2024-25 fordham Rams
St. Bonaventure looks to maintain momentum from a convincing win over Dayton on Tuesday night and complete a season sweep of in-state rival Fordham after winning in the Bronx, 86-66, back on Jan. 4.
STARTING FIVE
• St. Bonaventure’s 75-53 win over Dayton earlier this week marked the largest margin of victory for the Bonnies ever against the Flyers. The Bonnies also held Dayton to a new season-low in scoring.
• Junior Lajae Jones drained a career-high six three-pointers vs. Dayton, going 6-for-10 from distance to finish with 23 points, just one off his career-best of 24 points set earlier this month vs. La Salle. He added seven rebounds and two blocks in Tuesday’s win.
• Bonnies head coach Mark Schmidt scored career win No. 400 on Tuesday, 318 of which have come with St. Bonaventure. Schmidt, Bona’s all-time wins leader, is one of 47 active Division I head coaches to reach 400 victories.
• The Bonnies had several standout performances in the win at Fordham. Melvin Council Jr. became the first player in Division I this season to post 24 points, eight assists and five steals in a regulation game as he dominated at Rose Hill Gym. Jones also had a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) while Jonah Hinton delivered 17 points and a career-best seven rebounds.
• Jones is shooting nearly 58 percent from beyond the arc in 11 games at the Reilly Center this season (26-45).
ABOUT FORDHAM
• The Rams rank seventh in the Atlantic 10 in points per game (75.8), but have struggled defensively, allowing 75.8 ppg which is 14th out of 15 teams in the
league, ahead of only Richmond.
• Fordham likes to run and score in transition – the Rams are 60th in the nation in fastbreak points at over 13 per game. Much of that comes off steals where the Rams rank third in the A-10 and top-85 in the country with eight swipes per contest.
• Senior guard Jackie Johnson III is not afraid to shoot – his 314 field goal attempts are the most by any A-10 player thus far and 25th nationally. That results in a lot of points – he’s third in the A-10 at 18.6 ppg. Johnson transferred from UNLV where he helped the Runnin’ Rebels to a quarterfinal spot in the NIT at 5.4 ppg.
• Graduate guard Japhet Medor (12.6 ppg) and junior forward Josh Rivera (10.4 ppg) are scoring threats as well. Medor is also fifth in the A-10 for assist-to-turnover ratio (2.19). Grad center Abdou Tsimbila ranked 10th in the A-10 last season in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and was 18th nationally with 2.3 blocks per contest.
• Six Rams scored in double figures Wednesday in an 88-72 win at La Salle, led by 15 points by Romad Dean and 13 from Matt Zona. Rivera tallied a double-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds. The Rams have been under the leadership of associate head coach Tray Woodall while head coach Keith Urgo has served a four-game suspension. Woodall served on staff at Bona’s from 2019-21 and helped the Bonnies to the 2021 A-10 Championship.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 52nd meeting between the Bonnies and the Rams.
St. Bonaventure leads the series 31-20.
The Bonnies had an 11-game winning streak vs. their New York State rivals dating from 2013-2023 until the Rams won three in a row, sweeping the 2023 season series and taking the first game at the Reilly Center last year. Bona turned things around with a dominating 85-67 victory at Rose Hill Gym last February, however, and won by 20 last month in the Bronx as well.
In all, the Bonnies have won 19 of the last 24 games vs. Fordham dating back to 2010. Fordham’s three-game winning streak was the longest for the Rams since Fordham captured seven straight matchups between 2005-08.

12 Atlantic 10 Tournament TBD
Welcome to "Behind The Bonnies," a new GoBonnies.com series where we get to know the student-athletes at St. Bonaventure University. In this edition, we meet Bonnies senior Chance Moore.
Senior Chance Moore has played his way into becoming one of the men's basketball teams premier players in his debut season with the Bonnies. Moore started the season off hot, scoring 18 points against CSUN, 27 points against Canisius and 18 points against Florida Gulf Coast in the first three games. Moore has scored double digits in 15 of the 21 games he's played in this season.
Moore earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors Nov. 11 after his opening week performance. Entering this week, Moore ranked sixth among all Atlantic 10 players and first among A-10 guards with 7.3 rebounds per game. Since 2000, only one Bonnies guard neared seven rebounds per game - Dominick Welch (6.9 rpg) in 2019-20. Offensively, he posted nearly 15 points per contest for the season.
