Life in the Village has returned to normal and the streets this summer have been full of walking shoppers and parking spaces along Main Street have been at a premium. Weekly summer concerts have provided residents with great evening entertainment. The annual Jazz Festival packed Main Street, both in the pubs and restaurants on Friday night and on the street Saturday night.
Fall featured more events in the Village including the September 11th memorial ceremony, Veterans Day ceremony and luncheon, Trick-or-Treat Trail on October 26th, Bourbon Bash on November 2nd, and Winter Wonderland on December 7th.
Much has been done with the development of the Reimagine Webster Brownfield Opportunity Area Project. In addition, the Village was awarded a $4.5 million NY Forward grant to revitalize our community. Much has been done to move the project forward with 45 proposals received, both public and private, totaling $11.7 million. The projects will be trimmed to between $6-8 million, with the state deciding on the winning proposals.

For nearly a century, Kittelberger Florist & Gifts has been a beloved staple in the Webster community, combining deeprooted family tradition with a commitment to exceptional quality and customer service. Founded in 1928 by the current owner’s greatgrandparents, Kittelberger has remained in the same Webster location, evolving through four generations and now includes some of the fifth. “We’re proud of our history and the fact that we’ve maintained a strong presence in the community for so long,” says fourthgeneration owner, Holly Rund, reflecting on the company’s legacy.
As the business officially transitions ownership from the third to fourth generation in October 2024, Kittelberger continues to uphold its core values of family, community, quality, and teamwork. Each family member has naturally taken on roles within the business, whether it be floral design, wholesale or retail operations. Holly says she has worked there since high school, joining full-time after college graduation. Though she considered other career paths, she realized early in college that her heart was set on being at ‘the shop.’
She says, “We’ve been fortunate to learn from previous generations, who have guided us in a positive direction. We are committed to maintaining the standards they set while also finding ways to innovate and grow.”
Kittelberger offers a personalized customer experience, with high-quality floral arrangements and unique gifts, including home and seasonal décor, jewelry, children’s gifts, clothing, gourmet foods, and pampering items. This emphasis on variety and quality has made Kittelberger a destination for shoppers looking for more than just flowers. “We aim to make everyone who walks through our doors feel uplifted,” Holly says.
Kittelberger’s dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed. Since 2007, the shop has been voted ‘Rochester’s Choice Florist,’ and was recently designated as a historic business by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation. These accolades are a testament to the shop’s enduring presence and its commitment to providing a high-quality experience for every customer.
For Holly, one of the most fulfilling aspects of running the family business is the meaningful relationships they’ve formed with customers over the years.
“We’re there for people through life’s biggest moments — the happy times, the tough times, and everything in between.”
The family’s deep ties to the Webster community are further reflected in their generous contributions to local charities and non-profits. Through their ‘Generosity in Bloom’ program, Kittelberger donates a portion of proceeds from an exclusive floral arrangement to support local causes. Additionally, their unique fundraising initiative allows non-profits to sell a card that gives purchasers a bouquet of flowers each month for a year—an idea that has been warmly embraced by the community.
As they look to the future, the owners of Kittelberger Florist are focused on expanding their impact. They aim to continue growing their wholesale business while staying true to the traditions that have defined them for nearly 100 years. “Our goal is to keep making a positive impact on the community, while maintaining the high standards that people have come to expect from us,” Holly says.
Holly fondly recalls spending childhood weekends at the shop with cousins, up to 14 kids running around at a time, and she is inspired to carry forward the legacy of her greatgrandparents while making her mark on the future.
With a motto that perfectly encapsulates their philosophy— “Rooted in tradition… Blooming with quality”—Kittelberger Florist & Gifts remains a cherished institution in Webster, dedicated to bringing beauty and joy to the community for generations to come.

Shopping locally means that more money will stay in the community. According to recent research from Civic Economics, local eateries return nearly 79 percent of revenue to the community, compared to just over 30 percent for chain restaurants. Overall, for every $100 spent at a local business, around $73 remains in the community, versus roughly $43 when shopping at a non-locally owned business.
Local business owners typically are inclined to go the extra mile for their customers and are personally invested in the services and products they are selling. As a result, shopping locally tends to be a personalized experience. Furthermore, a local business owner may be more amenable to ordering products for specific clientele. Such personalized service is typically not accessible when shopping big box stores or other shops where owners are off-site.
