Making of corners
Combining elements of construction to create an atmoshpere of life
This is a serie of images about seeing architecture through drawings of corners. Draw. Translating the drawing to architecture. Then draw again. This is not about construction, it is about atmosphere from looking at the construction and imagine what it can make for the architecture.
Villa Brussels
Reference. Typology. Context. Parallel. A house is designed in two contexts: Ostend and Brussels. Context as venue but also context as typology. Design is not just an issue of space but also an issue of making. How detail, complexity and materiality make spaces, make a house. Learning about a house means learning to do architecture. The text is reduced from the drawings so the observer have the possibility to just experience what you see. Maybe to give an imagination to what the architecture could be. The scale of the drawings is set from the everyday objects that have been added to give a hint on what life could be like. Enjoy. Gustav Wallerius, fall 2014

Study of corners in Belgium
Sketches of corners in two houses
Villa Brussels is located in the park of Zavelenberg. A rural site surrounded by an urban context with dwellings, malls and the church of Koekelberg. The context in the park is fields, trees, sheep and cows. You enter through a thick walled tower, and you circle the first floor around a comunication tower. Moving up you have room for sleeping. In one of them, in the entrence tower, while you lay in bed looking up you see the grass surrounding them. Moving further up you have a sacred space where you have the view of the church. A place where the crocus can flourish in easter. A place to put your fish bowl.
Ostend is the Malaga of Belgium, with a beach and an urban development that mainly are focused on turism. The house are distant from an office tower by a wide pedestrian street that leads to the beach. To enter you sneak around a bike bench and a palm tree, indoor you meet a collection of space with different purposes, gathered for a life in a row house in Ostend. A place to drink a glass of white wine. A place to put your flip flops after a sandy day.