Prior to arriving at St. Bonaventure, Moore played at Missouri State. While he was there, Moore started 20 of 31 games, averaging 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last year. Moore was one of the top Missouri Valley reserves as he was named to the MVC All-Bench Team after recording 10 points per game as a sophomore in 2022-2023.
As a freshman, Moore played at Arkansas. Moore played in five games in 2021-2022 and saw action in an NCAA Tournament win over New Mexico State during the Razorbacks' Elite Eight run.
In high school, Moore became a four-star recruit out of McEachern High in Powder Springs, Ga. Moore was the No. 97 overall recruit in the 2021 class per 247Sports composite rankings while being ranked the No. 5 overall recruit from the state of Georgia. Moore was a finalist for the Sports Illustrated All-American team and McDonald's All-American squad.
Favorite thing about playing basketball:
Competing and getting better
Why is St. Bonaventure a good fit for you? When I was on my visit, the teammates and the coaches seemed very welcoming and it seemed like a place I could thrive in.
Favorite Food: Either Alfredo or mac and cheese.
Hobbies: I like to travel, shop and I like playing chess.
Describe your game: A two-way player, I can score on all 3 levels. I can guard the 1-4 and I'm a very athletic player.
Favorite basketball memory? My sophomore year of college when I dunked on this guy from USC.
Plans after college? I would like to play basketball professionally, but besides that I would like to get into real estate and start my own business.
Describe your personality: I would say I am a laid back and chill guy. How does your basketball career help prepare you for a new team? Having gone through it already, I kind of know what to expect. You build bonds with guys the more you play with them and work out with them.
The GoBonnies.com Student-Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending Jan. 31 are men’s swim freshman Mark Mizsei and women’s basketball freshman Zoe Shaw.
Mizsei topped the podium three times for the Bonnies in their dominant victory over Colgate Saturday afternoon. His efforts helped the Bonnies to a 229-56 win in their final dual meet of the season.
The Budapest, Hungary native first recorded victory in the 200-fly, swimming a time of 1:49.29.
He also touched the wall first in the 100-fly with a time of 51.12 and the 500-free (4:45.28).
Mizsei and the Bonnies gear up for Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 19-22.
Shaw averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc over two contests last week for the Bonnies.
Wednesday at Saint Joseph’s, Shaw registered 19 points to go with six rebounds and four assists, finishing the game shooting 8-for-14 from the field.
She followed that performance with a new career-high of 22 points Saturday afternoon at Fordham. Shaw shot 9-for-14 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds in 38 minutes.
Shaw was selected as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season Monday afternoon.

Twenty-five years after its run to the NCAA Tournament, the 1999-2000 St. Bonaventure men's basketball team will be honored during today’s game. In addition, there will be a post-game reception in the Hall of Fame Room for the team that is open to the public.
Members of that team who are confirmed to attend are head coach Jim Baron, Tim Winn, Caswell Cyrus, David Capers, Peter Van Paassen, Patricio Prato, J.R. Bremer, Vidal Massiah, James Hayden, Bob Dziengeleski, Eric Siegrist, Elton Ruddock, Robert
Cheeks, and assistant coaches Joe Lombardi, Brian Nash and Pat Clarke. One of the program's best defensive teams ever, the Bonnies went 21-10 that season as they allowed just 64 points per game. St. Bonaventure posted non-conference wins over USC and Colorado State and went 11-5 in conference games to place second in the Atlantic 10's East Division. After wins over Dayton and Xavier, Baron's club advanced to the championship game of the A-10 Tournament. St. Bonaventure then earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where the Bonnies fell in a double-overtime heartbreaker to Kentucky in Cleveland, Ohio.
Winn and Cyrus, who were both seniors that year, earned All-Conference honors, Winn on the first team and Cyrus on the third team. Both players were also selected to the A-10 All-Defensive Team. Winn, Cyrus, and Prato also surpassed 1,000 career points.
Bremer, who was the team's "sixth man" as a freshman that year, went on to score 1,732 career points. Bremer earned NBA All-Rookie honors with the Boston Celtics and also played with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.
Today, Baron, Bremer, Van Paassen and Winn are all members of the St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame.
