Thank You!

A local catering company surprised us again with delicious food. Thank you! Your next-door neighbors are most appreciative.

Wonderful Wife

Thank you to my wonderful wife for the sacrifices you have made to take care of our two children. You have paused your career as a standout teacher – twice – to focus on raising them, currently our little girl in her first year of life. You are an outstanding mother, wife, and friend. Everyone whose life you have touched is fortunate, especially me. Life is undoubtedly hard right now with two young ones, but the messes, poor sleep, and frustrations are worth it. The days are long but the years are short. We are blessed with two healthy happy children, a roof over our heads, and stability. Through all the challenges I look forward to moments big and small: cooking, Adirondack vacations, playing outside with the kids, family hikes, silly time, and couch time (plus Trivia and Even Exchange in the Penny Saver). I love you and keep your head up. I’m glad I started a conversation with you – the tall, beautiful brunette from the environmental club – at that party back in college 16 years ago.

Avon Inn Angel!

On January 12, 2023 our ladies golf league gathered for an "after-the holiday" get together at the Avon Inn. One of our golfers fell into medical distress and we would all like to thank Angel, our bartender/server for her quick actions to get our friend comfortable, cooled down and cleared the way for the emergency workers. Your assistance and calmness were much appreciated.

Disappointed and Sad

I am disappointed in some people. It is sad. I was at [Business Name] and got a cart that a good Samaritan left so I in return left it unhooked for someone else. At that time a lady came out and I watched her while I was putting my bag in the car. She took her cart AND the one I left, hooked them, and in turn got the quarters. I always leave my cart if I get one or return a cart if it was left and I used it. I try to do something nice and someone has the nerve to do that. It's not right. Makes me disappointed and sad that someone would do this.

DID YOU KNOW?

January was not always the first month of the year. Earlier calendars, such as the Julian calendar used by the Romans, considered March the first month of the year. These calendars were based largely around weather and harvest schedules, and winter was considered to be a time without definitive months. Eventually, the calendar was expanded at around 713 BCE to include two additional months so it would equal a standard lunar year. Romans also were integral in giving the months their names, and some months got their names from Roman mythology and the gods of that time, while others were named after prominent Roman emperors. January got its name from a Roman god named Janus, who was considered a god of transitions and beginnings. Janus was depicted as a two-faced god, which is appropriate in the present-day since January represents a time of saying goodbye to the old year and looking ahead to the new year.
