Commonly, nitrate is applied in the form of calcium ammonium nitrate (containing 27% of nitrogen and 8% of calcium) at the rate of around 300 kg/ha. This supplies only 24 kg/ha of calcium so that most of the required calcium can be supplied in the form of gypsum (300 kg/ha of calcium requires 1,200 kg/ha of gypsum). Sulphur Most horticultural crops need about 120 kg/ha of sulphur annually. About one third of this will come from the organic sulphur cycle within the soil, one third from a base dressing of gypsum (40 kg/ha of sulphur requires 220 kg/ha of gypsum) and the balance from other sulphur containing fertilisers. Soil Structure to obtain significant improvements in the structure of clay soils requires much higher rates of gypsum application (2,000-4,000 kg/ha of gypsum). Timing Gypsum relies upon rainfall to solubilise it and so move it into the soil profile where it has its effect, it is therefore best applied in early spring or after harvest when rainfall can do its work. It can, however, be applied at any time because gypsum does not damage plant tissues – even at high application rates. Calcium transport into fruit occurs mostly during spring. Where gypsum is being used to remedy a soil calcium deficiency, it is best to apply it well before bloom to ensure that the calcium reaches the feeder roots in good time. Construction Waste Diversion & On-Site Disposal Contemporary green building standards emphasize the need to limit the quantity of material that flows to landfills. As millions of years passed, these salt deposits combined with decayed vegetation and other minerals, and eventually the result was stratified rock, with layers of gypsum and layers of limestone alternating, the whole covered over with many feet of glacial deposits.

Some advantages to consider when choosing it over traditional drywall include the following. It is designed to offer an improved level of protection from the growth of mold. The surface strength of paperless drywall is greater than that of standard drywall due to the added rigidity of the fiberglass covering. It is less likely to become damaged because of this attribute. Paperless drywall offers special advantages in high-moisture areas, such as basements and bathrooms, where mold growth is a big concern. While there are some great features offered that will be helpful in certain applications, there have been some complaints and concerns raised, as well. Paperless drywall is more expensive per square foot, compared to traditional drywall. In some areas of the U.S., availability is also a concern. Paperless drywall is a fairly new product and may not be available in some areas. A major concern that has been the topic of some debate is that paperless drywall is more difficult to install and finish than standard drywall.
Decorative Lime Plaster 16 ene 2015 The subject of decorative plaster is really a tale of two plasters – two plasters that are often confused as one, both having the same appearance but each having very different qualities. The first, the one plaster that is usually associated with early decorative work is lime plaster. Made from lime putty, lime plaster has wonderful versatility, but its reward is gained at a price, for lime is a deceptively difficult substance to use and its behaviour is often unpredictable. The other plaster comes from an easier to use, more popular material, a fine white powder capable of a quick predictable set. This is gypsum plaster. It is the most common material used today for plain and decorative plasterwork, but prior to cheap mass-produced gypsum plaster in the late 19th century, both gypsum and lime were used for decorative plasterwork, at times combined side by side in one decorative scheme where the two methods and materials complement each other. Lime plaster remained in widespread use for traditional vernacular buildings beyond the advent of fibrous plaster and cheap gypsum plaster, mainly because of ease of availability in the countryside.

Illegally handling, storing and depositing wallboard 16 dic 2014 A waste company has been ordered to pay Euro18,968 in fines and costs for illegally handling, storing and depositing wallboard. The case was brought by the Environment Agency. In October 2012 approximately 60t of broken wallboard from Tawmix Timber Products Ltd was found tipped on a site known as Poppy's Field beside an old airfield at Winkleigh, Devon. The material was contaminated with construction and demolition waste. A special permit is needed to treat and store this type of waste. In July 2013 similar wallboard was illegally used to construct a new fence at Tawmix Timber Products' business premises at Unit 2, Winkleigh Airfield. North Devon Magistrates' Court heard that Tawmix Timber Products was permitted to store, sort, separate, screen or crush waste wood at its site in Winkleigh. However, it did not have permission to accept gypsum based construction material such as wallboard, which requires specialist handling, treatment and disposal. The company had received advice and guidance from the Environment Agency on plasterboard and was aware it needed a 'variation' to its permit before it could accept this material. "Wallboard should only be recycled and recovered by specialist companies," said Environment Agency spokesman Sue Smillie. "Tawmix Timber Products did not hold the necessary permits to store, shred and deposit this material. By accepting wallboard on Poppy's Field and depositing wallboard at its main site, the company was in breach of its permit." Tawmix Timber Products Ltd was fined a total of Euro15,167 and ordered to pay Euro3713 costs for two offences under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010, including the illegal storage and use of chipped wallboard at Poppy's Field and Unit 2, Winkleigh. The company pleaded guilty to both charges at an earlier hearing. The patent covers the incorporation of an antimicrobial additive package into the wallboard to resist the growth of mould and mildew. The patented wallboard employs a two-part anti-microbial system and an innovative targeting approach to provide protection against mould, mildew and fungus. "These types of product patents help us to develop new specific formulations for dealing with microbial issues that wallboard may have, especially in humid or damp areas," said Ivan Ong, VP of research and development. "In wallboard, fungal issues typically occur at the interface between the paper and the gypsum core. When calcined, it is partially dehydrated and becomes a fine white powder - commonly known as the ‘Plaster of Paris’ - which hardens when moistened and allowed to dry.
