Habs Weekly
Pre-Prep and Prep School edition Friday 6 May 2022 Summer Term
Acting Head of Prep School’s Message Mr G Thomas It has been another fantastic week at the Prep and Pre-Prep. I have been truly delighted with the way in which the pupils have continued to throw themselves into all aspects of school life and really make the most of the many opportunities they are afforded. I have loved hearing about the successes of the Year 2 and Year 3 History trips today and how it has helped inspire our pupils to expand their cultural awareness. Notable highlights this week have also included the outstanding performances of pupils in the inter school swimming gala, in addition to the 12 pupils, from Years 3 to 6, who worked collaboratively to make the national finals of the general knowledge quiz. It is this breadth of opportunity that is such a highlight of the Habs experience. I have been particularly impressed with the confidence, courage and maturity on display at the Prep this week. Year 1 pupils were incredibly reflective about their English writing during a lesson I popped in on, and during our Prep assembly this morning, the pupils spoke with such poise and sensitivity about the importance of Ramadan and Eid. Their peers listened with great intent and understanding that emphasised their appreciation of its importance to our own school community. We were also pleased to host members of the Haberdashers’ company as part of deputation day. As our guests gathered in the Prep Hall, they were greeted by a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils who, I was told, blew them away with their ability to introduce themselves unprompted, shake hands, make eye contact and initiate a discussion with great confidence. I was so proud of the character the pupils displayed and the way in which they spoke with great sincerity, humility and honesty about how much they enjoy their school experience. It is the pupils’ ability to consistently embody and uphold our shared values that I have treasured the most this week. I wish you and your families a wonderful weekend.

Art
SATIPS Art Exhibition 2022 For the first time, eight pupils took part in Satips Art Exhibition hosted at The Royal Masonic School. It was a wonderful, vibrant exhibition which displayed a huge variety of works from drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and textiles. A total of 18 schools took part from all over the United Kingdom, next year the exhibition hopes to double in number, after the recovery from Covid. The exhibition showcased work from Reception to Year 8 paintings. The pupils were incredibly proud to see their work in a professional setting surrounded by other amazing pieces of artwork, giving them inspiration for further works.
Art
Year 6 visit National Gallery Year 6 visited the National Gallery in London. The pupils were given a very informative talk on Mythological paintings, linking up with their recent ‘Dragon Eyes’ pictures completed in the classroom; inspired by the painting ‘George & the Dragon’ by Uccello. After lunch, the pupils spent a few hours looking at different genres of painting from Renaissance to Impressionism. Having completed detailed worksheet, they also had the opportunity to sketch some of the Impressionist painting.

They were required to work in teams of four to answer a range of questions, varying from working out how many of Snow White’s dwarves have beards to identifying portraits of people such as Kaiser Wilhelm II. After several rounds of great quizzing, Team 2; Sanat (3NG), Felix (4HP), Raghav (5EF) and Kian (6RP) finished in 5th place whilst Team 1; Hassan (3MJ), Drishaan (4BB), Aarav (5SB), Ishan (6RP) and Team 3; Faris (3MJ), Riyan (4BB), Aadi (5EF) and Kanishk (6MN) finished in joint 8th place. St George’s Day fundraising We have raised £645.00 for Save the Children! We would like to thank all the staff and parents for their contribution on Friday 29 April. Our biggest thanks go to all the Prep pupils who participated with enthusiasm and excitement. We are all so impressed by the generosity, kindness and sense of community that was on show during the day. Thank you to all those in George’s House who brought in cakes and doughnuts. They really outdid themselves. The Prep would also like to thank Roger Marsden from Save the Children who inspired the pupils at assembly.
Year 2 Leafy Learners Year 2 have enjoyed being back in the glade for their ‘Leafy Learning’ lesson. We planted potatoes and peas, got creative giving the tress clay faces and cooked nettle tea on the fire.
Year 2 trip to St Paul’s Cathedral Year 2 had an exciting trip to St Paul’s Cathedral to enhance their cross-curricular topic on the Great Fire of London. They enjoyed the workshop and shared all the facts they had learnt. We wandered around St Paul’s and appreciated the beauty of the dome and the cathedral. A fun day was had by all.
