A Little Library with a Big Mission
If you’re walking around in your neighborhood, you might spot one of these little structures popping up more and more. Inspired by the idea of “take a book, leave a book,” a Little Free Library is a booksharing box that is open 24/7, completely free and accessible to all! They function purely on the hono r system where anyone can take a book or share one. If you can, it is encouraged to try to leave a book in the same library if you take one or two, or in anot her in your area!
The first Little Free Library was built in 2009, an d by 2010 the trend had spread with a clear purpose: to share good books and bring communities together. Little Free Libraries support a love of reading, improvements in literacy, and free access to books in areas where they would otherwise be scarce.
On average, one book is shared in a Little Free Library every day!
72% of volunteer stewards have met more neighbors because of their Little Free Library!
92% of people say their neighborhood feels like a friendlier place because of a Little Free Library!
