Habs Weekly Friday 16 September 2022 Autumn Term Pre-Prep and Prep School edition

We will forever be indebted to Her Majesty for her service to this country and to her people. Over seven decades, she was an outstanding example to us all, the embodiment of public service and duty.

We are currently respecting the period of National Mourning and will continue to do so until the end of the day of the State Funeral. We are duly following guidance from ISC, HMC, GSA and the government during this period of National Mourning.

During this period, our communications - including such newsletters and reminders - will be in black, white and grey.

It is with great sadness and respect that our schools offer our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family upon the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

I hope you have all had a lovely week, it has been great to have had the opportunity to meet so many of you over the last few days, either at drop off or pick up or the Reception and Year 1 Coffee and Chat this morning. If I have not yet had the chance to meet you, I look forward to doing so in the next few weeks.

such curiosity and even courage being exhibited, as they explored the poem and their thoughts through questioning and with some students stepping out of their comfort zones to speak up and put forward their ideas.

I was also fortunate to join some Year 3 pupils as they too exercised their curiosity by trying out a multitude of instruments. Cellos, violas, French-horns, bassoons, trumpets and more were on offer. The atmosphere was electric as some pupils were ambitious with their desire to take on new challenges. We truly do have some magnificent musicians-in-themaking at the Prep.

Of course, the week has been tinged with sadness after the passing of Her

HeadUmplebyof Prep School’s Message

It has been a busy and productive first full week and I have been taking the opportunity to pop into lessons and get to know the pupils. I was thoroughly impressed by the articulate observations of one Year 6 class as they analysed and discussed the significance of imagery in a poem. They discussed what the poet was trying to portray and how it made them feel. It was fantastic to see

As a result of the state funeral on Monday 19 September, we will be closed for the bank holiday. We will be open and running as normal on Tuesday 20 September.

Majesty, The Queen. However, it has been fantastic to see the school come together as a community during such a poignant moment in our history.

The Queen was a brilliant example of what one can do for their community, having served her country and her people tirelessly for 70 years. Last Friday, we came together to reflect on the life and reign of Her Majesty, The Queen, Our thoughts and best wishes are with the Royal Family and all those whose lives she touched.

I wish you and your families a restful weekend.

Co-curricular Clubs INFORMATION

We recommend that Years 2 and 3 sign up for at least two clubs and that Years 4 to 6 sign up for at least three. It is also advised that they have plenty time to relax on the playground and that their clubs schedule doesn’t become too busy. For after school clubs your child will need to be aware of going home arrangements.

SELECTION PROCESS

Please note selection for Years 3 to 6 swimming squad will take place over the next two weeks to start week commencing Monday 3 October. If your child has been selected, they will receive an invitation letter from Miss Brandon with further details.

Y3 to 6

Those going by coach may need to use After School Care if the coach departs slightly later than the club. Those travelling home by car should be met by an adult at their club exit and walked to Pitch 5 car park. I hope the children will enjoy the clubs offered and gain from the experience and the chance to experience the wider community of the school.

Pupils have now had their co-curricular clubs assembly and sign up is open on SOCs. They have been shown how to do this and will be shown again by their Form Tutors. They will have the opportunity to sign up in Form Time and assistance can be given here if they encounter any problems.

It is a great chance for pupils to develop their decision-making skills and take responsibility for their schedule to promote leadership skills, as well as developing their ability to be independent.

After this time, please email ascf@habsboys.org.uk for Prep pupil bookings and preprepoffice@habsboys.org.uk for Pre-Prep pupil bookings.

We are aware of the recent access issues that have been persisting in recent weeks, especially for our Year 2 parents at drop-off time. The path that runs parallel to the North Drive has now reopened and we hope this will make things easier. We thank you for your patience as we try to find a more efficient way for the Year 2 pupils to get to school safely.