Waiting in long lines for checkout or to pick up merchandise ordered online can drain consumers’ energy and contribute to stress. Local businesses tend to have short lines and small crowds, which can lead to a more pleasant shopping experience.
Local businesses generate more tax revenue per sales dollar, according to Rubicon, a digital marketplace for waste and recycling businesses. Taxes paid by local small businesses go to support schools, parks, roads, and other programs that benefit the community as well.
Local businesses often support good work in the community, such as non-profit groups. These can include schools and sports teams, among other groups. According to Dr. Sue Lynn Sasser, professor of economics at the University of Central Oklahoma, studies indicate non-profits “receive 250 percent more support from small businesses than larger ones.”
Local businesses support other local businesses by buying and selling among each other. A local, independently owned restaurant may source its ingredients from local farms, which means visitors to such eateries are supporting multiple local businesses each time they dine out. COMMUNITIES
Small businesses are a boon to the economy, particularly local economies. These enterprises help their communities in a multitude of ways.
In 2024, Warren’s Decorating Center celebrates 40 years of providing upstate New York with expert home renovation and decorating services. Founded in 1984 by Don Warren, Sr., this family-owned business has evolved from a modest 900-square-foot showroom into a 15,000-square-foot destination for homeowners looking to elevate their spaces. Despite its growth, Warren’s remains committed to offering the personalized service their customers have come to expect.
Whether you’re planning a small room makeover or a complete home renovation, Warren’s Decorating Center is your trusted partner at every step. Customers aren’t just buying products—they’re receiving expert advice from a knowledgeable team dedicated to making your vision a reality. Don Warren, Jr. took over the reins from his father in 2014, and he shares a passion for design with his son, Rick, that continues to inspire the company’s success.
“It’s rewarding to see the transformation of a space and witness how our work can make a house a home.” - Don Warren, Jr.
Warren’s offers a curated selection of products that stand the test of time. While the business originally specialized in paint and wallpaper, it has since expanded to include a wide variety of home furnishings— from flooring and window treatments to upholstery, draperies, and finished and unfinished furniture. “We’ve moved away from paint and transformed into a full-scale decorator business,” says Don Jr. The company stays on top of design trends and product innovations, offering motorized window treatments and other modern touches that make homes both stylish and functional.
One of the key factors behind Warren’s longevity is its unwavering commitment to quality. “If something doesn’t meet our high standards, we simply don’t carry
it,” explains Don Jr. This philosophy, combined with the ability to fill a niche in the market—offering furniture that bridges the gap between overly expensive and cheaply made pieces—has solidified the center’s reputation for offering excellent value.
Warren’s Decorating Center also understands that making home improvement decisions can feel overwhelming. That’s why they offer services designed to make the process as stress-free as possible. Free estimates ensure that customers have a clear understanding of costs upfront, while free samples allow them to see how products will look in their space before making a final decision. With professional decorators like John Bersch on staff, customers receive expert guidance to create spaces that reflect their style and meet their needs. And for those tackling larger projects, flexible financing options make turning dreams into reality more accessible.
The Warren family takes pride not only in their products but also in the relationships they’ve built with customers over the past 40 years. “Our customers are so supportive—they’re amazing,” says Don Jr. He’s particularly proud that Warren’s Decorating Center has weathered significant challenges, including the economic downturn of 2008 and the COVID-19 pandemic. He reflects that surviving those tough times and still being here to serve the community is one of the company’s greatest accomplishments.
Visit Warren’s Decorating Center at 964 Ridge Road in Webster, NY, and discover how 40 years of family ownership and expertise can make all the difference in your next home project. Experience the personalized service, quality products, and dedication to excellence that has kept Warren’s thriving for four decades.
Heart to Heart Bride, a bridal boutique owned by Sarah Ashworth and her husband, has been helping brides find their dream gowns since 2004. Sarah, who oversees all aspects of the business today, purchased the boutique in 2019 after working at their original location in Manchester (now their sister store, Two Hearts Bridal) since she was 16 and a sophomore at Penfield High School. 2025 marks Sarah’s 20th year with the company.
