soggy toes zine volume 2
So we made it to issue two... who would have thought. Anyway, most of my days this summer consisted of forgeting to bring my camera to the beach and regreting it when the boys started shreading. The following pages contain photos of the crew from the last couple of months. Thanks to everyone that helped out, gave me a bed to sleep on, some after surf munchies, or just a yarn on the beach. Especially West for sitting on the beach for 1000 surfs. The Kettle family for being more hospitable then a hospital, Keone at Billabong for keeping me warm in the water and Benny at RVCA for keeping me cool in da streets. And you for working half an hour out of your minimum wage job to buy it, you’re the real MVP...cheers.

I lived out at Murawai so everyone surfed, but I didn’t actually start until I was about 18. There were no crowds really, no pressure, it was bit of a commune though. We didn’t work too much, every now and then when we got hungry but you know. It was a lot more laid back but so was everything wasn’t it. We were a lot cooler than this lot, better style in clothing, music, cars you name it. But Issac has no fashion sense to start with but thats probably Josh and Seans fault isn’t it, they influence him a bit much, the other day he dyed his hair silver and painted his shoes to match.
Josh learnt to surf when he was 10 and Sean must have been 9, Issac just started last year he was always a bodyboarder. I’ll still go down to back beach for a play, the boys reckon I can’t surf anymore but I’ll show them where they stand. They all compete against each other to be as good as me. I don’t have a favourite out of the 3 but if you really want to know come and ask me when there not eves dropping.
Josh drinks the most, Wellington has destroyed him, his life been wrecked I’m going to sign him up for AA.
Poor Sean he can’t handle it, he has a couple and he’s rolling. He went out drinking one afternoon and fell over infront of a cop friend of mine who ended up having to drop him home in the paddy wagon. Sean vomitted right through the thing, looked as thought the police had gone 4 wheel driving with him in the back on the way home, unusual for Sean, but it was funny. I made him go down and clean the thing the next day.
Issac, has to borrow the boys drivers licenses so he can go to the night clubs but it’s such a small town the bouncers already know Josh and Sean so he doesn’t have a lot of luck there.
Handy having the boys being sponsored, they kit me out, Billabong, Ripcurl you know. Ripcurl’s been bit slack lately though. Sean walks in and piles up all the clothes and walks out, its good stuff they hardly wear it though. Not enough high fashion for them.
It’s good for the boys to move away from the Naki, they’ll be back when they’re broke and hungry, they’ll be back every summer because we’ve got the waves.
Couple filmys by West, on set for puberty blues or something.
