Fun facts about the Mall of Georgia Mall of Georgia opened August 13, 1999. There is a statue on top of the Mall of Georgia that stands 12 feet tall. This statue is of Button Gwinnett, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and who Gwinnett County was also named after. He never actually stepped foot in Gwinnett County. 10,000 tons of steel were used to build Mall of Georgia. The 3D IMAX Theatre at Regal Cinema 20 is 6 stories tall. Trees for the Mall of Georgia grounds were shipped from 7 states (MD, NJ, SC, FL, TN, TX, & GA). 60 tractor-trailer loads of sod

were used for Mall of Georgia. The Mall of Georgia Food Court can seat 750 people. The Food Court was designed to replicate Union Station, the main post-civil war train terminal for Atlanta, which is also one of Atlanta’s most famous buildings. 250,000 square feet of tile was used in the Mall of Georgia. That’s enough tile to stretch from the food court at Mall of Georgia to the food court at Underground Atlanta. Mall of Georgia has 11,453 parking spaces. Mall of Georgia is divided into 5 geographic regions, just like the state of Georgia. They are

Coastal, Mountain, Plains, Piedmont, and Atlanta. The décor of each region is based off of the part of Georgia in which it represents. 1,000,000 bricks were used to construct the Mall of Georgia. It would take 1 painter, 4 years and 9 months to paint the common area of the mall. 2.5 million screws were used to build the Mall of Georgia. Mall of Georgia has 14 entrances, not counting the entrances to the department stores. The top border of the wall that goes most of the way around the mall lists every Georgia city. The fountain by Macy’s was designed to look like the Forsyth Fountain that is located in Savannah.
