Ar ôl i’r cwrs Cymraeg Wlpan cyntaf erioed gael ei gyflwyno ym 1974 cynhaliwyd cwrs dwys arbrofol 4 wythnos yn Llanbedr Pont Steffan, Ceredigion, yn haf 1975, ac ym 1976 datblygodd y cwrs hwn yn gwrs 8 wythnos. Yna symudodd y cwrs i Brifysgol Caerdydd yn 2004.

After the first ever Wlpan Welsh course was introduced in 1974, an experimental 4 week block intensive course was held in Lampeter, Ceredigion in the summer of 1975 and in 1976. This course developed into an 8 week course. The course then moved to Cardiff University in 2004.

Dros y blynyddoedd rydym wedi cynnwys mwy o lefelau a dewisiadau yn y cyrsiau haf ond tair blynedd yn ôl, am y tro cyntaf erioed, roedd yn bosibl astudio am 2, 4, 6 neu 8 wythnos gyda strwythurau prisio deniadol newydd. O ganlyniad i hyn ac wrth wella a datblygu’r cwrs dros y blynyddoedd, mae dros 100 o bobl wedi mynychu ein Cwrs Haf bob blwyddyn dros y tair blynedd ddiwethaf.

Over the years we have included more levels and options to the summer courses but three years ago, for the first time ever, it was possible to study for 2,4, 6 or 8 weeks with new attractive pricing structures. As a result of this and because we have improved and developed the course over the years, more than 100 people have attended our Summer Course every year for the last three years.

To this day the Summer Course remains the only truly intensive course of its type in the Welsh language. The summer course is a unique opportunity to be immersed in the Welsh language and a great place to make new friends and acquaintances.

Mynediad (Rhan 1 a 2)

Entry (Part 1 and 2)

Yn addas ar gyfer dechreuwyr pur neu ddysgwyr sydd wedi cwblhau cwrs blasu’r Gymraeg. Ar Gymraeg sgyrsiol y mae’r pwyslais. Bydd dysgwyr yn dysgu patrymau sylfaenol, cyfarchion a geirfa a byddant yn gallu cynnal sgwrs sylfaenol yn yr amser presennol a’r gorffennol erbyn diwedd Mynediad 1. Mae’r lefel Mynediad 2 yn dysgu mwy o batrymau iaith yn cynnwys rhagor o’r amser gorffennol a rhai patrymau iaith yr amser dyfodol.

Suitable for pure beginners or for those who have completed a Welsh taster course. The emphasis is very much on conversational Welsh. Learners will learn basic patterns, greetings and vocabulary and will be able to hold a basic conversation in the present and past tense by the end of Entry 1. The Entry 2 level teaches more language patterns including more of the past tense and some future tenses.

Sylfaen (Rhan 1 a 2)

Foundation (Part 1 and 2)

Mae’r cwrs Sylfaen ar gyfer dysgwyr sydd wedi cwblhau’r lefel Mynediad yn llwyddiannus neu sydd â rhywfaint o wybodaeth sylfaenol am yr iaith fel patrymau’r presennol a’r gorffennol. e.e. “Dw i’n mynd”, “Es i” a “Bydda i’n mynd”.

The Foundation course is for learners who have successfully completed the Entry level or who have basic knowledge of the language including patterns such as the past and present tense . i.e. “Dw i’n mynd”, “Es i” a “Bydda i’n mynd”.

Canolradd (Rhan 1 a 2) – Cyfateb â Lefel TGAU

Intermediate (Part 1 and 2) – Equivalent to GCSE level

Yn addas ar gyfer y sawl sydd eisoes wedi cwblhau Mynediad a Sylfaen neu sydd eisoes yn eithaf cysurus â phatrymau sylfaenol yr iaith fel y gorffennol, y presennol, y dyfodol a’r amodol (e.e. “baswn i”). Ar siarad y mae’r pwyslais o hyd ond bydd mwy o ysgrifennu, darllen a gwrando’n cael eu cyflwyno’n raddol. Dylai dysgwyr allu trafod materion bob dydd yn eithaf hawdd erbyn diwedd y lefel hon.

