A great Guyanese activist and academician
I have known Dr Bisram as a well-known academician, political analyst, writer, and activist, not only in Guyana, but internationally. His activism and his experience in academia in different fields, writing volu minously and delivering lectures in several universities around the globe is unparalleled.
In the 1970s and 1980s, his colleagues and he coined the terms “Little Guyana” in New York, “Guyanese diaspora,” “Indian diaspora,” “Trinidad ian diaspora” and “Caribbean diaspora” that represent the communities to institutionalize the concept of diaspora. These terms are now in vogue.
Dr Bisram is also known for his election analytical skills in Guyana, USA, and the Carib bean. In addition, he has kept his feet on the politics in the Indian sub-continent. He has written on India affairs. His trips to India and through his work with Indian diaspora organizations, he helps to keep the roots intact
In his academic achieve ments, as I learn, he enrolled in 1977 at age 17 in City College of City University in New York, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Pre-Medical Studies and also completed the major in Political Science. The fallacy of generali sation is a dangerous game to play. The reason is that it repudiates logic and truth, the very fabric of a free and fair society. Holder prompts that the persons selected for the oversight committee who have some association with the PPP/C Government, not factually supported but mere speculation, will infringe on their abilities to carry out their appointed mandates. Not stop ping there, Holder goes on to further speculate that the Private Sector Commission favours the government.

Surely, his rather lengthy rant levels an egregious claim, why then is this not a matter of national concern? Why have the newspapers not outlined this as ‘breaking news’ and finally, why is it not having the traction as was the intention?

elucidate: the bogus claims are mere speculation, nothing grounded in hard evi dence is presented. Moreso, it speculates so heavily that it is tantamount to libel. However, what can one expect from the opposition? It is quite a shame since this party often reiterates the need to represent a section of society, yet, its repulsion for logic, reason, and truth is indicative of the dogma that drives this broken machinery.
Secondly, Holder unabash

In his lat est position at the University of Guyana as Professor of law, I can only imagine the awe in which he was held by those who benefitted from his tute lage. l know that the university will ever record an inadequate appreciation for his wise coun sel and advocacy for the eleva tion of the Faculty of Law and its graduates by Caribbean’s Council of Legal Education.
It was an inspirational ex perience to share the space with him in the senior man agement of the CARICOM Secretariat and to witness at first hand, the expansive na ture of his intellect, creative talents as CARICOM’s Legal Counsel and his role in the drafting of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
He will be greatly missed for his professionalism, wis dom and abounding wit. On behalf of the Council of the University of Guyana, I pay tribute to the life and service of the late Justice Pollard and extend deepest sympa thies to his family.
IT is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Jus tice Duke Pollard, a colleague and friend of many years. He was indeed a legal luminary, respected globally as much for his exceptional body of scholarly work in interna tional law, as for service to the United Nations and the CARICOM Community, the Caribbean Court of Justice as one of its inaugural ap pointees, and, more recently, as Professor of Law at the University of Guyana.

The committee also had the responsibility of determin ing its procedures which stands to reason, what other expenses would be aligned with such a committee and what obtains from such a practice. Today, the Loop, a nonprofit organisation, noted that at a public summer festival in the United Kingdom, the trade moved from fake ecstasy to higher potency party pills. HERE are four good reasons. One, it takes just under 4 min utes to read this article, and during that time, we want to evoke change in the negative way some grown-ups view children. Two, we hope that people will find the courage to call the Childcare and Protec tion Agency’s (CPA) Hotline (227 0979) if they know or suspect child abuse instead of turning a blind eye. Three, we think anyone reading this article will pass on relevant information to friends or fam ily members who will benefit from the content and subjects

By sharing stories and information, giving advice and highlighting issues, we aim to help adults learn ef fective childcare methods; and gain a better understanding of childBehaviouraldevelopment.change does not happen overnight; some
cherish children correctly. As a result, children suffer physical and sexual abuse daily - neglect by their loved ones and in some cases, abandonment. Although reports are brought to the atten tion of the CPA and investigated, many issues of child abuse re main unreported and undetected.
Equally as disturbing can be the lack of response from adults
who witness child abuse but fail to do their moral duty and make a report to the relevant authori ties. They convince themselves it is not their problem or they don’t want to get into ‘people’s story’. Sometimes they know the abuser and do not want any ‘backlash’ for opening their mouth, so they keep quiet and allow the abuse to continue. Most abused children suffer at the hands of people they know, and not strangers, as many as sume.Reporting child abuse is the moral obligation of all adults in Guyana and can be anonymous. There is no reason why someone should fear getting into trouble for reporting their suspicion or knowledge of abuse. Where there is a will, there is a way – civilised citizens would not sit by without trying to alert
authorities. Neither would they give up until they know that the child or children in question are safe. Children depend on the adults of Guyana to look out for them; they cannot protect
