THREE PIECE BALL VALVES Introduction Habonim is offering a new Class 600 cast valve, the 26 Series. Built for endurance in the most demanding applications, the 26 Series combines robust construction with Habonim’s new Hybrid seats (see pg. 4), allowing it to withstand operation at the maximum ANSI B16.34 differential pressure rating. The 26 Series is available in a variety of cast carbon steels, WCB, LCB, LC1, and in response to global market demands, it is also available in additional materials including stainless steel, nickel and exotic alloys. All of this contributes to making Habonim’s 26 Series an ideal and cost effective solution for the Oil & Gas market.

Testing
Certifications and Traceability
To confirm valve functionality, valves are 100% tested according to EN12266-1, and GOST 9544-2005 requirements. Habonim’s procedure is comprised of three stages: • Shell strength test at 1.5 times the pressure rating • Shell tightness test at 1.1 times the pressure rating • Seat tightness test at 6 bar of compressed dry air
All valves are supplied with a BS EN 10204 certificate of compliance on request. For full traceability each valve is tagged and every casting is marked with a heat number. Material test reports (MTR) will be provided upon request. For the Russian market, a special set of documents is also available, which includes: • Passport (technical datasheet, general assembly drawing, material tests report, non-destructive test report (upon client request), product reliability declaration • BS EN 10204 certificate of compliance level 3.1 • Installation operation and maintenance manual (IOM) • A special tag written in Russian
With acceptance criteria of Rate A, no leakage is allowed throughout the duration of the test. Upon client request the following non-destructive tests (NDT’s) can be performed: • Liquid penetration testing as per ASME V Art. 6 and ASTM E165 standard • Radiographic testing (RT), as per ASME V Art. 2 and ASTM E94 standard • Ultrasonic testing (UT), as per ASTM A609 standard • Visual inspection, to ASME V Art. 9

THREE PIECE BALL VALVES Hybrid Seats Habonim developed a new line of hybrid seats especially for high differential pressure applications. When a soft seated floating ball valve is held even momentarily at mid position, the upstream seat is incompletely supported; it is only partially supported by the ball and can be pushed towards the valve cavity by the force of the stream. This deformation is amplified with increased density of the media, high differential pressure and high velocity. These extreme conditions of deformation can cause the ball to grip the unsupported area of the soft seat, and to jam the valve, it may slice the seat by the port edge of the ball, or trigger stem twisting (caused by excessive torque being applied by the operator trying to close the valve). Habonim’s new line of Hybrid seats was developed especially to overcome the above problems.
The combination of a metallic housing and polymer insert offers the stiffness of a metal seat with a bubble tight Class “A” shutoff leakage rate and operating torque of a soft seat. The hybrid seats are proven in use with B16.34 Class 600 maximum differential pressure. Different hybrid seat designs were developed in response to various applications, and are designated by the metallic housing design.

The “L shape” is mainly used for fire-safe or cryogenic applications where an elastomer O-ring cannot be used. The “F shape” housing is mainly used for unidirectional valves combining a soft downstream seat and Hybrid upstream seat. The “U shape” housing allows for the use of O-ring elastomers for general purpose applications.

26 SERIES Double Block and Bleed 26 Series In a standard two way floating ball valve tight shut-off is achieved by the downstream seat. The line pressure provides the necessary force by pressing the ball into the downstream seat. The ball’s movement toward the downstream seat this movement relieves the seating force between the ball and upstream seat, and lets the upstream seat leak until the pressure between the upstream line and the cavity around the ball is equalized. A Double Block & Bleed valve arrangement consists of two seats working independently. Each seat must seal at its upstream side, keeping the valve cavity unpressurized, thus allowing two different media to separate by one valve. The bodies for block and bleed service are specially machined to incorporate a bottom drain with a bleed valve attached. Media trapped in the body cavity can be released through this bleed valve. A pressure gauge can be connected to the bleed valve; alternatively, it can be connected to a flare. If the seat leaks, the medium can be sensed by the pressure gauge or it can be routed to the flare. In order to achieve a seal at the upstream side, Habonim developed a special Hybrid seat. The seat design combines the rigidity of a metal housing and the sealing ability (EN12266-1, Rate A) of a soft plastic material. Blocking flow from crossing the back of the hybrid seat is achievable by an O-ring (applicable with the ‘U’ shaped Hybrid design) or Graphite\PTFE (applicable with the ‘L’ shaped Hybrid design) With a ‘Piston-movement-affect’ the Hybrid seat is pressed against the ball sphere, achieving positive isolation. The metal housing design includes a fire lip which seals ‘metal-to-metal’ against the ball sphere; this occurs when the ball is pressed by the line pressure against a ‘fire-lip’ when the plastic insert has melted away during a burn. The 26 Series, with its Double Block and Bleed arrangement, can be used only for applications in the range of the temperature and corrosion for the seats and seal materials used in their construction.