Suitable for those who have already completed Entry and Foundation or those who are already quite comfortable with the basic patterns of the language such as past, present, future and conditional (i.e. “I would”). The emphasis is still on speaking but with more writing, reading, and listening will gradually be introduced. Learners should be able to discuss every day issues fairly easily by the end of this level.

Uwch 1 a 2 Cyfateb â Lefel AS

Advanced 1 and 2 Equivalent to AS Level

Mae’r cwrs yn anelu at godi hyder i sgwrsio ac ysgrifennu am bethau heblaw materion bob dydd. Bydd pynciau a materion cyfoes yn cael eu trafod yn y dosbarth. Ceir cyfle i ymarfer patrymau a phwyntiau gramadegol er mwyn creu brawddegau mwy cymhleth.

This course aims to raise confidence levels in order to be able to have conversations and to write about contemporary issues. Subjects and contemporary issues will be discussed in the classroom. There will also be opportunities to practise grammatical points and patterns in order to create more complex sentences.

Uwch 3 a 4 Cyfateb â Lefel A

Advanced 3 and 4 Equivalent to A Level

Mae’r cwrs yn addas ar gyfer dysgwyr sydd wedi cwblhau’r cwrs Uwch 1. Cyflwynir gwaith gwylio a deall ac iaith lenyddol. Datblygir sgiliau llafar ymhellach wrth drafod materion cyfoes.

Suitable for those who have completed Advanced 1. Literary and aural activities will be introduced and vocabulary and verbal skills will be developed further by discussing contemporary issues.

Gloywi Iaith 1 and 2

Ydych chi’n siarad Cymraeg ond yn poeni am ddefnyddio’r iaith yn y gwaith? Os felly, dyma’r cwrs i chi. Gloywi 1 (Cwrs 1 wythnos): Rheolau gramadegol, rheolau sillafu, ysgrifennu llythyrau, e-byst a chofnodion, sut i gynnal cyfarfodydd, a sut i ddelio â chwsmeriaid dros y ffôn yn Gymraeg. Gloywi 2 (Cwrs 1 wythnos): Ydych chi wedi gwneud Cwrs Gloywi yn barod ond yn meddwl byddech chi’n elwa o gwrs arall o’r fath? Os felly, dyma’r cwrs i chi.

Do you speak Welsh but are worried about using the language in work? If so, here’s the course for you. Gloywi Iaith 1 (1 week course): Grammar rules, spelling rules, how to hold and minute meetings in Welsh and how to deal with customers over the phone in Welsh. Gloywi Iaith 2 (1 week course): Have you already done a Gloywi Iaith course but think you would benefit from doing more? if so, here’s the course for you.

Fel rhan o’r cwrs, bydd disgwyl i chi wneud hyd at 36 awr o oriau ymarfer siarad Cymraeg tu fas i’r dosbarth. Bydd hwn yn helpu’n fawr gydag ymarfer eich Cymraeg a byddwn ni’n rhoi nifer fawr o ddigwyddiadau llawn hwyl ymlaen i chi fel bod modd i chi gyrraedd eich nod!

As part of the course, you will be expected to complete up to 36 hours of speaking Welsh outside of the classroom. This will be a big help with practising your Welsh and we will arrange a wide range of fun-filled activities so that you’re able to reach your goal!

Academics at the School of Welsh, Cardiff University, specialise in Welsh literature, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period, as well as language, including sociolinguistics, language acquisition, language planning and policy. If you would like to find out more about the School’s research interests, academics will be available to meet with you during the course.

ACCOMMODATION Would you like to stay in University accommodation while you’re studying on the Summer Course? If so, you’re welcome to stay in the student halls at Colum Road (limited spaces available). These self-catering student halls are very close to where the Summer Course will be held and you will be sharing with other people attending the Summer Course. You will also have a personal tutor who will be your mentor during your stay in Cardiff. You need to book on a course before you’re able to book this accommodation and you will need to pay for your accommodation before attending the course.
