Our Values Our brand values are what we hold dear as a school, the core beliefs that we stand for. They should drive all decisions and actions.

Ambition

We set our sights high in terms of what we want to achieve as individuals and as a community, in and outside the classroom, aspiring to achieve our full potential in whatever we put our minds to.

Curiosity

In a diverse world, we believe that growth comes from not standing still. We are driven by an unending desire to learn and improve, not standing still and having an open and enquiring mind to anything we face.

Courage

We believe in the courage to face challenge, embrace opportunity and step out of our comfort zones to grow and become our best selves, whilst also having courage in our conviction, remaining true to our moral compass and what we believe is the right thing to do.

Community

Since we were founded, we have had an inherent responsibility to our diverse internal and wider community and continue to dedicate ourselves to nurturing it and supporting each other to be our best selves.

Lunch Your child will have lunch with the other Prep School pupils in the Senior School dining room called The Bates. There is a wide selection of hot food, including vegetarian options, as well as sandwiches and baguettes. Teachers will be there to help your child choose lunch if necessary. They will also show your child where to find cutlery and where to sit. When they have finished their lunch, they will be shown to the tray emptying area and how to get back to the Prep School playground. The lunch menus are on our website and Parent Portal so that you can discuss choices with your child. Your child’s teacher will also display the menu in the classroom. If your child would like to bring a packed lunch from home, they can still eat with their friends in the dining room.

PE and Games We see PE lessons as a way to foster a lifelong love of sport. There is the opportunity for your child to play in local and national tournaments in a variety of sports across the age groups. We also host sports festivals and tournaments. Developing character is a key aspect of our sports provision. Our sports values: Courage, Creativity, Leadership, Respect and Teamwork underpin everything we do. Being selected to play in a team requires commitment and must take priority even at weekends or after school. Your child will have two periods of games per week: one for swimming and one for PE. A variety of sports fixtures take place during term time. We send a fixture card with all the dates and events to parents at the beginning of each term. All pupils will represent the school in fixtures on a regular basis. The priority sports are rugby (Autumn Term), football (Spring Term) and cricket (Summer Term).

Going Home Your child will go home in one of three ways: By car from the astroturf at 4pm On the school coach at 4.15pm From After School Care We know that travelling by coach might be a new experience for some of our pupils. We are here to help and make it as easy as possible. For the first couple of weeks, a member of staff will walk pupils taking the coach to the coach park to make sure they get on the right coach. After the first week, your child should start to recognise their coach bay. When your child feels ready to, they can walk down with the rest of the Prep School. There are always members of staff to help.

Homework Diary On your child’s first day, they will be given a small yellow book which your child will need to keep in their blazer pocket. This book is for writing in any messages that their teacher gives them, as well as homework tasks and their going home arrangements. Parents or guardians can also write messages for teachers on the special notes pages of the book. Parents and guardians must sign the homework book every day and teachers will then check it at school.

Homework Your child will not be given homework for the first couple of weeks. There is a lot of new information to take in so when your child’s teachers feel they are ready, your child will be given homework. There will also be reading to practise and spellings to learn. When your child does their homework, please sign it and write how long it took them.

Finding your way around You might have already been around the Prep School during our Open Day or one of our Open Mornings. Your child may have explored the school with their Year 6 buddy so may recognise some of it on their first day.

Just remember, there will be lots of other new pupils and plenty of people to help your child. Most of their time will be spent in the Prep building. Most of their lessons will take place in their own classroom. When theydo need to go to another part of the school, for swimming or music for example, a teacher will show them where to go.
