The project observes the House as a typology and as an analogy of basic human needs. The house provides us not only a place to fulfill our lifeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mechanism (eat, rest, wash etc.), but also a place TO BE and to feel belong. The sense of â&#x20AC;&#x153;belongingnessâ&#x20AC;? is maybe one of the most important functions of the place we call home, both to the individual both as a cultural archetype. The Collective House thus deconstructs specific functions from the home-archetype (salon, kitchen, armoire, bathroom etc.) and reorganizes them in relation to a communal scale and with a clear economical notion of living in 21st century Paris.

As a reaction to the colossal scale of the Great Paris layouts and missions, the project of The Collective House takes a step backwards in scale and in speed, and deals with the taken-for-granted every-day life in Paris as a student, as a low-class family, as an immigrant or as an individual who seeks for human contact.

The Ever-Changing Living Unit | Jerusalem, Israel Done in partnership with Helen Wexler Guiding professors: Arch. Adi Biran, Arch. Guy Re Moor & Arch. Laurant Katz Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

Located in a generic office building, this project examines the potential for office-living. When examining the site, we discovered that 15% of it was vacant despite its central location. Based on this, we decided to intervene and propose a new organizational structure for the floors. We propose a system of moving partitions, enabling dynamic interactions and various area divisions based on changing needs both in the short term and in the long term. Thus, creating hybridization that in the short term enables various interactions between the units throughout the day, and in the long term enables the spaces to be either housing or office space depending on the market needs. In times of frequent change, scarcity of resources and exponential population growth, a new approach towards urban density is needed. We believe that this project unveils new possibilities of experiencing architecture and social interaction, through its dynamic spaces that allow maximum usage and flexibility. We view this project as a case study for a systematic approach that has the possibility to be implemented in multiple environments and on a broad range of scales.

Le Poème de la Ligne Droite | Paris, France Guiding professor: Arch. Carine Merlino ENSA Paris Malaquais

Done as part of a workshop dedicated to the films of Buster Keaton, this project was evoked by the profound questions his films raise underneath their humoristic facade. In his his film The Blacksmith, for example, Keaton expresses some of the deepest questions from the philosophical discipline of Epistemology. With several funny and full-of-wit scenes, Keaton manage to point out the core question of Cartesian philosophy: What is it that we know about reality? What reality actually is? According to Keaton, it is all a matter of point of view, of scale, of right framing. These notions evoked the creation of the project Le Poème de la Ligne Droite, which seeks to simplify spatially the very essence of ‘point of view’: a transformation from a straight line into a diagonal.

Community Forest | Jerusalem, Israel Guiding professors: Arch. Amir Tomashov, Arch. Dan Hasson, & Artist Elisheva Levy Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

Located in a ‘leftover-space’ between typical residential buildings from the ‘50 and ‘60, the project was triggered by the opportunity it could offer to regenerate communal life. The location of the space, its dimensions,natural vitality and flora were a fertile soil for thought about communal usage, which does not exist there. With simple and delicate architectonic gestures, the untouched wilderness becomes a place where nature could meet human and social encounters, and gatherings can be formed. In the heart of this project stands the notion of possibility, rather than the strict definition and determination of function.

Social Agricultural Housing | Jerusalem, Israel Guiding professor: Arch. Ori Scialom & Arch. Oren Ben Avraham Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

Located on a hillside of a 1960â&#x20AC;&#x2122; Jerusalem neighborhood, this rehabilitation housing project draws a new social agenda in Jerusalem as it infuses between social housing and communal agriculture. The structural base of the existing building is preserved and reinforced, as the building becomes a middle layer between two new bars of circulation and green balconies. The new bars have a structural function as well as architectonic one: to reinforce the old buildingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s resistance to earthquakes, as well as to maximize usable appartement surface. The existing sloped landscape around the building is treated in a local ancient way to create agricultural terraces. These terraces, planted by local fruit trees and vegetables, are the focal point of the communal get-together.

The Canopy | Beersheba, Israel Done in partnership with Eitamar Benhamu Guiding professors: Arch. Guy Re Moor & Arch Yossi Klein Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

From its establishment in the 1950’s until nowadays, the southern city of Beersheba is bound with the paradoxical conceptions of the Garden-City. The outcome of the design policy in this desert area, was the formation of a shadeless reality. The project sets itself near one of the city’s iconic buildings, the “Quarter Kilometer“ building, and deals with urban renewal through the politics of shading, as shade is a rare and needed entity in the Beersheba vicinity. The project uses the existing qualities of the built environment (scale, circulation, near commercial area, connection to the city) in order to construct a vivid urban square. It does so by creating a giant shading grid, which permits life to *take place* in *the place*.

Rails/River | Ivry Sur Seine, France Guiding professors: Arch. Arnaud Bical & Arch. Bruno Hubert ENSA Paris Malaquais

As a reaction to the effort that is invested in the conception of The Great Paris (Le Grand Paris), this project focuses in one of the Parisian suburbs, Ivry Sur Seine. The project seeks to construct an identity which is not classified by its comparison with Paris, but by the proper character of local phenomenon in Ivry. The project sets itself in the great spatial rapture that the vast train rail poses upon Ivry. As the rails cross Ivry and divide it into two very different parts, one can see the possibility the rails offer. The project sees them as an important assent of Ivry, rather than a disturbing entity that needs to be hidden. With the local notions of grunge textures, high speed and vastness of space, another kind of architectural typology and urbanism are created there, marking the rails as a generator of development in Ivry.

