The Surveyor George Washington 1776 Lodge #337 F&AM Trestle Board Summer 2005 Kenwood Council #34, R&SM

Message from the East We Can Do It! Brother Edgar A. Guest wrote many fine ditties, but let us read aloud the following memorable rhyme: Somebody said it couldn’t be done, But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so ‘till he’d tried. So, he buckled right in, with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

The can-do, take-charge attitude marks both a man of service and a leader. If we are to become better men in Masonry, we must begin each day with a can-do, will-do spirit. We must reject our tendency to think we can’t. How can we pluck up our courage and to tackle that thing, be in business, or with family, or the Fraternity? Everyday we must unlearn bad habits and relearn good ones, particularly in finding the guts and fortitude to try that thing we said couldn’t be done. Repetition aids us in our struggle to say we can. Maybe it is a good idea to repeat Edgar Guest’s poem. Or, perhaps if you could change one of your computer passwords to “Icandoit,” that you type each day, you will start to believe it. But for our lodge, may our password in June be, “We can do it!” After all, we found that putting four lodges together made us all stronger. We buckled right in, with a trace of a grin, and we did it! Fraternally, Dick Marcus, WM Up-Coming Events July 4: Whitefish Bay parade.