The store moved from the Village of Webster to its spacious new location at 1170 Ridge Road, Webster in April 2023, making room for an expanded inventory, including a growing collection for mothers of the bride and groom.
What sets Heart to Heart Bride apart is the personalized experience they offer. From the moment a bride books an appointment, the team reaches out to connect, followed by a virtual consultation where brides can discuss their love stories, wedding details, and to answer any questions the brides-to-be have before their appointment. This ensures every bride feels special and prepared when they step into the boutique.
“Finding your wedding dress is a core memory for a lot of women and it’s so fun and rewarding to be a part of that!”
- Sarah Ashworth, Owner
The store also features a one-of-a-kind “celebration lounge,” where brides and their loved ones can toast the momentous occasion with champagne, as Heart to Heart is the only bridal shop in Rochester with a liquor license.
Helping brides feel comfortable, confident, and stress-free is at the heart of what Sarah and her team strive for. A standout moment for the store came in June 2023 when Justin Warshaw of Justin Alexander visited for Heart to Heart’s first fashion show, marking a milestone in their new location.
Sarah encourages the local community to shop local, emphasizing how their support helps small businesses thrive and give back to the community. Heart to Heart Bride donates a portion of every bridal gown sale to Penfield Hope and supports the Cancer Support Community of Rochester through special event proceeds.
As Heart to Heart Bride continues to grow, Sarah’s goal is to fill every fitting room with happy brides and their families, especially in their growing mother of the bride and groom department. With upcoming trunk shows featuring exclusive collections and special offers, now is the perfect time to discover what Heart to Heart Bride has to offer!

The Town and Village of Webster are blessed to have a great many active projects taking place throughout the community. Public works, infrastructure, parks and recreation, transportation improvements, Main Street revitalization, the revamping of dilapidated structures, master planning projects intended to foster a renewed vision for the future, and a bevy of private-sector investments, all taking place throughout Webster’s 35 square miles. A common thread linking many of these activities is the Webster Economic Development Alliance – the community’s solution to the need for a coordinated economic development approach across the Town and Village of Webster.
Formed in 2008 as a Local Development Corporation, WEDA (or the Alliance) is a public-private partnership with five members: the Town and Village of Webster, Webster Central Schools, the Webster Chamber of Commerce, and the Village Business Improvement District. The Alliance was formed to speak with a unified voice for economic development in Webster and to promote growth and revitalization in the community. A key role of WEDA is to facilitate the planning and implementation of strategic projects
in Webster, including securing necessary funding to bring projects to fruition. Additionally, WEDA functions as the community’s local site selector, and was responsible for coordinating the arrival of the $650m fairlife® project into Webster.
Since 2014, WEDA has secured over $15,000,000 in State and Federal assistance for a variety of local projects, representing a return-on-investment of $18.87 for each $1.00 contributed by the corporation’s five members.
In particular, 2024 has been a momentous year for Webster. In February, Governor Hochul awarded the Village $4.5m in downtown revitalization funding for Main Street, parks and building improvements. This was followed up by the generous support from Senator Schumer and Congressman Morelle to secure $500,000 in Housing and Urban Development funding towards infrastructure improvements that will facilitate the revitalization of a 75-acre Xerox site on Phillips Road into a new mixed-use neighborhood. Central to each of these victories was the Alliance and its steadfast approach to building relationships and awareness at the State and Federal levels that Webster is indeed a community worthy of investment.
In 2025 and beyond, the Webster Economic Development Alliance will remain focused on revitalization efforts in the West Webster Hamlet, Village Downtown, and the Xerox Campus, seeking to make Webster a community of choice for living, working, investing and playing. For additional
Each summer, the Webster CSD Transportation Department welcomes incoming kindergartners and their parents/ guardians to participate in the Strive for Five School Bus Safety program. Students, along with their parents/guardians, have the opportunity to ride the bus and learn about school bus safety as they prepare to begin the new school year.
To learn even more about Webster CSD, district residents may receive periodic communications from the district by joining the Webster CSD News and Information community group. For details see the news story (click on “More News”) at www.websterschools.org. Community members are encouraged to follow WCSD’s social media platforms: Facebook (@WebsterCentralSchools) and X/Twitter (@WCSDProud).
