. Momento was a collaboration with Tina AlnĂŚs, Harald Herman and Johan Eide.
market analysis
Interpreting the results from questionnaires completed by people fitting in the target group gave a few guidelines for desired festures. Among them were the possibility to make two cups simultaneously and add foamed milk. Furthermore, the machine should be easy to operate and clean.
focus group
The first model (right) was presented in a focus group half-way in the project. The main reaction was that it looked clean and exclusive. Most of the persons could see it fit in their kitchen. However, they agreed the shape should be more clearly defined and tightened up in the back.
26
main shape
The main shape of the coffee machine has some of the qualities found in traditionally italian espresso machines. More important, however, is that the machine can be placed next to a wall on both sides, as all the operations are accessible in the front. Visible coffee beans and the metal wrapping around the machine serve both functional as well as aesthetic qualities.
paper prototyping
Mockups with varied panels helped determine which angle was best suited for both tall and less tall persons. The height of standard kitchen cupboards also played a matter for the proportions and angles of the machine to get a clear view. 27

where the magic happens
Making an excellent cup of coffee depends on several parameters. The ones concerned with the brewing process are the most difficult ones to master, and also the most critical ones for ensuring a good result. The part where milk is mixed with the coffee is an area of experimentation where amateurs are more likely to succeed, and also the finishing detail allowing everyone to feel like their own barista.
29
quality ensuring Momento provides a wide range of coffee beans roasted and packaged especially for the coffee machine. The symbol shown on the back of the coffee bag is the same as on the machine, making the grinder tuning more precise and user friendly.

- an exhibition in Botanical Garden Case: Create a playful consept based in Oslo, and develop a brand identity. This concerns attitudes, approaches to the audience, layout in touchpoints, and other relevant material. Both products, visual identity and interaction, should be thouroghly incorporated.
urbane dyr//outdoor exhibition
name
would you like to come home with me?
Urbane dyr means “Urban Animals in english, and is a title suitable for the project in several ways. The most obvious reason is the central location of Botanical Garden in Oslo. The animals in the exhibition lives here as well, but the name also tells the story of how well organized and human-like many these animals actually live.
32
concept
Constructions made by animals are extremely fascinating. As human beings, we tend to forget the amazing work other creatures accomplish, and the fact that we have a lot to learn from them. This exhibition aims to excite the audience (both children and adults) by letting them explore animal constructions in human proportions.

Lighting and sound: Some of the cells in the honeycomb structure is covered with endpieces. These are made with LED-plexiglass, which is energyefficient and easy to program. The covered cells imitates nature, and is also a clever way to hide speakers for soundeffects. 36
visual identity
The visual identity consists of a main logo used together with illustrations, but each animal has also got their own logo used in marketing and souvenirs. Each logo is bearing their animal’s given color, which make them easy to tell from one another.

web
The website www.urbanedyr.no conveys all the information about the exhibition itself, and activities being arranged at the Botanical Garden. The interface is developed especially for children, but the winking animals will steal an adult’s heart as well. Each animal is also a button leading to a menu where you either can choose to play games, get more information about the animal and their constructions, or watch videos, to mention a few of the activities available on the website.

fam irvoll//shoe collection The shoe collection was made for Norwegian fashion designer Fam Irvoll for her show at Oslo Fashion Week spring 2011. The 18 pairs of shoes are made in collaboration with Vibeke Skar. Fam Irvoll gave us her ideas and color themes for the collection and left us with a lot of creative options.
Half of the models were carved out in cibatool by a CNC milling machine, and the other half was modeled in clay.