The Road to Jerusalem | Jerusalem, Israel Guiding professors: Arch. Liat Eisen, Poet Michaela Lamdan & Arch. Nilly R. Harag Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

Jerusalem, as a target of a massive pilgrimage movement, has marked a spiritual center for the three great monotheistic religions for centuries. This project is intrigued by the superposition of the imagined spiritual centrality upon the tectonic urban reality of 21st century Jerusalem. The project seeks to understand the particular spatial process of pilgrimage, and its relations with a spiritual or a religious experience. As it deconstructs the physical elements of one of the main pilgrimage routes which lead to the Old City of Jerusalem, questions are raised regarding abstract and concrete terms of process, centrality, sensation and intensity. Rethinking Bezalel | Jerusalem, Israel Guiding professors: Arch. Daniel Mintz, Mathematician Vadim Gershkovitch Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

In late 2013, the new design for Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem was revealed by the world-wide-known Japanese office SAANA. As a Jerusalem-born student, my encounter with the design has raised a lot of questions regarding locality, heritage and memory. This project rethinks the academy’s design through local eyes, by taking into account aspects of material culture and local as regional memories. In that manner, the new academy is imagined as a series of pavilions, each one host a part of one of the departments. The outcome is a proposed area which stimulates multidisciplinary “get togethers”. The Russian Church, which is positioned in the same lot, is imagined as the focal point of the project, respecting its beauty and prior existence in the area. Local stone, rather than glass, is used as part of the Jerusalem stone narrative and due to climatic considerations.

Invited by the RIVP (Public Housing Agency of Paris), this project in the heart of the 20th arrendisment of Paris aims to construct low cost and affordable housing. The project’s relatively simple program of 19 social housing units and a commercial grownd-floor confronts a very compact site and a set of severe Parisian construction reglementations. Based on a very straight-forward design strategy, the project maximizes the possible usable surface, while r+7 creating a reasonable diversity of apartment sizes (Studio - 25m2, T3 - 56m2, T4 - 80m2) for maximization of communal diversity on a socio-economical base. To ensure the r+6 implementation of green design approaches, a variety of thermal tactics has been taken such as outer thick isolation, large roof surface of solar v r+5 e rpanels, s l natural a p ventilation lace and illumination by orientation. 109.55 NGf

‫‪Ben Gurion Campus Competition | Beersheba, Israel‬‬ ‫‪Design Team Member, under the supervision of Senior Arch.‬‬ ‫‪Daniel Zarhy‬‬ ‫‪ZARHY Architects‬‬ ‫‪Client: Ben Gurion University‬‬ ‫‪This invited competition for the masterplan of the Northern‬‬ ‫‪Ben Gurion University Campus in Beersheba spreads upon‬‬ ‫‪a total area of 280.000m2. The design strategy of the project‬‬ ‫‪adopts the grid guidelines of the existing southern campus‬‬ ‫‪plan, and is inspired by regional climatic-architecture typol‬‬‫‪ogies such as Moroccan and Algerian ancient cities. A great‬‬ ‫‪effort was put on the creation of quality outdoor public spac‬‬‫‪es, as it is there where studential life actually takes place.‬‬

‫במבנים יודגשו הקווים האופקיים – התקרות‪ ,‬כאשר‬ ‫כל חזית תטופל בהתאם לכיוונה מבחינת עומקה ודרך‬ ‫ההצללה‪ :‬החזית הדרומית מוצלת באופן אופקי על ידי‬ ‫התקרות ונסיגה של החזית‪ ,‬בעוד החזיתות המזרחיות‬ ‫והמערביות מוגנות על ידי שוברי שמש אנכיים וכן על‬ ‫ידי הבניינים הסמוכים והצמחיה‪ .‬באופן זה חזיתות‬ ‫המבנים לא מקבלות שמש ישירה כלל ועומס החום על‬ ‫בבניינים יורד משמעותית‪ .‬בנוסף אנו מציעים להשת‪-‬‬ ‫מש באלמנטים של בניה ירוקה כגון פנלים סולריים על‬ ‫גגות המבנים וכן אלמנטים לאיסוף מים אפורים ומי‬ ‫נגר שיוכלו להשקות את הצמחיה בחללים הציבוריים‪.‬‬

32m2 (Endless) Villa | Paris, France Guiding professors: Arch. Arnaud Bical & Arch. Bruno Hubert ENSA Paris Malaquais This project comes as a reaction to the common tiny living spaces Paris has to offer its students. High market demand and a harsh economical climate have created this phenomenon, as students need to struggle with high living expenses in the city. In regard to this retail data, the project raises the equation of quality versus size, and generates a small student housing unit with villa-like qualities. The small plan footprint of 8m2 is duplicated by 4 floors to creat a 32m2 compact villa for a student. The modular, simple and compact nature of the base unit permits this model to sets itself in a variety of urban leftover spaces in Paris. The vertical proportions of this housing unit raises also the question of proportion, as they set a new beginning for a project of an â&#x20AC;&#x153;endless vertical villaâ&#x20AC;?.

Symbiosischool | Gaziantep, Turkey Done in partnership with Marcia Kubrusaly and Wenxin Nan Guiding professors: Arch. Sandra Planchez ENSA Paris Malaquais

Symbiosischool was the first prize winning entry in the International Architecture Competition ISOVER Multi Comfort House under the theme The School of Tomorrow. The project proposes to create a multi-comfort environment school in Gaziantep (a Turkish town located next to the Syrian border). The project aspires to create a symbiotic environment between values of sustainability, education and economy in a place where there is a lack of means. The school plants itself within the natural topography of the site, and reacts delicately to questions of human scale, tradition and progression related directly to local culture and architecture. By doing so, the action of threading between the built mass and the green voids generates from one hand the architectural experience of the building, and from the other the sustainable solution regarding heating, cooling, ventilation and illumination.