Doors opened for the 2024-25 school year on Tuesday, September 3, and Webster CSD anticipates another exciting time together. Webster CSD serves approximately 8,100 students in 11 schools, prekindergarten through grade 12. There are seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in the One Webster community. The district employs 1,600+ staff and includes the Town of Webster, one-third of Penfield, and smaller portions of Ontario and Walworth in Wayne County. It is the second largest suburban school district in Monroe County and among the 25 largest districts in New York State outside of New York City.
All Webster CSD curriculum is designed to expose students to the knowledge, skills, and experience they need for success in the classroom as well as future contributors to a global economy. The district’s curriculum includes a comprehensive Advanced Placement (AP) program that offers 25+ courses for secondary students. Students may also enroll in numerous dual credit courses available through WCSD’s partnership with Monroe Community College and the Rochester Institute of Technology and the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) that can result in potential tuition savings for graduating seniors. The district also offers four courses from the nationally acclaimed Project Lead the Way Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum for secondary students.
Additionally, Webster CSD is home to the One Webster Learning (OWL) program for elementary, middle, and high school students. OWL integrates social emotional learning with academics and related services. It provides students with the same resources that their fellow One Webster peers have: buildings, classrooms, materials. The district also offers the Growth and Opportunity through Alternative Learning (GOAL) program. GOAL is the district’s alternative high school program for grades 9-12, enrolling students from both Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas high schools and housed at Webster Schroeder High School. GOAL supports students academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally to enable them to earn their NYS Regents Diploma. For our youngest learners, Webster CSD provides a full-day (fivehour) prekindergarten program to 4-year-olds at all seven of its elementary schools, Webster Schroeder High School, Webster Thomas High School, plus child care partners. Half-day programs are also available depending on community needs where space is available. The play-based program engages students in social and emotional skills with a heavy emphasis on communication.
The district also offers robust community education programming with a variety of enrichment courses in school buildings throughout the year for learners of all ages. Driver’s education courses and facility rentals are also handled by the WCSD Community Education Department. Program guides are delivered to district residents three times yearly, in June, August, and December.
At Elizabeth Wende Breast Care (EWBC), they do what they do every day because:
• 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
• Breast cancer is curable when detected early
• Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women
• Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease
Breast cancer detection has come a long way since the 1970s, and the Rochester area played a considerable role advancing the technology to find
breast cancer earlier. Tech giants such as Kodak and Xerox collaborated with the medical community, creating equipment and film for breast imaging. However, film mammography had limitations, specifically delayed image assessment, leading to extended wait times, repeat exams, and patient anxiety.
In the late 1990s into the 2000s, digital technology revolutionized mammography, enabling real-time image evaluation and enhanced and magnified views. In 2008, EWBC transitioned to fully digital mammography, and from 2009, they developed new digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT, aka 3D) research. This technique captures detailed 1mm slice images in an arc-like pattern, surpassing standard mammograms in tissue depiction, enhancing cancer detection while reducing callbacks. FDA approval came in 2011, followed by EWBC’s full DBT implementation.
As technology advances, the ability to find small cancers earlier improves. Today, EWBC’s seven locations offer screening breast ultrasounds for patients with dense breast tissue. In their 48th year of serving Rochester and surrounding areas, they continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies and equipment for even more effective breast cancer detection. They also prioritize patients, providing same-day results for screening appointments, two expert radiologist readings for every mammogram, and a comprehensive cancer risk and genetics program, ensuring personalized and superior care for the community’s well-being.
Elizabeth Wende Breast Care has offices located in Batavia, Brighton, Carthage, Geneseo, Greece, Victor, and Webster. All offices offer the latest in 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, and same day screening results. To make an appointment, call (585) 442-2190 or visit ewbc.com.

Life is expensive. It seems like the cost of everyday items keeps rising, making it difficult to set aside savings for a rainy-day fund or for a bigger purchase. Here are some helpful tips to kickstart your savings!
Shop Smart: Smart shoppers plan ahead, shop early, compare prices, and never pay full price for anything. Look for coupons and sales (both in-store and online).
Be a Creative Gifter: Using your creativity, you can save a lot of money by making a handcrafted gift for birthdays and holidays instead of purchasing a present. Ditto for cards. Cards can be so expensive! Why not make your own personalized card?
Make One Trip instead of Running Multiple Errands: If you have errands to run, plan out your stops in advance so you can make one trip instead of multiple trips and save on gas.
