Vibes & Rants
RAVES
Angels among us! On Saturday afternoon I was at a checkout in Wal-Mart with a cart of groceries. Behind me was a young man with three items in his hands. I asked him if he would like to go ahead of me. He replied that would be great. After he checked out, he handed the cashier a $20 bill and told her to use it toward my grocery bill. I told him that it was not necessary. I want to say thank you for a kind deed. I will pay it forward. Yes, there are angels among us. Sometimes they stand in the most unlikely places.
Married bliss My husband and I were utterly astounded when we were told that the delightful young couple who had sat at the next table and with whom we had been chatting as we ate, had paid for our very nice dinners! They had told us that they had just gotten married that very day, and we wished them a long and happy life together as they left. We greatly appreciate, and thank them for, their so very generous gift! We will pay it forward!
Lost FitBit While shopping at Aldi's in Batavia I lost my Fitbit. Thanks goes out to the person who turned it into a worker. I did go back within an hour to pick it up. Thank you for being honest. There still are good people in the world.
Good customer service I feel like those gathering carts and janitors in general were not given enough credit during the pandemic. Next time you see them, give a bit of gratitude! They really deserve it. All of your hard work and dedication is not in vain, and we appreciate you! Social Security disturbance
I found it disturbing that you would want to cut off Social Security and Medicare. Either you have not worked a day in your life, or you are self-employed. I have been taxed every paycheck I have received for the last 52 years, putting money into the Social Security system which includes Medicare. I agree Medicaid is out of control and needs to be revamped to cover the ones that really are unable to work due to debilitating conditions. Don't tell me these programs are an entitlement when I have paid for it many times over. The reason the system costs so much is the politicians over all these years misused the tax funds that hard-working people put into it. The Social Security System and Medicare are not a handout. People work many years for this benefi t, and our Government was charged to handle it in such a way that the tax income would cover the cost. I really wonder what you do for a living that you would not understand the basic concept of this program.
Still there
My mother went to a local store. She bought a pair of jeans for me. When she gave them to me, I realized that the alarm tag was still on them. Since it's important to take off, I asked my mother what happened. She said that the cashier said that he didn't have the machine to take it off. The alarm didn't go of when she was leaving the store, but I fear that if I enter a store with the jeans, the alarm will go off. I am not happy.
Recyclables wasted
I recently took a new job. I was shocked at the tons of alcohol bottles, soda cans, and water bottles just dumped with the trash. I discussed this with the owners who added two green recycle bins. So many homeless and needy stop by for help, and they cash in these precious resources. Why don’t gas stations and convenience stores provide bins? Thousands of dollars could be collected for the many worthy causes out there as well. These businesses could also get charity credit on their taxes. Why aren’t recycle bins required, considering the terrible state our natural environment is in? It’s humane and helps preserve our dwindling resources like the water it takes to manufacture glass and plastic containers. Please change your ways! Check out what’s happening out west with drought, heatwaves, wildfi res and the Colorado River, Lake Mead, and the Hoover Dam which provides California, Nevada and Arizona farmers with water to irrigate with, water that is drying up. We in the Northeast have no idea what water shortage is and waste water while the West perishes.
