Pre-Prep and Prep School edition Friday 1 July 2022 Summer Term

Acting Head of Prep School’s Message Mr G Thomas It has been another full throttle Habs Prep and Pre-Prep week and we would not have it any other way. It has been wonderful, today, to watch the Pre-Prep pupils take part in their Summer Concert in what was a joyous occasion. Similarly, despite the weather seeking to disrupt proceedings, it was fantastic to observe over two hundred Prep boys take part in Prep Sports Day on Wednesday. As I looked out across the field late in the afternoon, it was such a pleasure to see every single pupil actively involved in a competitive yet fun atmosphere that really seeks to instil in our pupils a love of sport that will last a lifetime. It would be remiss of me, however, not to highlight the outstanding work of my colleagues to continue to facilitate such opportunities for the boys. This was evident, too, during the outstanding Year 6 performance of Bugsy Malone in which the pupils combined razor sharp precision and clarity with a very relaxed sense of fun. The pupils, as always, did us proud, however, my pride also extended to the entirety of the school community. The atmosphere in the Prep Hall on Tuesday evening was one of the most special that I have encountered during my eight years at the school as the teachers, parents and support staff were in complete partnership, with the pupils at the heart. Supported by amazing music and a great set, observing pupils project their voice, improvise, and express themselves freely in front of an audience, perfectly epitomised the journey of a Prep School pupil that is all about the development of character. As Bugsy himself said, ‘It’s hard to be creative and to see your potential when you’ve not even got the foundations to be able to express yourself.’ Watching those Year 6 pupils on Tuesday evening, I truly believe that every one of them has the foundation that will enable them to thrive in the future. Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Drama/Music Bugsy Malone performance

On Tuesday 28 June, our wonderful Year Six pupils blew us all away with their outstanding performances of ‘Bugsy Malone’. Since March, the pupils have been working away tirelessly - running lines, rehearsing scenes, perfecting choreography, and learning lyrics. As any teacher will testify, putting on a production is a tremendous amount of work and requires almost superhuman levels of patience, resilience, and determination on the part of pupils and staff – as well as raw talent, which Year Six have in abundance! It is difficult to put into words the pride that we felt as we watched the boys shine and dazzle on stage. It was certainly one of the proudest moments of my career to date, and our teachers will treasure the memories of it forever. Each and every member of Year Six and the incredible team that helped to make the show possible should feel tremendously proud.

Year 1 trip to Knebworth House The pupils had a thoroughly enjoyable day at Knebworth House and Gardens. In the morning they were led around the Gardens by one of Knebworth’s experienced guides. They explored shape, colour, nature and numeracy. They were fortunate to find out about prehistoric life with a visit to the Dinosaur Trail. In the afternoon the pupils had lots of fun exploring the fort and adventure slides. This was a perfect way to end the school year!

Year 2 Parents Afternoon Year 2 parents spent an enjoyable afternoon with their children at the Pre-Prep School. The pupils were extremely excited to show their parents their work and show them around the school. There was a wonderful atmosphere as the pupils and their parents relaxed over a cup of tea and slice of cake. It was a pleasure to welcome everyone to the Pre-Prep and spend the afternoon together.

Pre-Prep Leafy Learners Year 1 and 2 celebrated their last day in the glade with a fabulous joint Leafy Learners lesson. All the Pre-Prep staff were on hand to support them in their forest learning. There was: hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting with s’more making, clay, tents, leaf painting, bug hunting, and forest crown making. We added another verse to our special Leafy Learners song and enjoyed a picnic in the outdoors.
