Hamlin Public Library The Hamlin Public Library is open for browsing and borrowing of materials Monday and Wednesday from 10am6pm; Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-8pm; Friday from 10am-4pm; Saturdays from 10am-2pm. Curbside pickup is still available. Adults may join our Book of the Month book club. Copies of each month’s book may be checked out at the circulation desk. Preschool storytime is on Mondays at 10:30. We will be reading, moving and singing on the library front lawn or in the Hamlin Town Hall gym depending on weather. A craft program for kids and teens is on Saturday, October 2 at 11am. A limited number of computers are available. Services offered include copying, printing and faxing. Batavia Cemetery Halloween Candlelight Ghostwalk - The Batavia Cemetery Association is excited to announce that the annual Halloween Candlelight Ghostwalk is back! Join us to meet the famous and infamous movers and shakers who shaped and influenced the City of Batavia on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, on a ghost walk through the Historic Batavia Cemetery on Harvester Avenue in Batavia, NY. Tours begin at 7:00 p.m. and run every fifteen minutes until 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes refreshments. Reservations are required. West Side Batavia Ghost Walk Join the Holland Land Office Museum for a West Side Ghostwalk. The walks led by Connie Boyd will take place October 15, 22, and 29 at 7pm. Hear tales of murders, hangings, grave robbing, ghosts and other eerie happenings from Batavia’s past. Also be sure to also check out the Old Batavia Cemetery’s Walk on Saturday, October 23. Admission is $10.00 and reservations are required with purchase. Tours are limited to 20 people each. Tour begins and ends at the museum and is approximately 1 1/2 to two hours in length. HLOM West Side Batavia Ghost Stories - Join us at the Holland Land Office Museum on Friday, October 8th at 7pm as Connie Boyd shares the spooky, sinister, and weird documented stories from the West Side of Batavia’s past. The Clarkson Historical Society will host a presentation on October 6: Remembering 9/11, 20 years ago, The World Trade Center Deb r i s R e c o v e r y P r o j e c t . P e t e r Spagnola’s presentation is about the Forensic Debris Recovery Project on Staten Island. Peter spent 11 months, September 15, 2001 through July 22, 2002, supervising a crew of heavy equipment operations to sort 1.8 million tons of debris from the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The talk is free and the public is invited on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 PM at the Stanley Pogroszewski Justice Court, 3655 Lake Rd. We request attendees wear a mask. The Corfu United Presbyterian Church will be participating at the Village of Corfu’s Autumn Festival on Saturday, October 2, from noon to 6 p.m. with a Manhattan Clam Chowder Sale and a Basket Raffle! The chowder will be sold by the bowl (eat-in) or pint or quart takeout. Bring your own container encouraged, but containers will be available. PERFECT PICNIC POPCORN SQUARES
Yield: 12 squares 1 cup light corn syrup 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 cup reduced-fat peanut butter 3/4 cup raisins 8 cups air-popped popcorn nonstick cooking spray In large saucepan, combine corn syrup, sugar, brown sugar and peanut butter. Bring to boil over low heat, stirring constantly; boil 2-3 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat. In large bowl, combine raisins and popcorn; pour hot mixture over popcorn and toss carefully with wooden spoons until well-coated. Spray 9-by-13 inch baking dish with cooking spray; press popcorn mixture into pan and cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