Plan Meals in Advance: By planning your meals in advance for the week, you can save by buying only what you need and not wasting groceries.
Use Credit Cards Wisely: Shop around for cards that offer rewards or points that will rack up fast with each purchase. The Summit offers a range of Visa™ credit cards that fit every lifestyle and budget.
Improve Your Credit Score: Whenever you apply for a credit card, loan, lease, increase on your credit limit and, in some cases a job, a summary of your credit history, a “credit report,” comes into the picture. Working to improve your credit score can save you thousands of dollars in interest charges.
Take Advantage of Creative Savings Products: Financial institutions have really tapped into the way that their customers and members spend and save. The Summit Federal Credit Union’s RoundUp Savings* account offers members an easy way to save while they spend using their Summit Visa® Debit Card. When a purchase is made with their Summit Visa® Debit Card, the transaction is “rounded up” to the nearest dollar and the spare change is automatically transferred from their checking account to their RoundUp Savings account.
There are ways you can save creatively without even knowing it or even adjusting your lifestyle much! It’s about making good choices and committing to saving!

At Clip-n-Cuddle on Empire Boulevard, making your dog or cat look and feel its best is Barb Crawford’s passion. With over three decades of professional grooming experience, Barb opened Clip-n-Cuddle in 2002, offering expert grooming services, including brushouts and haircuts, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing and scraping. At Clip-n-Cuddle, “For your pet, only the best experience will do.”
The Clip-n-Cuddle team includes six certified groomers and three bathers, all of whom are passionate animal lovers and pet parents themselves, creating a happy, nurturing environment for your pets. Rest assured that when you entrust your pets to the team, they will be in safe, caring hands.
Barb recently expanded her business with the opening of CNC Small Dog Day Camp, “your pup’s home away from home,” next door to the salon. This safe and comfortable space allows smaller dogs to socialize, play, and relax. Barb is eager to see the daycare grow, one fur baby at a time.
Barb’s compassion for animals extends beyond the grooming table. She is well-known in the local rescue community for her dedication to fostering and revitalizing dogs. Over the past nine years, Barb has fostered more than 100 dogs, bringing them to socialize at the salon and play at the play center next door. She also provides free or discounted grooming
services for local rescues as well as donations to local charitable events.
Like many in the rescue community, Barb has countless fond memories of helping dogs from terrible situations revitalize and find their “furever” homes. One story close to her heart involved a severely matted dog brought in for grooming about a decade ago. “We couldn’t tell its gender or even if it had eyes,” she recalls. After hours of care, the dog was transformed, and the next day, a client fell in love with her. That same dog still visits Clip-n-Cuddle, a reminder of the life-changing power of care and compassion.

People are the priority for this local bank “Banking is a people business, not a money business.”
The words of George Hamlin were passed down not just to his son, Frank Hamlin, but to everyone at Canandaigua National Bank & Trust – the company George ran as president and CEO for over three decades. The sincerity with which George spoke this idea into existence is the reason Canandaigua National Bank & Trust has been a welcomed part of each community it services, including Penfield.
CNB’s Penfield branch at 1816 Penfield Rd. celebrated its 20-year anniversary this spring. Sure, it’s a bank and, yes, CNB provides financial services like checking and savings. But what Amity Decker, Assistant Vice President and Penfield Community Office Manager, and her team do is help people feel comfortable with their finances.
“No two people come in here with the same story. There’s always something unique about who they are, why they need help, and what will work for them. And it’s our privilege to help them get there.”
- Amity Decker
Decker raves about their “wonderful opportunity in knowing what [they] know about finances and having access to colleagues that can help, and it’s exciting to think that [we] can help someone find their way.”
Talk for decades has been about the demise of the physical branch location in favor of digital tools like mobile apps and artificial intelligence. Over that time, CNB has more than doubled its number of branches, ensuring customers can see someone face-to-face when they need it.
“I love that we offer all the digital tools people are looking for,” says Decker. “I use my phone for a lot of my personal banking, and these tools certainly aren’t negative by any means. But it’s different when someone walks in and opens up about what they want out of life—the reasons they want to be financially successful and the barriers that are in the way. And it doesn’t matter how much money we’re talking about, because to that person, it means the world.”
