Oct. 1 — This hard rock, hardcore punk and heavy metal music tour takes to the road twice a year. Headlining the fall 2010 tour are heavy metal hardhitters Slayer and Megadeth. Tickets start at $39.50. • Carrie Underwood on Oct. 27 — Six-time 2010 Academy of Country Music nominee and “American Idol” alum Carrie Underwood will continue her highly successful Play on Tour through the end of the year. Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia will appear as special guests. Tickets start at $35.50. • Jason Aldean on Nov. 20 — Multi-platinum country star and Georgia native Jason Aldean is headlining a high-octane tour. Tickets start at $34.75.

The 1940s ushered in an artistic era in which one of the most famous — and most controversial — painters of the 20th century reinvented himself as an artist. The body of work created by eccentric Spanish painter Salvador Dalí during the last 40 years of his life are a visual exploration of science, psychology and religion and the subject of the exhibition “Salvador

Dalí: The Late Work,” now on display at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. Comprised of more than 100 works — about 40 paintings and related drawings and prints as well as film, sculptures and photographs — it’s the first major exhibition to re-evaluate the final era of Dalí’s artistic life. Presented in collaboration with the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Fla., the exhibit includes several works that have not been seen in the U.S. in

On Sept. 30, the museum will host a lecture on the collaboration between Dalí and photographer Philippe Halsman over the course of three decades in which some of the most memorable photos of Dalí were taken. William Jeffett, chief curator of exhibitions for the Salvador Dalí Museum and Halsman’s daughter, Irene Halsman, will explore the iconic images that were produced. She went from the city where everybody’s somebody to the “American Idol” stage and then on to Broadway. Now, Snellville’s own Diana DeGarmo is returning to Georgia as Doralee Rhodes in “9 to 5: The Musical,” a role made famous by Dolly Parton. DeGarmo, runner-up on the third season of the reality TV show “American Idol” and whose Broadway credits include “Hair,” “Hairspray”

and “Brooklyn: The Musical,” will take the stage at the Fox Theatre as Doralee from Sept. 28 through Oct. 3. The musical comedy, which follows three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do, even in a world dominated by men, is presented by the regional theater company Theater of the Stars.
